Escaped hedgehog at Wildlife Aid!

- We rescue a lot of animals from many different situations, but we rarely have to rescue an animal from our own hospital!
This hedgehog was being treated in our 'orphan room' when he managed to sneak open his incubator door in the middle of the night and escape!
The next morning, the search was on to locate him and help him back to the wild as quickly as possible :)

Yes, we had a hamster once. He escaped brought sone of my then wife's music sheets and made a best behind the piano. He died (he was old) a month later so it must have been a great adventure..

Simon, thank you for your calm approach, vocabulary, and etiquette. As an USAmerican all I hear from my fellows when minor things go wrong is an outlash of violent profanity. It's refreshing to hear collected "British slang," even though I know you control yourself for the animal's sake. Your colorful nicknames are always a treat :)
"Auw! You little toad!" few seconds later: "Aaauw!?" Simon is so sweet to animals, he's even able to speak to them. :-). And for real, does a bite from a hedgehog hurts a lot?
Eva Nix I had an African pygmy hedgehog, and he'd bite but his teeth weren't that sharp. Rodents have sharper teeth.
Then it must hurt a lot. ;-)
Eva Nix, it does hurt quite a bit when they are playing, so it must be worse when they are angry. I took care of one once for a few months
, and it got really tame and playful.

This is the funniest rescue I've ever seen. I bet that hog was laughing his head of. You might wanna name him hogini :')

Our garden is like a fast food restaurant for hedgies. Tons of worms and slugs. We've seen two hogs at once but they must've found somewhere better. WELL DONE FOR CARING XXXXX

I had such a fit of laughter when I saw him nagging at Simon, licking the camera and sticking his nose right onto it! Mine, this little prickly trickster is quite a handful! 💖💖
HAHAHAHA! Nothing to be embarrassed about! I was letting both of my hedgies run the kitchen as I was giving them baths. Simon (like that name? 😉) managed to go under a cabinet and wedged himself between two cabinets! We had to cut a hole through the side of our beautiful cabinets (thankfully on the INSIDE of the cabinet) to get him out. We then re-covered the hole. Then we put a small piece of wood in the spot he managed to wiggle in through. LOL It was quite the adventure but the little turd REFUSED to come out on his own. LOL The new owners of our home must have wondered what got into us that we cut a hole through the side of one of the cabinets! 😂😂😂

LOL! Smart hedgehog. I just love this site and this organization. They are doing a job many don't feel is important and I love being able to support a group dedicated to returning wild animals to the wild instead of zoos or pvt owners. Children are amazed when they see animals in the wild. It's an incredible experience. Keep up the good work WAF....I'm sending you a case of duct tape :))

Elaine it would've been pricking him. They roll into a ball as their prickles are their main defence, then when you try to pick up said ball of prickles they hiss and huff and every time they do this the prickles poke you more than they already were. Lol

I just adore hedgehogs, they're so cute! Up until last weekend we'd had a number of hedgehogs over the past 2 years visit the garden but I've not seen any for a week, I hope they come back.

I found a HedgeHog in a middle of a road last week (in France). I had no more battery on my phone and i didn't really knew what to do. He wasn t a baby but looked young. Since he looked fine I've put him back in the grass hoping he would go back to his mom.
I'm really worried now that i checked internet since it was daytime and they re supposed to be hidden and solitary.
