Is this the infamous Billy Sims double karate drop-kick game -- AKA..the best and coolest run in NFL history?? I honestly never thought this full game would ever surface. Living in LI/NY - with Billy Sims being m favorite player as kid - we had no chance of this full game being shown in our Northeast region. I DID see highlights back then - but I always bitter I was robbed of the full game. And thanks to #80's Football Cards - that bitterness has lifted.
@@johnrambo7630 Thank you, sir!! Billy Sims looks like the Rock's dad Rocky Johnson taking out two samoans during that - or Captain America against Hydra goons. To this day - I'm not even sure there's a rule against what Billy Sims does in this play???
This was one of the few times Lions fans in those days got to see the Motor City Kitties on television wearing the Honolulu blue uniforms. The combination of its 80,500-seat capacity and the Lions' general suckitude in the 1980s meant that the Pontiac Silverdome rarely sold out, so few home games were ever seen in Detroit. The only times Lions fans got to see the team in blue were road games against teams that wore white at home, as the Oilers did here, the Buccaneers did in September and October for most of the Creamsicle era, and the Cowboys still do to this day. As a kid in that era, I actually looked forward to those Lions-Bucs poopfests from the Big Sombrero for exactly that reason -- it was the one guaranteed television appearance in Honolulu blue each season.
Campbell's best years were wasted with garbage coaching (1981-84). The Oilers went 10-37* from the start of 1981 through the sixth game of 1984 when Bum rescued him from Houston. The Oilers were 0-6 in 1984 on their way to 3-13. They were 2-14 in 1983 and 1-8 in 1982. The losing started with Ed Biles in 1981 (7-9) after 3 consecutive playoff finishes under Bum from 1978-80. Campbell deserved much better. With the Saints, Campbell went 9-17. 19-54 record under Campbell (1981-85) after a fantastic 32-14 start + 4 playoff wins + 2 AFC Championship Game appearances (1978-80).
Loved Earl but it was plain to see he was a shooting star. Nobody runs like that in the NFL for long. You can see it in this game getting taken down by a DB one on one. I agree with you about the Houston organization but I think no matter what team Earl played for he would have been worn down by year 5 or 6 I’m just glad I was able to see him perform in his prime 78-82
Those weren't Earls best years, if they were they would have won more games. Earls running style wore him out and he was a shell of himself by this point. He still put up decent stats because even as a shell of his old self he was still starter material.

If Earl Campbell is in the NFL Hall of Fame . So should Billy Simms.
Hell yeah, I clicked on this the moment I saw it was up, and I wasn't even a football move. Billy Sims is a favorite of mine to watch.
Ah yes, the "Billy Sims loses his shit" Bowl

Billy Sims' karate kick: 51:32
Should have never fired Bum Phillips......dumbest move in franchise history. And that's coming from a diehard Steelers fan
24:22 "He doesn't see Gay, comes around the backside"
3 of Houston's 11 offensive starters are in Canton today. Yet, they were 0-10 entering this game.
Billy Sims karate kick play starts at 51:14, his sideline tantrum starts soon after 2:36:10
I remember it but forgot stuff too😊
A lot of white & blue 🔵 at this game.
I am watching a recently found upload.
Oliver Luck wasn’t a good QB but his son Andrew was way better, he was the superstar in the family, as luck would have it. 😂😂
Andrew Lucks father first start
Maybe he played because of an injured or ineffective play ▶️ of Ken " The Snake ⛎" Stabler.
I believe stabler was in New Orleans at this time
