I’ve been watching a ton of videos because I want to tackle this job myself. This video made me feel confident I can do it! Great job explaining everything! I’m ready for my parts to be delivered so I can get to work!
18:00 If i could give my younger self any advice on setting up a pattern it would be this. It’s very simple. All you do is center your drive side “contact patch” root to crown (bottom to top) by adjusting pinion depth. If the patch is flat on one side that means it’s off the edge of the tooth face and should be brought back to the center. And center the pattern heel to toe (left to right) with backlash. Nothing else matters.
I like the grease behind the race. It makes me paranoid. I'll put my mirror on a stick up in there to make sure she been sent home. That bent needle on the dial indicator let's me know she's seen some stuff and has been a real trooper. Haha
F more specific, this is exactly what I needed to see after 2 days of pulling that carrier in and out and swapping shims back and forth and dial indicators and and inch pound beam wrenches… My pattern is just about how you said, not too high, not too low and a nice even mark, backlash is at 8, my only concern is that I over-crushed the sleeve to about 30 in/lbs but I’m thinking about leaving it because I’m sick of taking it apart, that reading was with the seal on too so maybe it gave it a little extra drag, at least that’s what I’m telling myself so that I can feel a little better about it, oh, so it’s an 8.5 in a Squarebody, the spiders went and trashed some shit up so I pulled it all out and went to 3:73’s instead of the 3:08s, first time setting gears and all the videos stressed me out with all the overkill “You can get a bad reading if the wind is blowing from the north”, “If you’re not sure about your contact contact pattern take a picture and send it to NASA..”. This video is just what I needed to see, thanks bro
Hello Just Dex It. I've got a Ford Ranger with a differential 4.10, the ring gear has 41 grooves and the pinion ten, the question is if this same ring gear can work smoothly with a eleven grooves pinion?
I'm new to the channel and trying to catch up on your videos but I have to say your 1 of the best here thanks for sharing your knowledge and just doing it keep it up 👍👍
My press looks exactly like you're with a lil more rust because it also lives outside. Anyone knocking it doesn't know how that press will do just about anything you need it to😂
You do realize that pinion you just stuck in with the crush sleeve is supposed to be set at 20 inch pounds of swing right not just oh this feels good. Setting up the pattern the drive side and the coast side should be center of the tooth. At least you got lucky on that. Backlash is not for oil clearance. It’s to make sure the gear is riding deep enough with the pinion if you’re a shop invest in some tools
Some people say yes and some say no??? It seems like that fucker would be on there so tight that it wouldn't matter either way? I'm doing a 4.88 in a 90 2.5 with 31s in about two weeks.... It definitely isn't a hard job. So far it seems like ordering the parts and gathering materials is the hardest part.
Where are located, are you interested in buying a 94 XJ 2wd 2 door 2.5 4 cylinder with tow package and new 2357515 AT tires clean title runs and drives... 246k miles
Bro, you have no business working on anybody’s vehicle. I’ve never seen such a hacked job in my life. for those of us that actually know how to build a rear end this was painful to watch.
I'm 2 hours away. I've turned every other bolt on the jeep, however I do not trust my abilities to install gears. Where do I find out what you charge and schedule something with you?

Nice video, learned more from this than any video on gear swaps
Glad it was helpful! One of my first ever videos

You aught to sell some merch. I know I'd buy some. Big fan of what y'all do
We are working on it, not here to make millions just here to help and entertain..!
If I lived there I'd be one of your favorite customers 😅😂
Hey I like your name lol. Can't live without shenanigans
Hone out the pinion bearing and by an extra. You can slip fit it for trial and error before using the real one.

Why every video I watched . They say don’t great up your bearings when assembling. Do they go in dry or grease up like this guy did? 😮

I use gear oil.
Hi, what don't understand is you fellas own shops installing gears and races were in world is the proper bearing race flat tool installer disc Omg 😢
There's a special place in hell for someone who uses a hammer and punch to install bearing races!😳
😂. May not be best practice but if it was causing failures I’m sure he’d stop.
