I have a 2021 R model and love it. It's a autoclave period. It's a great machine if you drive it like a fun machine, it's not a race car or has a high performance engine in it, it was made for for enjoying your ride and to get the wow effect from people who see it. I enjoy mine and no it's not perfect, but you can pick apart and machine. Just jump In, take off, and enjoy.
In some states (California - for instance) you do have to have a motorcycle endorsement to drive this thing. You also have to wear a helmet while driving it in those states. That would completely ruin the idea and fun.
darrin goodbrand the only difference between the 20K and the more expensive models is in the graphics, the sound system, windshield, wheel size and Nav system. As far as the mechanics go, they are all the same with the exception that the SLR gives you a longer cold air intake. The 20k model comes with smaller wheels and no radio/back up camera and no windshield. I have the LE model and the extras include (Sound System, backup Camera, windshield, graphics, bigger wheels) and to me the extras were well worth it!! I have too much fun in my Slingshot!!!
yall need to look up information cause some states list it as a motorcycle other states list it as a car. If the Slingshot is classified as a motorcycle in your state the operator of a Slingshot is required to have a motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement. Currently MT, NE, WI, MS, FL, NY, ME, AND MA require motorcycle endorsement to drive a slingshot.
Personally they look more like a car so you should just need a DL and not a special endorsement to drive them. Getting rid of the motorcycle endorsement would also allow people to drive them without a helmet in states with helmet laws, which is just silly with this type of vehicle.
Some people are more safety conscious than others. Also, when the Slingshot originally debuted it was registered as a motorcycle which means in states with helmet laws it was mandatory to wear one. Most states now recognize the "Auto Cycle" category so it may not be required. However, the windshield is more of a wind deflector and you can still catch rocks and bugs in your face. So, many people still opt to wear a helmet.

blueknight well it would be nice to see that it's able to do it. I know a guy that was interested in a Can am spider a few years ago and he passed on it because you are unable to turn the traction control off on them. It's not capable of doing a descent donut in the snow much less dry pavement. Some people enjoy getting a little sideways once in awhile, or being able to do a burn out at the dragstrip before a run. Why do most muscle car reviews show them burning the rear tires some of them come right from the factory with line lock that disengages the rear brakes for the purpose of burnouts. ? Or some sport bike reviews riding wheelies? It's because most people that buy them will be doing it themselves and they like to see it in action.

Yes. As are the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, which (non-turbo) had the same engine. They don't make them any more, but they're still on the road.

Yes, and top speed suppose to be 130, got mine up to 95 , but felt like i was in a Rocket so i chickened out and took my foot off the Pedal. :)
