Is Alpe d'Huez good for beginners?

  • I love teaching advanced skiers and boarders, and taking groups on adventures off-piste. Alpe d'Huez has soooo many great routes for the god rides to enjoy, but it's also one of the best resorts in the world for beginners and improves!
In this short Ride-Along I take you down one of our classic fun routes, Chez Roger. Purposely made tunnels and coaching areas are scattered along the way, as well as some plastic sheep and a large Shepard to keep things fun for the kids!
Other routes to look out for in Alpe d'Huez are Marcel's Farm, and Les Bucherons.

Ahhh fabulous, thank you! We have, in our time, skied reds and blacks. Now we're 71 and 78 we have to confine ourselves to the easy stuff. We've visited Alpe d'Huez years ago and loved it, skied most of it. We've just booked again because of the large number of greens and the ski convenience. This video has made us feel confident that we'll have a great holiday, thank you!

@@Cookiesports As I'm now retired - last Christmas, and am a free agent, I'll also be trying skiing again next season as a mature beginner - skied in Scotland three times over long weekends with the Warrington Ski Club, but the last time was 35 years ago - Nevis range.
The Ski Club of GB/UK has something called 'Peak Experience' specifically for people 55+ who are going into skiing. No idea if Alpe d'Huez is one of the resorts they use, as the broacher/catalogue plan for next season doesn't come out till July.

Hey! First of all, thank you very much for this video! With this video you saved our ski holidays last week!
As a beginner, we booked our trip to Les Deux Alpes because of the hype about the number of green runs, but my wife was afraid to run them as they were to much steeper and had no side protection! We only learned about Alpe d'Huez on our last day through your/this video and made us visit Chez Roger directly and we simply loved the place! It's super friendly for new entrants to the sport! Really wide open trails and we felt very safe the entire time! Also the convenience because the ski slopes are close to the ski lifts, so you don't waste a lot of time and energy commuting in ski boots (which is annoying)!
It was the best moment of our entire ski trip!
Definitely, the best spot for beginners like us!
    Thanks a lot!

This is a fantastic video that has convinced us to go to Huez in France. We tried Austria and Germany and the ski level (starting at blues - no green options) was just too steep for us. Thank you for helping us make this decision easy!

Looking forward to visit Alp D‘Huez in March maybe. Do you also teach snowboarding?
Do you recommend this area also for snowboarders to learn and to get some confidence on green slopes or is it far too flat on the green slopes for snowboarders in Alp D‘Huez?
    Thank you.

    • @Cookiesports
      @Cookiesports  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Alpe d’Huez is great for both skiing and boarding- definitely not too flat-l. There is such a mix of gentle slopes, getting steeper- and amazing off-piste!
I teach both skiing and boarding. My contact details are in the description- drop me a message and we’ll see what we can arrange.
      Thanks

Hi, we are thinking of coming here 25th March. 1-do u think it is too late in the season? And 2-my daughter is 10 and will not go in ski school, however she said she will have private lessons with me, do u think she will be able to pick it up ok doing 1.5hr lessons a day? She has no experience although we have booked on a dry ski slope next week to get a little feel. Thanks!

A great idea to get the early learning stuff done on the dry slopes. That's how I learned 50 years ago now (really) and it was amazing - a VERY tiny dry slope, but it gave me the basics so I was ready to get out there on day 1 and ski. An added bonus is that when you've learned on a dry slope, real snow is SO much easier. Your daughter will have an amazing time and will probably be hooked for life.
