This happened in 1982 at Aqueduct as well, a horse broke down as it was crossing the wire in front, and was disqualified. Another horse did the same but it crossed first on a broken leg and was not disqualified; that horse was Emporias.

Official result was to keep his first place, because the jockey was still holding the rein and not touching the ground at the finishing line

I'm just saying this I've lived next to a horse farm my whole life he races his horses and he races them in the professional races. Even the horses that take a huge gal and break a born are taken back and cared for they retire they move across the way to his game where his son lives where they live for the rest of there lives his horses never are put down unless the injuries are fatal. Yes some people put them down and yes sometimes horses break legs but the horses are loved and cared for!

I love racing and have been working in race horse stables doing all things from mucking, grooming,to training but i will never get used to the whip mentality in some countries.. if you watch you will see the horse is in trouble a little wjile before it fell and the leg snapped/broke.. that horse must have run its heart out to manage that.. however i think they should lose the 1st place... kind of weird to see how diffrent the racing is in some other contries compared to norway and sweeden... i feel so bad for the horse and those who loved it but unless it had damage in that leg from prior actdents i dont see how it could have been prevented.. as for wether loosing 1st place or not-thats a tecnacatily and it comes down to regulationd in that contry where the race was held... glad it did not turn out to be a bigger accident with more horses, cause it could so easely have happened.... :/

You can clearly see in the slow motion while the horse is rolling that his front left leg is broken and likely the cause of his fall. They run these horses hard that sadly these 'blow out' injuries are common. So even if he did win the race, he lost his life doing so.

    • @windjager2177

@Abdiel_Lopezboriua2015if a horses leg breaks it usually means the horse is shot/killed because it's hard for horses to live with three legs, they aren't meant to be on stable rest, and an extensive surgery for thr leg would mean the horse has to rest a long time- and would likely develop laminitis and die

Only when the last tree has died, the last lake has been poisoned, the last fish has been caught, and the last animal has gone extinct will we realize that we cannot eat money. We will realize all our mistakes. Something as simple as horse racing can even turn out to be a mistake.

+Frank Dioguardi depends on the rules - some may demand that the horse carry its weight the entire length of the race and in that case it would not be counted as a win. Even only if a weight slipped out of the saddle bag the ruling would be the same as if the jockey go thrown off

I love the comments about how the horses are treated like royalty. This industry is running horses whose bones aren't formed yet at full speed and want to talk about how great they treat them. These BABIES shouldn't even be at a full run yet and you all know it, so stop making excuses for your pathetic industry. Sure, you treat them wonderfully and when they don't come home from the track because you killed them, you just use their tack on the next horse. You tell yourself whatever you want so you can sleep at night; I know I wouldn't be able to.

  • @jock4hire
    @jock4hire 11 ปีที่แล้ว

Assuming this is in japan,... If the rules are the same there as US, the Jockey must maintain contact with the horse, as the horse crosses under the wire. Couldn't really see to tell if this jockey had held onto the reins or not. But this jock clearly had not maintaied contact with his mount. A very nasty spill on what appears to have been a very hard racing surface. What was the Officials ruling? I'm interested to know. If the racing rules are same as ours. I'd have to say, DQ.

LookED like a fantastic runner. He snapped a front leg, probably was put down immediately with an injury like that. I bet the horse had a problem before the race, and the trainer knew it. Happens all the time Injured horses get doped up with legal or illegal pain meds, raced, and they break down. Its a wonder the jockeys don't just plain refuse to ride, until punishments for this are much more severe than they are now.

The first horse race of the season, race 1,1:00 P.M.,my first time seeing a race live, and there was a sheet of ice under the water on the track.Just as the horses hit the last turn,3 horses slipped and spun out of control. Throwing the jockeys hard on the ice.In which they spun and slid. Leaving nasty burn marks from the friction. All 3 horses, never
ran again, all were euthanized. Needless to say, this was my first racing experience. Later,I did become a jockey. Moved far away from that track.

The jockey can be in the air. This happened in melb a couple of years back the horse jumped over the shadow of the finish line pushing the jockey into the air. He still had hold of the reigns and was declared a runner and won it coz he was still intact going past the line.

In certain countries they mostly end up in slaughter if they have become suddenly non-productive through injury. It is not cost effective to just keep them. There are few buyers for permanently lame horses. If the country does not have a good hunter/jumper or dressage or trail riding industry, there is just no more use for the horse.

Sorry, have to disagree. I see the cannon bone was snapped and caused the horse to fall. The horse gets up and moves on 3 legs, but front left is waving around loose. Snapped. The horse was likely euthanized on the track before the next race. What race was this? Sad, but this does happen at races. Even this year at the Preakness there was a horse who had leg snap, then another collapsed after winning from heart giving out.

Usually horses who have broken any bones (including legs) are put down. Unfortunately, that was probably the case here (although I am not positive)

My apologies if you misunderstood me, mate but here was no offence taken and I hope there was none the other way. I was just clarifying a point for you. You are right though...we should have universal rules in racing, or as close as we can get to them, but I think it's a long, long way off. (Especially between jurisdictions such as Hong Kong/Australia etc and Japan/Europe etc.)

Rider is still on top of the horse -even airborne- and still holding harness. He only lands After the finish line, so technicaly speaking he hasn't dismounted horse till, both horse and rider, crossed the line. I'd rule him winner. Even if i'd have to add some sentiment of JUSTICE in my call.
Besides; he DID win the race ..
Asking for a DQ is simply wrong.

there should be no horse racing in the world...
animals should not be used for such type of human entertainment...
its a shame for humanity at large...

I agree. While we're at it, let's ban people riding horses at all. It's so cruel. We should let them into the fields to run free and let nature cull them the way it was intended... through freezing winters and when they overgraze and hundreds starve to death. You know what IS a shame to humanity? Ppl like you who don't have a clue what they're talking about.

      bgardiner2000 nature is great indeed...
while there are scraps like me, there are also lords like you to balance the nature...
a lord of such understanding that he cannot differentiate between taking advantage of the animal for our own pleasure (horse racing) and caring and good behaviour for animals(upbringing them, giving them shelter, making provision for food for them)...
oh my god, what a genius...mixing these 2 things as same...
thanks god, you have used this lord to open my eyes...
i was in such a darkness....i was such a SHAME for humanity...
      go little and big horses...
go and finish yourselves for our baseless pleasures...
after all you have been created for our such baseless pleasures..
you cannot be considered as better than that...!!!!!!!!

it is not bcoz once they have been used for this purpose that it should perpetuate.
at a certain point in time, some human beings were enslaved..however it has changed
once women were not allowed rights to vote, now its changed..
once everyone would throw their wastes in the streets, not bothering about the environment..now its changed...
we human beings, we have got this quality of always improving on everything..we should contimue it with the horses and the animals.
once, horses were taken from the wild, tamed and used for races..fine..may be it was ok at that time...
but in this age, use animals for this purpose of human entertainment...??!!!
unless the horses COULD SPEAK to us and tell us they love to be used for these types pf entertainment, i will not dare to simply use my personal observations (which may be biased) to proclaim that they love horse racing...!!!
and thus in so doing try to convince my self, and to calm down my conscience, that what im doing is right
it would be really human to, time and again, review our practices concerning these entertainment and apply corrective measure where necessary...

it works that way in most races, you must be mounted as you cross the finish line. If you come off after you cross the line then you're okay. but it you come off before crossing the line, you are disqualified.

    • @ummagummacologne
      @ummagummacologne 10 ปีที่แล้ว

The rule is:: The horse must have his nose in front, and the jockey must have contact with the horse. When the horse crossed the finish-line, the jockey had the rains in his hands and won the race.

ummagummacologne I agree though I'd word it differently. The rule is:: The horse must have his nose in front at the finish line and the jockey must have contact with the horse, e.g. be in the saddle. and reins on the horse when the horse crosses the finish line in order to win the race. And in this case the rider clearly was not in contact with the horse at the finish line. Lucky Number 8 horse won.

This was the decision of the Stewards in Macau 24.8.2012
      RACE-3 THE COLUMBUS RATING 50-30 (CLASS 4&5) 1050 METRES (498)
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to establish whether PROFITABLE (A HELFENBEIN) finished the race. As the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey A HELFENBEIN remained in contact with PROFITABLE via the rein when that horse’s nose passed the finish line, the Stewards were satisfied that the horse be deemed a runner and therefore was able to be placed by the Judge. Correct Weight was given on the Judge’s placings:
      1st PROFITABLE (A HELFENBEIN)
2nd THE STAR OF GEELY (L CORRALES)
      3rd HOLSON (F DURSO)
      4th NEOCORTEX (APPRENTICE Y M Choi)
It was further established that PROFITABLE (A HELFENBEIN) broke down in the left fore fetlock joint and fell when crossing the line. As a consequence I GOT PICTURES (B YAMZON) which attempted to jump the fallen horse dislodged its rider and as the fallen horse regained its feet, it collided with WONDERFUL STEED (W L HO) resulting in Jockey W L HO being dislodged from his mount. Approaching the winning post THE STAR HOPE (T PEREIRA) was checked and steered out to avoid the fallen horses and riders. PROFITABLE was subsequently euthanased. Jockey A HELFENBEIN was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and was stood down from further riding engagements this evening. Jockeys W L HO and B YAMZON were examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and cleared to ride.

From what I know in the past, some horses, and I'm not saying every single horse, gets injected with steroids. They stick their legs in ice water to reduce swelling. Many have to have surgery because they pulled a muscle. But I'm not saying every horse is treated like this. Some horses are lucky to have a wonderful trainer, while others.... should burn in hell.

A whip and a riding crop are two completely different things. A whip is a long thing strip of leather that can be snapped with great force. Think of a bull whip. They can split skin and cause great pain....a torture device even used on humans throughout history. A riding crop is TOTALLY DIFFERENT! Those used in racing have a small flat square leather flap that's flexible. Some horses have a tendency to loose concentration and even turn their heads to gawk. Where the head goes, the body can follow. You do not want a horse weaving into another's path. Some jockeys just use them to get a horse's attention back. No owner is going to want their investment scarred mentally or physically. NOTE: I am not a fan of racing. Too many horses are dying from poor breeding practices. Today's Thoroughbred IS NOT bred for longevity on the track. They aren't even close to the horses that ran 30 races with no injuries. They're running too young and on legs built like toothpicks! Sorry so long!
