Love me some Testament! Good list! I prefer Brotherhood of the Snake out of the newer stuff. You should do a Death Angel ranking, another thrash band that hasn't put out a bad album
Low is the one I discovered them with... I guess that might be the reason why is the first on my list... it's more of an emotional choice. '94 is when I kinda started shifting from rock to metal and Low was one of those albums, together with Slayer's Divine Intervention, Megadeth's Youthanasia, Machine Head's Burn my Eyes, Motorhead's Sacrifice... Amorphis' Black Winter Day and Brutality's When the Sky turns Black... oh, I forgot, also Edge of Sanity's Purgatory Afterglow and Ghostorm's Frozen in Fire (man, what times...). On the topic, I couldn't get in all this band's albums... I don't know why, something didn't just click with me. I love Low, The Gathering (which maybe it should be first... for me), and The Ritual. I can listen and enjoy anytime, anywhere these ones. Anything else... uhm, I kinda like but not at the level of those 3.

great list, my only disagreement is with souls of black and practice what you preach being above all the modern albums, i think most people tend to overlook how hard is it to maintain such a high level of consistency throughout the years.
Glad to see The Gathering getting some love. That's one of my favorite Testament albums, as well. I saw them on that tour, still have my signed copy of the CD, which I got just weeks before Lombardo dropped off that tour. So good.

Dark roots of earth (imo their real comeback album. Rise up isnt great but after that its a pretty unique album with great songs) 4. Souls of black (dont get the hate at all for this album, easily my favorite from their first thrsh period) 5. Titans of Creation (i guess its a longer album but the quality of the songs makes up for it) 6. Practice what you preach (one of the best testament albums until greenhouse effect, falls of a bit after that but still good) 7. The New Order (basically nothing separating this from pwyp, only lower because pwyp title track is one of my fav testament songs) 8. The Legacy (overrated but still kickass) 9. Formation of Damnation (everyone says this is the best modern testament but I disagree. Gets kind of repetitive nesr the middle) 10. I just thought the songwriting was weak. Stuff like "I say rise up, you say war..." Yeah, that's just one quick example of why I thought this album was dull.

gonna be honest, and you can hate me for this: i used to love testament. i loved every album. however, now that i’ve actually dived into thrash and know more than the big four plus exodus, testament, and kreator (who are KILLER to be clear)... Testament don’t deserve the hype. they have 2 AMAZING albums (the legacy and new order), but everything after that? sorry but they fall off HARD. outside of low and brotherhood of the snake, every single one of their other albums is seriously generic or bland. sure, there’s stand out tracks here and there (souls of black, face in the sky, return to serenity, practice what you preach, etc), but the vast majority of their discography is seriously fucking boring. nearly every album feels like they’re going through the motions. they have two albums that i actually still like more than half of, and only one that i still listen to semi-frequently (the legacy). i loved them when i first got into thrash, but not so much anymore. i still respect the shit outta them though
Disagree. I think Practice and A New Order are their two best; Low is also top 5 for me and Brotherhood of the Snake is their most generic album next to Demonic. I think Testament is one of the greatest, I would only rank Metallica Megadeth Slayer and Pantera higher than Testament.
I strongely disagree.... The Gathering is a masterpiece ( for me even better than The Legacy and The New Order)..... The only album who is boring and monotonus is The Formation of Damnation( maybe Titans of Creations too) the others have at least 2 or more great songs
Demonic has my favorite song: THE BURNING TIMES. This song is really catchy and powerful. My least favorite is Dark roots of the earth. The riffs are good though predictable but the lyrics are dull, my god... The Ritual is boring as hell. Favorite, the New Order.

Low will always be my favorite. Love the unique songs, love the imagery, love the production. It's always the most "refreshing" album to go back to. Trail of Tears is easily their best ballad. The Ritual was easily my least favorite. It's basically everything that Low isn't.
Only thing nobody seems to mention is the WAAAYYYY sterile production on Practice. Songs, great, performances, great(except this album is where Louie gets lazy and stops thrashing), solos, Awesome, guitar sound, kinda mushy, vocals, killer, drum sound, fffffffffffflllaaattttt!, bass sound, what bass? There's a plunky, gutless, twonking, that might be a bass but its so horribly produced that it might better have been left off. Adds Nothing to the sound, adds Nothing to the songs, and is annoying(though not as bad as W.F.O. by Overkill), and always ruins my enjoyment of an otherwise pretty great record. This one could be remastered. The bass on the next record, Souls is MUCH better. Listen to the bass intro on Perilous Nation, donk de donkdonk donk donk donk donk, Blah!
Yeah 'Demonic" is my least favorite album of Testament. Death-metal does Not suit Testament, It's like a dedicated Jazz band suddenly puts out a country album. They should stick to what they do best, and that is THRASH-metal !!

Yeah 'Demonic" is my least favorite album of Testament. Death-metal does Not suit Testament, It's like a dedicated Jazz band suddenly puts out a country album. They should stick to what they do best, and that is THRASH-metal !!
