When I created my publishing company, I thought about just creating a DBA, but then decided to make it into an LLC to cover my editing services. Of course, I had to dissolve it when I moved out of WA, so, I’m still unofficially Pixie Bound Books LLC...just need to get another business license now that I’m in MT. 😜 Love the real and in the moment bloopers! Some of my favorite moments! I laugh right along with you. 🤣🤣

I just recently got four DBAs, and will be getting EINs for them, plus bank accounts for them as well. I was going to go the LLC route, but a lawyer and accountant I spoke to said I didn't need that starting out. It's something to get once I start making big bucks.
You don't get EIN's for DBAs. I am sure your professionals explained that to you but the DBA pays taxes through whatever legal entity holds the DBA. In your case that sounds like you're a sole proprietor so the taxes will be filed under your name.
I had talked to the lawyer about an LLC, but not about a DBA. I called my accountant about EINs for my four DBAs. Asked if he needed to get them, or if I could do it myself. He never said DBAs didn’t need an EIN ... only that it was easy, and I could do it. I’m learning this as I go along, so I’m glad I commented, and that you set me straight. Thanks. That’s one less step I need to do. Guess I can open new bank accounts without getting and waiting for EINs.

Great video on this, I went with a publisher so did not worry too much on the imprint everything I did copyright and ISBN's which might want to mention you need for each type of printing that you're doing, so one for hardback, one for softback, one for Ebook, and one for an audiobook. On mine, I am still slated for an October release and the promo posters were shipped to me last Friday so should have them this week. Along with preorders next week or week after next starting. I really want to say thank you for all the Videos they helped me a lot to get where I am now.

I had my heart set on one name, until I Googled it and found out that it already existed. As did every name that I tried for hours - probably about 20 variations and ideas. Finally, I based my name on my street address. Maple Grove Press. Then I registered the name and bought myself the use of a mailbox in the local post office so that I didn't need to put my real home address on everything. (I'm in Canada and already self-employed under my own name.)

Book Launchers, I actually don’t know yet. Since my book is a Christian book, I’m trying to see what the legality is of publishing it under my church’s name if allowed. Like maybe starting a self-pub group for ppl within the church network. So that’s still to be determined.

I don't want to post the stoopidest publishing imprint I've ever seen, because the dope who did this might actually see this (not that he's huge on research, but that's another video), was "Teeny-Weeny Publications." So are the books the size of a postage stamp or does one not have loft goals for their work? One wonders... Great video, as always. One good thing about publishing under an imprint name is many, many people assume someone else is the publisher, thus avoiding those "not good enough to have someone else print your work" conversations.
I don't think you have to have it classified that way but I always recommend you speak with an attorney and an accountant when starting a new venture to set yourself up the best way.
If you choose not to do the LLC route do you need to have the name of the Publishing name copyrighted which is a horse of a different expensive color.........I want to buy my own Isbn's so can I just make up a good publishing name without creating a separate business and it be legal ?
Different ISBNS for different formats or different books on different KDP accounts - yes although I am wondering why you have moer than one KDP account. I believe that is not allowed with their terms of service.

This is the exact step I am at in KDP for my paperback children’s book. Imprint. I set up my ISBN Publisher just as my name (was recommended). The ISBN process was so easy that I feel like I’m missing something. Am I correct thinking I do not need to send ISBN Canada my script? I have received my 13 digit ISBNs, and I see no mandatory sections for script. On my profile page there is an “Import ISBN”... is that just for record in Library Archives? Or should I import before I publish? Thanks for all your great videos.
My "imprint" or pub. co. is Canadian as is my ISBN, but Amazon.com only mentions ISBN's that come from Bowker or local agencies. They say they will check the ISBN's imprint that you enter into their system against the ISBN you got from Bowker and the associated imprint. If it's not a match, they don't let you publish. But, I did not use Bowker, so I'm wondering what I should write for imprint or if my book will be banned because it doesn't have an ISBN/imprint listed on Bowker.
My books had Canadian ISBNs and didn't have any issues. We have plenty of Canadian clients as well and they get the ISBN from Canadian. ISBN is an international number so there should not be an issue.

I incorporated my company & TM name. I prefer my own business. I’m new to self publishing. How do I get Pod consistency eg colouring book and showcase on webste for publishing co yet, have accounts with Amazon, B&N, Kobo, & iBooks + wide distribution. I will publish POD interactive books, colouring, journals, skills etc and Ebook/Pod Childrens books & poetry books. I supply my own isbn. Do you have a course on that? Lots to ask. Lots to do.
That's a lot of very specific questions and I'm not exactly sure how to answer you generically. We also don't do childrens or poetry books so I would check out Keith Wheeler Books channel for some great advice on that.

I am a first time self publisher, completely new to publishing and all, I have just finished 4 books I am looking forward to publish early next year. I have been advised to buy my own ISBN if I want my books to be recognised by the British library and UK book stores which I absolutely want as my books are educational books for language learners and children. When I wanted to buy my ISBN, I read on retailer page that my books will be registered as published by them but that's not what I want. I want my book to be published under my brand name, that's why I don't mind buying ISBN. I am totally confused, what do you suggest please? As anyone been in my situation before? Please help. Are you buying your ISBN from an agency? If you are you'll be registering yourself as a publisher. If you are buying them through a publisher or somewhere other than an ISBN agency then you aren't following the right process. Have you checked out Joanna Penn? Amazon KDP says they will verify your imprint. Does that work, if you make up your own?
Yes but when we make it up we still register it as a fictional business in the county you're doing business.

Okay so in my bowker account it made me put a company name for myself. I used "Ron Ward Jr Publishing" That's my imprint?
You'll need to register it as a DBA / Fictitious business but then it will be.

Probably, although I would create a DBA under it to make it more book focused on the surface but it depends.

That's a lot of very specific questions and I'm not exactly sure how to answer you generically. We also don't do childrens or poetry books so I would check out Keith Wheeler Books channel for some great advice on that.

I am a first time self publisher, completely new to publishing and all, I have just finished 4 books I am looking forward to publish early next year. I have been advised to buy my own ISBN if I want my books to be recognised by the British library and UK book stores which I absolutely want as my books are educational books for language learners and children.
When I wanted to buy my ISBN, I read on retailer page that my books will be registered as published by them but that's not what I want. I want my book to be published under my brand name, that's why I don't mind buying ISBN.
I am totally confused, what do you suggest please?

Are you buying your ISBN from an agency? If you are you'll be registering yourself as a publisher. If you are buying them through a publisher or somewhere other than an ISBN agency then you aren't following the right process. Have you checked out Joanna Penn?
