I've been canoeing past swans for years. It's important to give them the respect and space they deserve. The worst that has happened has been a few hisses and a swan landing close to the side of my kayak. I wouldn't want to capsize though and have to swim to shore with kayak and paddle with a protective swan nearby.

there were some eastern europeans i think were i lived and they'd hunt swans some of them got busted but one day one of them mummy swan was with the babies while daddy was protecting them and one of the guys thought it would be smart to take a swan baby but ended up having his arm broke due to the dad
