Lip had so many people in his corner and he just... Threw it all away. So sad.
He had a real chance to get out and help his family but his destructive behavior and horrible upbringing got in the way too many damn times. He ruined all his opportunities and never really took accountability and that was the problem
Everyone always says this but that’s the point of the show. We get to see every child’s potential and watch them ruin every opportunity but like validly bc they had such a horrible childhood. Everyone’s like I hate Debbie she used to be soo sweet, *thats the point* Lip and Ian had so much potential *that’s the point*
He could’ve turned his life around if he just went back to school and didn’t give up but he did and that’s sad
@@llcourtI agree! Everyone hates on them without realizing just how strong they are and what they’ve had to learn about themselves. These kids were abandoned and used.

Lip's ego will always be his enemy. It's such a relatable struggle for for many young guys cause ultimately it doesnt mater how many people you have in your support group. if you cant take control of your life or humble yourself to take advantage of the Opportunities before you, you only set yourself up for failure.
Yeah well it us guys. I'm stubborn but it helps me move forward. Only few of us have the mentors to move ahead. I've been lucky fortunately

Fiona wasn’t even ever bad at school. Lip belittled her all time like an asshole because she raised a family
Fiona could have qualified for athletic scholarship too. She was an amazing runner 😢
Lip was gifted and threw that away.

@@torakunoichi He was still gifted he was just so use to b.s.ing his way through classes without having to study that his professors caught on to it. During season 5 and half of season 6 he was doing very well. He had a schlorship, was the RA for his dorm, and a TA for Yuens. Unfortunately his stupidity when it came to properly handling his relationship with Amanda and getting involved with professor ruined that.
I know that’s what pissed me off he could’ve done so much more with his life
I love how Lip got even more mad that the teacher didn't respond to his BS.

Lip hated the idea of having to do what Fiona did for the family so much that he'd avoid doing well or would self sabotage when he was.
Lip was his own worst enemy. Threw his whole future away trying to be big bad.

I get tired of people excusing Fiona’s massive screw ups all the damn time. But This scene plays in the back of my head when later when Fiona is spiraling he kicks her out and doesn’t do anything but condemn and scream at her. Because she always showed support and love but with a firm hand when they needed help to be put back on track. But when she needed help just immediate alienation and condemnation without a seconds hesitation. I will admit there are times when someone needs to be cut off and hit rock bottom on their own to rise back up. But that’s a last resort not a first option.
Lip had the chance to take everything on a silver plater or paper plate, sadly he chose a paper plate.
Sad to watch, but I like how they kept it real with his character. There was no nice ending for him like we was all waiting for. He’s like the millions of regular people walking around with wasted potential.

season 2 lip was such a little shit 😭 quitting school, leaving home, yelling at Fiona about the squirrel fund, like ugh
Nah everything else (even tho I relate to lip a lot I’m not a genius but the whole self sabotage shit it’s still annoying I know) is annoying school leaving but the squirrel fund shit is not a shitty thing that’s the family’s whole savings why tf did they let her back in😭😭
Best lip was season 4-5 lip. After that he was basically pure puke 🤢🤮🤢🤮 . And lets not even talk about S9-S11
It's very frustrating and hard to watch all of the Gallaghers self-sabotage themselves in different ways!

It wasn't just lip, The writers ruined practically all of the characters from frank on down; Kevin and Veronica were in my opinion the only ones spared from their wrath. 😢😬🙄😉💯🔥👍🏻

@ohh_heavy more than just poverty, these are extremely traumatized kids surviving in a rather unkind world. Generational trauma. The trauma of day to day life. Ian's major issues with mental health disorder and being gay, and frankly being preyed upon as teen by Kash consequently leading to maximizing daddy issues due to this family absent and when present awful dad/parents. Fiona had to become caretaker of her entire family including in her pre-teens. And POVERTY . A System designed to rob the dignity of poor ppl.
In the end many bad calls and personal decisions are due to just their own will and judgment. But in others the systemic dysfunction of their life manifests in extremely bad and self destructive judgment calls
I get lip sometimes people don’t want to be the family’s golden goose and be the one that’s wealthy like yea he could’ve done that but I feel he felt pressured to be great and that scared him

I never liked Lip in this series. For someone "smart" he can be so dumb and completely unreasonable
It’s a classic case of book and academics smart but completely lacking any emotional intelligence.
To be honest no one other than Kevin kidding around actually expected Lip to the golden goose providing for his family. Lip doesnt have that much pressure to succeed academically in comparison to the pressure of getting enough money to pay bills.
Keep in mind that when Fiona decided to get a GED instead of a diploma Lip was all dramatic saying it didnt count even thoigh Fiona has to take care of three children still in elementary school.
Notice how Lip brushed off Carl and Debbie saying they can take care of themselves. I bet y'all that Fiona, did not do that shit to Lip and Ian when they were the same age
ngl I related to lip during this season because I was like him when I was 17, thinking that no one knows what's best for me and everybody wanted me to be successful academically just so they can use me for my talents

I kind of get it tbh. While my family wasn't as struggling as the Gallagher's, I do remember having a realization that my parents/siblings were just using me/expecting me to do everything for them in the future. My Mum, in particular, would keep bringing up how one day I will "buy her a mansion" which quickly persuaded my siblings to be like that towards me as well. While it's not the exact same; I think Lip hears everyone tell him that, because of his potential, he has to be really successful for both his and their sakes. And he interprets that as people assuming/pressuring him into being someone THEY want him to be, and not necessarily being some HE wants to be.
@@oreki22 yeah but in Lips case, it wouldn't even be hard work, the guy literally wrote essays and tests for others to get into high school or university
he is smart enough that it would be a walk in a park for him, also it's quite a dick move since Fiona already sacrificed her opportunity for a normal/happy future for him and all the other siblings, yet he isn't willing to do a somewhat low effort sacrifice for her
@@agbrenv Yeah, but it's not about the difficulty of reaching that point. It's about how it feels and the pressure. Lip can (with his intelligence) become very successful a lot easier than his other siblings. But that's not the issue he is having. It's about how everyone is adding all this extra pressure to him, saying he has to be what they want him to be for their sakes. You hear that enough times, and not only does it stress you out and lessen your motivation, but it also makes you resentful of your family. Those probably well meaning pleas of "succeed for our sake" eventually over time start sounding like people demanding you do all the work for them (no matter how difficult it actually is) as though they will live off of you. They sound less encouraging and more like people proclaiming that you succeeding is their only hope in life, not yours. When this happened to me, it freaked me out to the point of depression, wondering if my 'goals' were actually my own or if they were just what others had said I had to do. It's compounding pressures basically.
@@oreki22 yeah but the thing is, he still does help the family, and stays with them, only instead he provides for them through scamming, stealing etc. which is way more risky and less profitable
and it's really not about him being the only one to provide, since out of the siblings, all of them do what they are capable of, to help out, so all he is doing is making his own, and everyone elses struggle worse, because he is still providing for them, but is willingly chosing the less profitable option
also, if he is so much against being the highest provider, nothing is actually binding him to provide for his siblings, he can get a job, move out and live his life, but he is basically undercutting everyone, for no real reason
and for that matter, they never really kept nagging him to go to college to be able to provide for them, but mostly because he wasn't utilising his brilliant mind
