Thanks for the video Ryan ! I miss it when we can't visit you on Saturdays. I had always thought that a shock collar seemed cruel but have changed my view. My daughter's dog was prone to running off. A friend didn't like that the dog had to be kept in a fenced kennel, on a leash or a chain when he was outside. Her friend got the dog a shock collar with instructions about how to train him with it. The dog quickly learned that when the collar was on he would enjoy a level of freedom he had barely known. He would get positively thrilled to see the collar come out. To him it meant an opportunity to roam the area and check out everything with his nose. He learned that after being called if he didn't come back there'd be a beep from the collar and then a buzz & if he still didn't return he was going to get a shock. It only took a few jolts to train him. Before long his tendency to run off was gone. His life has become immeasurably better because of the shock collar. Best wishes on your full recovery from back pain buddy ! 89K
Those mountain dogs are smarter than you think. Had someone not stopped him he would have come back home. They follow their own scent back which can last for a day easily but I totally understand your concern. Another great video for a Saturday morning. Thanks.
We have an underground fence that is about 20 years old. We just got a new puppy and I have put the flags back up to train him. He has to know where the boundaries are. Kiper is doing great.....and so are you Ryan. Nice job. Hope your back is better. Much love and support. ❤️🙏❤️
I am so glad to see you posting today Ryan! Praying for you and your back. So good to see you, you have no idea - but your health before everything. Just take it easy and thank you for all of the crazy, wonderful content you so regularly provide. I can't imagine how you do it when your healthy!
RYAN I know it is tough with being single with a Pup there !!! But he will keep You warm at times & also alittle happier !!! Bringing bright times into your life then !!!
Glad to see you posting!! Wishing you the best with your back. As I told you before, I’ve gone through it myself with 4 back surgeries 30 years ago and great results. Before those surgeries was 8 or 9 years of the shots and occasional physical therapy. Just don’t do anything dumb, OK?
Military service in the 1970’s- 4 ruptured or herniated discs. Surgically repaired 1989, 90, 91 & in 93, removal of problematic scar tissue. In 2022 I had bone spurs from the previous repairs pressing on my spinal cord removed.
at 15:56 I think it's very simple, a deck = simple just a deck, and a portch = a deck with a roof over it. Right ?? what you could also use is electric shock tape or shock wire tape 40mm, you can do two things with this at the same time, a visual fence and a shock wire tape fence with a solar electric shock wire device. then you no longer have to worry about batteries in the collar that can run out. but of course a lot of installation costs
Welcome back Ryan! One of my favorite parts of my week. Glad you got the Dogtra collar. It works amazing and I love it for all the reasons you highlight. We have a remote cabin in an island in the Pacific Northwest Canada and used to lose our dog before we got a Dogtra. Love your videos. Glad you won’t lose Kyper again!!
What a smart pup. I so badly want to get one (don't care the breed as long as it's big and not a drool machine) but I'm afraid I wouldn't have enough time to properly train it. Makes watching kypers progression so much fun
I’ve had back issues for many years and have tried numerous different things for relief including shots and surgery. I would have to say that the number one thing that has helped the most all these years are traction and inversion. Both allow the spine to decompress, discs being able to fill with blood and relax, and allowing the nerves relief from constant pressure. A tens unit helps as well. Spinal injuries are life long, you just have to find things that allow you the most relief even if it’s for a short period of time so you’re able to complete your next task.
I got the Fi GPS collar for my 2 Jack Russell's and they work fantastic, no limit in range uses both LTE cell signal or GPS satellite. Much cheaper and lasts for about a month per charge.
I have a Gordon Setter that I use for bird hunting. I use the Garmin 550 pro plus. Just remember to keep working on vocal cues. That way if the e collar goes down he will still listen to you. I have been using the Delmar Smith method. It is similar to what you talked about. Only difference that I saw was the treats. Jack doesn’t get the treats but still the same results.
You can check Marco polo radio tracker. I have the same no service problem in the NC mountains. Those GPS collars battery life problem is unacceptably annoying for me. Radio locator works for two miles distance and it is super small and it works for months when idle and a few weeks in monitoring (alarm when far) mode and few days in tracking mode (shows the direction to the signal). Not a gps with a dot on a map, but it will show you the direction and you can guess the distance based on the signal level.
String a bit of clothesline wire between two trees a good distance apart and clip your leash to it with a carabiner. He’ll have a decent run and you only have to check now and then that he’s not tangled around another tree. Just an idea.
Those collars are great. Try putting the head rest in backward, the shape of it is different, worked for me. I have a plate in my neck from surgery and it allowed me to straighten my neck up
My neighbor has a black lab and a wired e-fence, the dog really reacts to getting zapped, like he's getting tazered, he'll actually fall over, but if there's something on the other side of that line, like kids he wants to play with, he'll run at the line as fast as he can so when he gets zapped he goes tumbling over the line and past the range of the fence. It's hilarious to watch and I don't know how he figured that out.
Glad to see you were reunited, phew. It’s a stage in your dog’s development. Ours have been testy at times especially when they scent pheasant or deer. Both are common here in England. We have English pointer dogs that are generally docile but have the legs and stamina of a giraffe 😁. I m sure that he’ll settle down eventually…. Treats and toys are a good idea and whistle. Food oriented is good when they are hungry. I wish you both well , he’s young and be patient, gps is helpful for you to relax slightly. TTFN
We trained our youngest lab with an e collar. Beep to "come" was easy to learn but now he comes to all beeps. When a GoPro turns off, he comes running every time!
I'm still amazed you got the dog back from a stranger. And how? How in the world did that happen being in the woods? Never-the-mind. I'm so glad you got him back.
Regarding your back. I have bulging discs in my lower back. My daughter is in her final weeks of becoming a physical therapist. She asked if my hamstrings were tight. I said no. So she checked herself. They were very tight. She gave me some stretch exercises to loosen them. It helped my back a lot. Who knew tight hamstrings would affect your back? Anyway, try standing and bending over with your knees locked and try to touch your toes. If you can’t get far, it might be worth stretching your hamstrings a few times a day for a few minutes. Helped me! Good luck with your back!!
E collars are great, you might need the long prongs because of his fur. Make sure he understands "NO" because the shock comes after "NO". Shock collars will save their life, traffic, skunks, it's a long leash. Enjoy the new tool.
When we got the invisible fence we took him along the perimeter which was flagged, so he got the visual along with the stimulus. Within a couple of days he would never even approach the boundaries. He never left the yard without us again.
Hopes and prayers Ryan that your back is on the mend. Would you ever consider enabling TH-cam memberships? I don't have time to do/watch Patreon but would certainly send a membership your way. 👍🏻❤️
Hello Ryan my wife and I are in Michigan on a road trip we’ll be in the UP by Thursday. If there are any cool places you’re willing to share would be awesome. Love your channel!
We’ve had an Invisible Fence for 15 years here in Ohio. I’ve had a range of dogs that have worn the collars from small to big. One thing to make sure you do is make the collar tight. The prongs have to be in contact with the skin. It may seem cruel, but it absolutely is not. And, you may have to get longer prongs to ensure you’re getting contact with the skin.
Hey Ryan... check out the new Ecoflow Delta 3 plus power station... I've been researching for a while. It's on pre order now, has all the features you'll want. I think it could change your game... and mine. I will start camping on the land in about a month from now when the rains stop. Pretty exciting... just the back issues... but I'm game.
You should get him a water bucket instead of that dish. They have a nice one at tractor supply called fortiflex 8qt. It's what I use for my dogs, it has a nice handle too.
Have you seen the halo collar? You can map out where he can go. It’s $599. It’s sweet! It uses your phone. He gets the zoomies! Did you got a book with yours, it is interesting. We did ever other one gets treat! Then every 3rd an so on. We had a screened in porch and then a porch! One dog drinks a 1/2 gallon at least it’s crazy. He already has it so your n et thing is with no leash. Some dogs learn fast! He might need to just figure it out. Good luck!
It looks like the area he mapped off is 1-2 acres in size. The permaculture people say that 90% of your activity will be on one acre. It’s interesting that seems to be true for ringworm over several years.
I didn't want my dog to bite other peoples fingers so I thought her to be responsible for avoiding fingers. That way I don't have to worry about when kids or anyone else for that matter want to give her treats. It's easy to do.
I tested a shock collar on myself for our barking dog, just to see how bad it might be ..... "don't do that"..... I had two red ZAP marks on my neck for a week. The barking dog kept running the battery down, he didn't seem to mind it that much.
Personally, I'd probably still keep an airtag on him full time. So if the gps collar is off for charging, he still has some kind of tracking. Even if it's not super accurate. If he were missing for a few days, he'd probably eventually end up near people or a passing car that could ping you his general location. That and an engraved tag with your phone/address info on him full time.
Looking at your property, you offed. Alot of trees. Replace them with strong shade trees. Put apple and peach to draw deer in and eat.theres a process living in the wild. BEST OF LUCK. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
When he ran off, do you suppose he was chasing a deer? Has he ever seen deer when you were there and see what he would do? for him to run off that far seems a little weird.
Your seat headrest is tilted forward on purpose because it puts your head in a safer position when a crash happens. Don't blame you for wanting to change it though.

Magician….I mean Kylper…training you to spend lots of money to find ways he can get a lot of his favorite treats!😎👍

Thank you... I forward to Saturday mornings with you... Just like when my kids were little watching cartoons...
Good to see you and Kyper continuing your adventure. Thanks for the product review and training tips. Be well.
He's such a cute dog. And so smart.
When is Tito going to finish his cabin!?!? He’s only been talking about it for 4yrs! Tito, let’s go brother!!!
Those mountain dogs are smarter than you think. Had someone not stopped him he would have come back home. They follow their own scent back which can last for a day easily but I totally understand your concern. Another great video for a Saturday morning. Thanks.
Really amazing to see how big he's got, I took summer off watching the worm..so now I got all kinds binge watching to catch up!!
Love the headrest straightener 6000 mate

Glad your back, I had steroid injections years ago , worked great for me, hopefully you will have the same results ❤

SUPER SMART PUP, GREAT VID, uk
Thanks Ryan for all your efforts. I'm glad you got the gps collar, It is too much to worry about Kuiper getting lost or injured. I can relate
I think you have good skills in dogtraining, and i think your dog is soo adorable. Very good job from both of you.
What a smart pup. I so badly want to get one (don't care the breed as long as it's big and not a drool machine) but I'm afraid I wouldn't have enough time to properly train it. Makes watching kypers progression so much fun
Kuiper is so dang smart and learns very fast! It shows how much you care. Keep on keeping on. Heal with gusto!
so glad to see you. and an update on how you are feeling. we older folks worry about you when we don't hear from you.
Keeping him safe …. Warms my heart ❤
Cipper is a very smart dog. Nice training session.❤

Hi Ryan, ur dog is extremely smart, he learns, so fast!!
Your dog is gorgeous. I want him to have a happy life with you out there. In the michigan peninsula, in a long life
Excellent Video Ryan ! 👍👍
Great job with the training! Fun to watch, and gives you a break from back straining! Perfect!

I turned my headrest around when I got the car 7 years ago. Never had an issue from cops when pulled over
Agreed it works well and no one noticed including my other half! Worse than the cops.
Came here to say he could do this
Same, so much more comfortable!
I had to get a new dog a month after you got your dog.
Mornin 🖐😎👍

Awesome man
Hello Ryan 👍💖💕🥰❤️🇺🇸🙏
I didn't want my dog to bite other peoples fingers so I thought her to be responsible for avoiding fingers. That way I don't have to worry about when kids or anyone else for that matter want to give her treats. It's easy to do.
He’s probably not a wanderer. He’s probably a chaser. And deer are probably the chase. The invisible fence is the solution. Best wishes!
I track my wife with that same collar; she gets zapped if she comes within 25 feet of me.
Love it 😂
Hay Ryan might of missed it but did you say when your starting on your kitchen 👍
I tested a shock collar on myself for our barking dog, just to see how bad it might be ..... "don't do that"..... I had two red ZAP marks on my neck for a week. The barking dog kept running the battery down, he didn't seem to mind it that much.
you can usually just turn the headrest around 180... that's what everyone does when you need to wear a helmet in your car (motorkhana/drags etc.)
Just so you know the Stim at a reasonable level is much less aversive than the vibrate... Counter intuitive, but you will see it.
As a nickname something maybe like R2D2. My dog is Bongo I sometimes call him His Bongness like he’s royalty….
Lol I use to make those stinkin headrests
Call him Flash!!! 😂
Most porches have a roof on the, decks don’t
Get his 🏈🏈removed as well 😁
🎉So happy to see my Saturday morning fix is back.
Ryan, you’re so clever. Just take good care of your back. It’s the only one you’ll get!
Did you try feeding Kyper strawberries? It's safe for dogs.
Where did you get the training collar..I need one.
You should go to a Naturopathic doctor or a Functional Medicine doctor to see if you have vitamin or mineral deficiencies. You are probably deficient in the B vitamins. Especially B-1 which is called Thiamine. Vitamin B-1 coats all of your nerves in a protective coating and it has a major affect on how well your nervous system works. It is also necessary for about 230 other functions within the body. Vitamin B-1 is water soluble. That means that we don’t store it in our body. You need a daily supplement.
Pourch has a roof deck has no roof
Hi. I love your videos and especially your new dog so I hate to be someone who might come across as negative - especially with a name like mine 🙄. But I just wanted to ask if you were aware of something called torsion in a dog? It happens when you exercise a dog directly after it’s eaten. It’s most prevalent in deep chested large dogs like Piper and it can be fatal. It’s also known as gastric bloat. In your video you said that Piper wasn’t as motivated to train with treats as she had just eaten and we see her running around. I have two Rhodesian ridgebacks and they are put into their pen to rest for two hours after each meal. A friend of mine lost her mountain dog after another friend fed it then went for a run with it not knowing the dangers.
Hope I’m not overstepping here so please forgive the assumption that didn’t know. It may well be that Piper had trained after a nap.
All the best from Portugal 😊
