Technically not a album but the Revolusongs EP kicks ass. It’s a series of cover songs and is really good. My favorite album would have to be Beneath the Remains or Chaos A.D. though

I only know the Cavalera Era, so it would be:
      1. Arise
      2. Schizophrenia
      3. Beneath the remains
      4. Morbid Visions
      5. Bestial Devastation
      6. Chaos AD
      7. Roots
Chaos AD and Roots is enjoyable, but it's not as good as the stuff that came before.

My argument FOR Roots (not that I think it's amazing) is literally nothing else sounds like that album. It's highly influential. It is wildly creative. It's a completely unique work that's a difficult thing to accomplish in metal. Deserves props just for that.

This. I don't get the hype for the first 3 albums... Sure, there are some great songs on them (BTR has the most good songs), but there are so many bands that have done that style in that period better. Roots was something completely new and different, it just feels more Sepultura because of that uniqueness and tribal feel attached to it. When I think of Sepultura, I think of tribal thrashy groove metal.

    • @Longlivedolphnigga

@@nihilist1280 I think it’s what type of metal you prefer. I personally dislike Roots and I thought Choas A.D. was just an okay album. I much prefer Arise because I prefer Thrash metal over groove metal/Nu metal.

The cover artwork on Obituary Cause of Death was originally supposed to be the artwork for Beneath the Remains ,but Roadrunner gave it to Obituary instead. So Sepultura was given another Michael Whalen artwork instead, being the Skull one Beneath the Remains has. Just a little side tidbit of information

It's individual of course. Sepultura has so many faces. Every single album is different. Regarding Against and Nation, i know people for whom the Sepultura is something like ideology. More than music. And especialy these albums means a lot for Sepulnation. Against is the most important album of the history of Sepultura, because Max's leaving the band and stuff and almost everybody stopped supporting Sepultura including roadrunner records etc. Against is the message to all haters. And about Nation, Nation is the Bible. Just listen to it from the start till the end.

You are missing out on Roots. In my opinion, it's their best album. (BTW, both Chaos AD and Roots have lots of groove metal elements, maybe that's the sound you don't like.) In my opinion, the top 5 are 1) Roots, 2) Chaos, 3) Arise, 4) Beneath the Remains, and perhaps 5) Quadra. I've not really clicked with the Green-era albums much. But I've been to several shows with Green and he puts on an amazing live show.

    6 Morbid Visions
5 Schizophrenia - Both this and Visions have such terrible production quality, so glad I got to hear some of the songs live.
4 Roots - This album is great, and the title track is legendary.
3 Chaos A.D. - Just barely edges out Roots. It's a minor step down from Arise and B.T.R.
2 Arise - This could be #1, it's so intense and just all-around great.
1 Beneath The Remains - My introduction to the band, and still what I think of when I hear the name.

Great review! They are my favourite band and always will be!
    Some things I would change:
    1) The song Hatred Aside from against saves the album beacuse it's a fucking great ,intense as hell song and it also features Jason Newsted who does great backing vocals.
    2) Roots is pretty killer. Songs like the title track, Rattamahatta as you said, Attitude and Cut-Throat kick ass. And Max's vocals are brutal as fuck!
    3) Chaos AD is a masterpiece for me. I like it more than schizophrenia beacuse of the songwriting and the production. They are both masterpieces though.
Beneath The Remains and Arise will always be my 2 favourite albums ever and they will continue to influence me until I close my eyes for ever and rest in peace; or pain (Schizophrenia reference).
    Max's era: 100000000/10
    Derrick's era: 8,5/10
My album ranking of Max's era:
    6: Roots
    5: Schizophrenia
    4: Chaos AD
    3: Morbid Visions
    2: Arise
    1: Beneath The Remains

I disagree about Roots. I think that album is when they found their own unique 'metal' signature sound and style that separated them from the rest. Before that they were just a metal band from brazil playing metal.

I like sepultura as a band, albums like beneath the remains, arise, and chaos A.D. are great albums, but roots in particular I thought was awful, them tryna sound nu metal since max cavalera was a fan of korn’s self titled debut and liked the sound and style of down tuned groovy guitar’s just doesn’t work for the band at all and the vocals were so bad that it made it a dreadful listening experience, the album is poorly executed because of the stupid and pointless ideas they came up with for the album that just completely goes out of place with the albums tone and the experimentation is poorly done aswell, max cavalera’s vocals being down graded and the way he sounds when he is shouting and screaming into the mic just felt forced and sounded laughable and painful to listen to that it just goes completely out of place with the instruments, the instruments did nothing for me on this album because they sound very repetitive throughout the album and the rest of the album just sounds like them trying to be a Korn copy of the down tuned style of groovy riffs but it just does not work at all for the band, the only song i like on the album that is actually an original and unique sounding song is ratamahtta because the vocals on that did not sound as dreadful and awful as the rest of the albums tracks are, i actually like this song because i think this song did not sound like a complete korn rip off, yes there is down tuned grooves but the way it sounds it doesn’t really sound like a complete korn copy since Korn are my favorite band of all time, when i first heard the song i did not like it because i thought it was weird and i thought the vocals were weird but hearing it again i actually like it now and i actually think its a fun song, the vocal chemistry by max cavalera and Carlinhos brown actually did not bother me and I did not mind the way they trade of each other, the vocals on the song by max is not great but not complete garbage like the rest of the album where it sounds like he has a sore throat and screaming his head off that goes completely out of place with the lyrics but on this song ratamahatta i think he actually did not make it felt forced and sound as abysmal as the rest of the album, now the instrumentals on the other hand of the song is actually unique and interesting the Brazilian tribal drumming makes it actually a original and unique sounding song and the vocals that Carlinhos brown does in the chorus actually makes it unique because i guess that’s how tribal people would sing I’m not sure?, but overall ratamahatta is the only song i like on the album the rest of the album is just a Korn wannabe that does not work for the band sense this album is produced by the same producer of korn’s self titled debut album which is one of my favorite albums of all time
