I got 2 of those a few years ago at KWVR Haworth station shop for pretty cheap and I just called it an “alpaca carriage” so now I know it’s a cattle van.
For some reason you uploaded this video late to where I usually see the notification pop up. I get notifications from you for a new video every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday for every morning around 6AM. I'm back from school and I enjoyed this video! :)
Got to admit I’ve been impressed with Oxford rail rolling stock and also the price point. I’ve been buying a bit of their products and will continue to do so. I do hope they expand their range as well. Clint
It's interesting that you got an Oxford Rail Cattle Wagon cause I got one just a couple of weeks ago. Though I will say yours is the clean version where as mine is the weathered and dirty version, but still, it's a lovely model and I'm glad to see you review it and I look forward to running mine on my layout.
@@SamsTrains I was lucky enough to find it at the train show I went to a month ago, though they call it 'washed', so if you are looking for those ones, make sure to look out for 'washed' in the name.
Hi Sam if you are doing another servicing video I have a locomotive that one of my mums friends from work made but it is very fast I could email a video of it and if you do a servicing video I will send it over
I was actually quite close to getting myself one of these but I figured an industrial service depot, the type of layout I model, has little use for a cattle van. I have to say though, Oxford seem to be on top of their wagon game when it comes to the price/quality ratio, I wonder what their first venture into the carriage building business will be like...
The Hornby Maunsell and Bulleid diagram cattle vans are excellent models. Dimensionally, they are spot on. The Bachmann BR cattle van is, unfortunately, a scale foot - 4mm - too long, which is a real shame. The Oxford Rail LNER van isn't bad, however, the underframe is the 9ft version, most of which had gone by BR days. You could replace the underframe with a Parkside 10ft LNER underframe, but I imagine that wouldn't be a quick job! Nice review Sam. Cheers, Nick.
Glad to hear that Hornby's are good - and I'm not terribly surprised - I find many of Bachmann's products to be unscrupulous, if not in their detail, in their build quality! I appreciate your sharing this expert knowledge on the correct dimensions - I wish I knew these things! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
we agree 4as well in br days livestock had to be marshaled next to th engine. so that the crew were aware of th e state of the animals. also on tanker train a set length of low fire risk"barrier wagons before the flammable loads and crazily two brake vans were required in addition to the end smother was required next to th engineyje first coac in a train had to be non passenger stock. gwr syphons were con as well as corridor full brakes
will be ok as long as you can pop the lid to put live stock in it - metal buffers will give it a bit more weight to stop it jumping off the rails - was it plus postage 4.00 - 5 star as long as the lid pops off to add live stock
I'm sure the inside will be accesable - I've just not tried it myself! I'm pretty sure it is £4 postage yeah - though I bought mine alongside other items, so I can't be certain!! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
From my perspective, this van appears much MORE detailed than the vast majority of my Hornby freight rolling stock (about 10 or 12) that I bought from Hattons a couple years ago. To me, the underframe details along with the metal buffers is superior to the Hornby ones I have! I had to paint the buffers and weather all of the Hornby ones in order to make them look reasonably realistic. Oxford Rail absolutely gets my endorsement!
Hi cool rolling stick. I love it when it NE or LNER stuff as that's my favourite. Keep up the great vids. Do you ever go to the Hattons shop in Widnes?
Great review of great product. Yes it's cheap as chips in comparison to Hornby and Bachman. I have the weathered and the pristine one and have never had a problem with them even if they are a bit light in weight. Looking forward to your the next review.
Sam, the reason I asked to question was because I once had to help unload a carload of sheep one animal at a time in the middle of the night. The engineer’s snide remarks when I got back in the cab when I got back in the cab were far less than complimentary, to say the least. Bob Nicholson
I hope you are going to review the Oxford rail 12 ton Tank wagons when they come out. I've only ordered 1 just in case, but if you give them a decent rating I'll order a few more :) Nice review as always.
4Wow the price for British rolling stock is nothing compared to US rolling stock. Here in the US the price of rolling stock can range from $20-$100. Some covered hoppers and boxcars can range from $25-$50. Some big model train manufacturers are Athern, Bauchman, Life Like. Our most famous manufacturer is Lionel Trains. Most of my models I ordered off Walthers. The most expensive rolling stock offered is the Schanabels. They can range from $70 to $215 or more. I use HO scale. I imagine the prices vary depending on the scale.
Yeah that's very true - but some of our rolling stock is that expensive too, Heljan made some tankers that cost like £80!!! :O Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I think the MD of Oxford Rail, now the MD of Hornby is getting his influence into the market.........and demonstrating the true worth of their products. (There’s lots of room to put a bit of extra weight in there - and even a “stay alive” circuit for DCC?!). I’d buy a few - especially if there’s a late version. Great review, thank you Sam.
Yeah absolutely - the empty space could be very handy if you wanted to put the work in! I did see some non LNER branded versions, so there may well be some late versions! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
haha yeah - I've noticed that too - it's not a dreadfully heavy tender, and so the pressure from the pickups is sometimes enough to stop the wheels! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Common Sam, you've got to give the Devil it's due, the model is amazing in detail and quality for the price you paid. I bought two packs of three for £22 per pack, one in BR livery and the other in NE. Overall it's an amazing deal and quality. I'm thinking of adding a bit of matt black to define the metal hinges, locks and Rivets to add some realism into it. Cheers.
Checking with Peter Tatlow's book on LNER wagons, this is an excellent model of the 10 t large cattle van, it's captured the unique look of the vehicle and at a price that's is very affordable. Time to have a train of cattle vans👍👍
I used to have one Hornby double controller and the guage master one for my four tracks and the guage master one brought nothing but probslems it would make them speed up in some places on the track on slow down on the others
Yes! That's because the standard gaugemaster ones don't use feedback, so the extra resistance as the train gets further from the power causes the trains to slow down - that's quite normal! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ooh! Very tempting. I reckon it would look nice with about 3 or 4 of them with a long box train behind. Also I liked the mixed stock with the wagons and coaches. Great vid Cheers Daniel:)

Very Interesting! A rolling stock Review! Sad it’s almost the Last Rolling stock Review for awhile! Very nice Price! Quite impressed with it! And You know Hattons! Always selling items for a Insane Price! Thanks for Uploading! Your mate -Sam ^__^
I still think manufacturers should give us the option of having a hole on the model's body that would allow us to fit real scale couplings. Tedious? Yes, but really realistic.
Nothing wrong with that wagon, my sort of price and remember you can spend the money you save on some nice engine perhaps. Never mind the cattle inside, get a few hobos . . 'third box car midnight train, destination Bangor Maine . . .'

Hi Sam that is great value for money i like the look of these they would go with any type of consist
Thanks a lot Lewis - yeah for sure, great for anything LNER! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I think this needs to be reviewed in a comparison with the other brands to see just how they compare in terms of quality and value for money. Just my two penneth!
Yeah I agree - I'd love to try that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Please can you do a ranking system for your rolling stock
Yes! I'm planning that for next year! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
10:48 Bullman! Be careful! Don't fall off the cattle van! I'd imagine he'd get injured again just like the time from that video of Speedy Pete. ;)
haha yeah!! He'd get a nasty crack ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What was your oldest model locomotive?
It's probably the Wrenn N2 - dates back to the 1940s I believe!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I’m sure you can store an actual cow in the thing just gotta grease the thing up a little
haha!! xD
I mean, what is your oldest model locomotive?
Definitely one of the Wrenn/Dublo models!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ah Bullman, probably one of his best cameos. : D
haha yes indeed, bless him! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam'sTrains You are welcome Sam : )
pretty cool little wagon!
Thanks mate! :D
Very Interesting! A rolling stock Review! Sad it’s almost the Last Rolling stock Review for awhile! Very nice Price! Quite impressed with it! And You know Hattons! Always selling items for a Insane Price!
Thanks for Uploading!
Your mate
-Sam ^__^
Thanks a lot Sam - it won't be the last I hope?!
Appreciate it mate! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I still think manufacturers should give us the option of having a hole on the model's body that would allow us to fit real scale couplings.
Tedious? Yes, but really realistic.
Yeah that would be great! But then everyone else would complain at the unrealistic hole in the body ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains If they can ignore the big ugly coupler i'm sure a hole would not bother that many.
Wow! I need to seriously get some Oxford rail rolling stock!!!!!
I can highly highly recommend it! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Sam may you give me the youtube link to your first video
th-cam.com/video/C9SQBG1wlHY/w-d-xo.html

Sam'sTrains lol
Hi Sam:-):^)^_^ Do you like standard CR 0-4-0 blue?
Hey Craig!! :D
Nothing wrong with that wagon, my sort of price and remember you can spend the money you save on some nice engine perhaps. Never mind the cattle inside, get a few hobos . . 'third box car midnight train, destination Bangor Maine . . .'
Absolutely right Ian - I'm only kicking myself that I didn't get a couple of them! haha - I'll see if I can find some hobos to put inside! xD
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi sam I'm back from Duxford and I have took a photos and I share you on facebook comments right now

Thanks for watching - Sam :)
11:05 "He's gonna have to get off before he reaches that passenger footbridge, otherwise we'll be having burgers again."
He doesn't deserve this!
haha that's true... but the thought of a burger was very appetising! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam is £110.0 a good price for a Railroad mallard? 😀😀😀😃😃😃😄😄😄😁😁😁
I'd say that's a bad price if it's just DCC readyR - generally I wouldn't recommend paying more than £100 for one! Rails have them for £87 +£4 delivery: railsofsheffield.com/products/27252/hornby-railroad-r3371-oo-gauge-lner-4-6-2-mallard-a4-class-locomotive
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Glad to see bullman approves of it lol
Oh yes, always!!
I like how u r always huddled up against ur camera talking about trains
It'd be bloody odd if I started talking about potted plants though wouldn't it?
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam'sTrains yeh I guess your right - Jack
Neat little wagon, you got.
Thanks a lot Tomas! :D
Great review

Haha bull man is metal and we will be getting burgers again you talking about burgers are making me hungry haha keep up the good work 👍🏻
haha sorry about that Finn - it's a good time of year for bugers! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah haha 🚂
Yeah haha I agree :)
More realistic than the Hornby version
Nice one sam, a way to make it heavier: put a fat cow inside 😂. That is a nice waggon 4 stars for me. Great video Sam 👍
haha that's actually very good advice! Glad you liked it mate! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
