It took me several years before I was brave enough to try durian fruit, heard so many negative comments on what it tasted like, I went to a fruit farm with a Thai family friends of mine and was talked into trying it😱 LOVED IT ! and I also did not find it to be that smelly 😜 🙏🏽
Only those who cant Afford it say it taste bad. Durian in some countries are like Lobsters.

Only eat new durian, it you try over ripped one, it will be really smelly and not really good to eat, usually people will ferment it with salt and chillies to make "tempoyak" (malay.languaga) here..
You also can make durian sambal with it..
In Thailand most Thais prefer it not too ripen so smell is not too strong.

There are over 700 varieties of durians in Thailand. The best one can't be said based on personal preference. But if you ask which species is the most popular to grow, it must be said that Mon Thong, Kan Yao, Musang King and many others.
My first foray into trying this was via Durian flavoured ice cream and into the fruit itself. It reminds me of Jackfruit, a similar-looking fruit found across west coast India.

What is the difference between Jack fruit and durian is it same ?
Very different between durian and Jackfruit are Jackfruit size is bigger and some Jackfruit are there over 100 seeds inside but durian about 10 seeds and Jackfruit's fruit meat is harder and crispy than durian and taste of durian too sweet over Jackfruit and Jackfruit's peel easy to open it's but durian harder,,,

The durian here are abnormally big. The plant could be injected with enhancer drug. Natural durian fruits in Malaysia and Vietnam were at least half this size.
Just some variant of Durian is Big. And its normal without any fertilizer.

can poor people in Thailand just afford this? In Philippines most people say this fruit smell bad. Because Filipinos have no money to buy this fruit.
It only 100-140B/kg nd if you know the places you can find its about 80-90B/kg.xd
It´s not that expensive, of course everyone can afford them.
Sure bro, the poor preple in the Khlong Toei slum can buy durian every week, even if they are poor, they can buy it. Durian costs only 2.5kg per 10$, poor people in Thailand can buy durians at this price twice a week. In Thailand food and fruit are so cheap.
