Your videos are beyond great. The side by side comparisons are especially helpful. Helped me buy the B2601, with its clear , quantifiable advantages. (Sorry, JD lovers--please don't flame me!) I'm extremely happy. Another less quantifiable but still critical component of any tractor, IMHO, is the guy/dealer you buy it from. I'm very lucky to have a person, and dealership, as helpful and knowledgeable as you and yours. I shopped around a lot before buying and found a dealer with as many advantages as the tractor itself. I have a B2601 and my neighbor has 1023, and we’re both happy. Any tractor is better than no tractor. And definitely get the extra hydraulics at time of purchase - 3nd function on front and tilting capability on the rear. If you have any brush, rocks, logs, branches, etc, to deal with, (anything besides dirt) a grapple will be indispensable. If have a tractor with a bucket is a 5, adding a grapple makes it a 10. I have a root rake/clam shell/claw grapple. Excellent all-around grapple……
I have just less than 2 acres but a large garden so I prefer the John Deere for what I would get out of them. Right now I have two John Deere garden tractors from late 1980’s and I would love to swap them for the 1025r with the front end loader and a few attachments and belly mower. It would make my life so much easier.
I did roughly the same comparison before buying my tractor, and ended up going with the B2301 over the 1025r. The HP didn't matter to me, but the bigger tires hold a lot more rim gaurd and give better ground clearance. IMPO if your going to be mostly on turf get the JD 1025r, but if your going to be mostly on dirt and in the woods get the Kubota. They are both good tractors.

When I sold JD1025 and switched to 2680 I was missing the most position valve control for 3 point hitch. Jd has, 2680 not. BX2680 is smaller machine compared to JD1025, which look like compact tractor on undersized wheels compared to bx series. Both subcompact by manufacturers but are different animals. Jd1025 is very close to 2601, much closer than to bx. Install smaller wheels on 2601 and you will have exactly same size tractors. Currently own 2601 and so far best tractor out of those. 2650 was too big for my needs. 2601 is much better efficient on fuel, more powerful and comes with 3 range transmission. Many times save me because very low 1st gear. Plastic hood vs metal, or speed control (t. pedal vs twin pedal) doesnt really matter. You will get used to any of type. Only advantage of JD1025 vs B2601 is maneuverability. JD1025 can really turn tight. Loader for Kubota mentioned is LA435, one lever hydraulic coupler.
To “split hairs”, the 1025 seems to fall right between the BX and the B2601 only. The B26/3350 is like the 2” series JD. Quick hitch is looking good! I also saw the mower deck going up and down on the Kubota, so that weight needs to be added! Wooo!
Formula Firebird (Pontiac 👍) I own a B series and the mower deck, if left on the tractor, is supposed to be pinned to the tractor underneath. Then the 3 point won’t be lifting/lowering it while using other implements and keeps the mower high off the ground.
Both impressive tractors. I have another brand of subcompact and am seriously considering an upgrade to at least a newer version and a switch to another brand. Given the additional capacities of the Kubota, I do like those and the fact that is not much physically larger than the 1025R. You did a very good comparison. What is it on the kabota that gives it the more powerful lift on the 3-point hitch compaired to the 1025R??? Is there any way to give more lift power to the 1025R 3-point hitch??? The John Deere 1025R only weighs about 1400 pounds. I find that the three point hitch lift capacity of the 1025R is engineered relative to the weight of the tractor. The approximately 850 pound lift capacity as shown in the video is adequate in my actual experience with the 1025R. I have never found the point hitch lift capacity on my 1025R to be inadequate. I would estimate that a three point hitch lift capacity greater than the amount engineered into the 1025R would possibly cause stability problems especially regarding the front wheel contact with the ground. In contrast, the Kubota B2601 tractor alone weighs about 1650 pounds. A three point hitch lift capacity approaching 1600 pounds, as in the video, would be scary to me. I have stability concerns. Also, such a large poundage on the three point hitch lift capacity would probably put excessive weight on the rear axle and other associated components. I do not believe that the three point hitch capacity of the B2601 is engineered relative to the weight of the tractor. Thanks for the video. I like to see things compared. I considered both Kubota and John Deere when looking for a tractor. When I bought my John Deere the availability of a dealer network in close vicinity to my home was a primary factor in my choice. Now that I have been an owner for three years I have come to favor the engineering built into the John Deere.
You do understand that the ballast with the quick hitch is now farther away from the unit (albeit only several inches) but the physics makes it more difficult to lift the same weight (esp when you are trying to max it out). Example: lift a 40lb box with your arms slightly extended from your body, now bring it in right next to you and see which is easier to lift...
I explain this in another video. It has nothing to do with this test as both are closer than the MFG rating which is a 24" load center. So, this is a apples to apples comparison. I'm not working on a Hollywood budget here in case you weren't aware. 🤣👍

I was at Kubota dealer getting my tires filled with RImgaurd after watching TTWT. I was wondering in the parking lot, and the BX series isn't very big. I think my X585 is physically bigger but weighs less. How would a BX series with the same HP stack up against a X series with a loader?
@@GoodWorksTractors Hmm... so far I am impressed with X585 with 45 fel find. I moved 20 tons of fill in a day. I like your channel good info on compact tractors. The one thing the skid steer excels at is being able to watch the front edge of the bucket for grading and cutting.
I have lots of experience on skid steers, I have run a small T450 Bobcat and I must say the X585 is almost as good. The 450 has more power and break out force on the bucket. But I adapted my running style to get the most out of the 585. It would be interesting to try a 1025R with its more weight and stronger hydraulics. The tractor doesn't tear up the ground like skid steer.
@@KirtH27 I highly doubt the X585 is even close to a T450 in dirt work. We're talking a 60 hp, 6000+ lbs track loader with 4000 lbs tipping load. Vs a 1000 lbs garden tractor. The T450 can lift 4 X585s off the ground! Plus much stronger hydraulics and tractive effort.
How would a b2301 stack up with this pair? Local kubota place only has a 2301 and a 2650, all other tractors are sold out. The john deere place only has a couple 3 series and some big ol 5 series. Im literally between a 2301, a 1025r, or ordering a b2401 for the gear drive
Those were the tractors I narrowed down to. Check out the Messick's video that runs through the Kubota family. The B2650 was just replaced as LX. I wanted the 2650, as it's a great value, but new are sold out(forever) in my area. The B2601 is the same as aB2301,b2301, but 26 vs 23 hp. At the PTO, there's about a 2hp difference, and for this class, it'd be nice, but not a deal breaker. I'm getting b2301 next week. If you can afford a little bit more, and the slight size increase is ok , I'd go B2650.
@@scurrytom I have gone back and forth a little between the 2650 and 23/2601. I think the 2650 might be a little too big for what I need, at the same time it might be better for SOME of what i want to do. We're only on two acres for now so I dunno.
@@Will-tm5bj yep, right where I was at! Go sit on both and see. I figured I'd take the$2k savings with a B2301 and use some of that for attachments. Plus, I need to between trees. I used a John Deer 3025e (a bit bigger than 2650), and it was harder to maneuver in my trees. Good luck!
Good Works Tractors Are they comparable? I have not priced a B2601 before. I know there are prices on JD and Kubota’s websites, but that’s MSRP and, no offense, but I try to avoid talking to salesmen like I try to avoid the plague, or even COVID-19.
Bigmanbam44 Thanks! I’m up in the air. A 1025R is probably more than I need, so going even bigger and heavier for something I’m primarily going to mow with may not be the best option for me. Plus, I really like the idea of the drive over quick attach mower.
It is a very quick operation. I can change from bucket and back hoe to mower in twenty minutes total (a lot of the wasted time is just getting perfectly flat ground). I never owned a tractor before last year, and it is that quick for ME. For someone a little better versed in things will be even quicker, the mower deck on and off is really quick, as is the loader .
Don't ask me. Ask all the people who kept asking me to compare these two machines. Apparently comparing a subcompact vs subcompact isn't a fair fight 🤣🤪👍
Where would be the best spot to winch out a tractor? I have a job coming up and been weighing my options. Tractor MAY get stuck but have a SxS with a wench. Kinda scared to just snatch onto the trailer moving ball on my back 3pt

Not sure we are comparing same tractor class. But the BX series not enough tractor to the 1025R Should have the 2601 vs a 2038 tractor from John Deere cannot learn much for not matching a series tractor to the right series of a competitor.
We sure aren't, but I guess you skipped past the part when I explained why. I only made this video due to quite a few folks thinking my comparisons of the 1025r and BX weren't fair. So, compared a Kubota compact tractor to a John Deere subcompact at their request.

Yep, I agree. I did this comparison because the 1025r whipped the BX in a previous comparison. The Kubota diehards said it was unfair to compare the 1025r to the BX and I should compare against the B2601. 😂👍
In my opinion yes. Currently in the market and have sat on both. Honestly the Deere 2 series is the most comfortable in my opinion, l but I'm most likely buying a B2601 or LX2610
Good video! It hurt me watching you toss all those weights around! Here's my issue--If my 1025r 3 point lifts, let's say, 700lbs, I'm not sure how I get to the minimum ballast for the rear without filling tires and wheel weights, and then that MIGHT put us at the minimum weight of 1,055. Do you think the manual is wrong on the minimum ballast?

I will probably go with the 1025 because of having a local dealer with a pretty good price. I'd prefer the Kubota because I believe in their ruggedness and durability. There's a sentimental attachment too because my father bought a little 13 hp B series Kubota for his nursery in the late 1970s. I inherited that tractor and it was flawless for me too. I later got a bigger Kubota. Then a Deere 970 when we moved to Deere country. My Deere was a good, rugged tractor, and had no problems. Keep up the good work, Courtney. Love your channel!
I like these neutral comparisons. As one actually looks at tractor models and brands, I find that there isn’t a great deal of difference between the adjacent models. But we all know that each manufacturer tries to persuade consumers that their brand is just a little bit better or a little more premium than the competitions. But when we get to see the differences between not only brands, but models then we can actually determine which tractor most nearly meets the jobs we need to accomplish. Whether it is just hauling a few bags of mulch to lifting a pallet full of bags of concrete. However, for every added feature, pound of lift, increase in PTO horse power, more comfort, and heavier implements there is a cost increase in both the tool hauler (tractor) and the implements. While a Deere 5 series or a Kubota M series might give one more than enough power and weight to do everything one might want. It would still be useless if it was to big to turn around on your property or if you didn’t have money left over for the implements you need. This was a very good and informative comparison. Hopefully, there will be other opportunities for you to continue stair stepping up the ladder. Another very well thought out presentation. Great job.

I’m also very impressed with the Deere 1025 as well but I think it probably fits between the Kubota BX and the standard B. I’d guess the Deere 2 series is probably a better match to the B2650, which is a larger tractor than the B2601. Regardless, I’m looking forward to hear your thoughts.

I've already compared 1025r vs BX. This comparison has been repeatedly requested, so that's why I did it. CLEAR WINNER? JOHN DEERE 1025R VS KUBOTA BX23S TRACTORS! 🚜
So the strap is still in a location around the bucket that is measuring right at the SSQA-which may be a bit different than inside the bucket. I’d like to see this test using pallet forks. You could even adjust the strap up and down the tines to get an accurate measurement at different distances from the pin.

The 2025R is probably even more comparable to a B2601 but the 1025R & 2025R aren't that different (not different enough IMHO) either although an in depth comparison of them would be nice too. I do like the size of the 2025R & B2601 vs. the 1025R but don't want to lost the maneuverability. On the other hand, a 2038R isn't much bigger & is SO much more capable. Tough decision.

The way you bend your lower back when picking up those weights really scares me buddy. Especially for a tall guy, you can easily injure yourself. Lift with your legs, never your back. Keep your low back straight. Excellent video as always.

small tool box is stock on the B2601. The deck lowering if you set the dial to TOP when the deck is up it will stay up. :)

The boot cover on the front of the Kabota is very common I’ve done several of them on my 2301.

In my opinion, a more equitable match-up to the Kubota B2601 would be the JD 2025R.
The BX2680 is more of an equivalent to the JD 1025R.

Good question. Not sure, but the X Series loader is pretty pathetic in my opinion. Beats a wheelbarrow is about it.
@@GoodWorksTractors Hmm... so far I am impressed with X585 with 45 fel find. I moved 20 tons of fill in a day. I like your channel good info on compact tractors. The one thing the skid steer excels at is being able to watch the front edge of the bucket for grading and cutting.
I have lots of experience on skid steers, I have run a small T450 Bobcat and I must say the X585 is almost as good. The 450 has more power and break out force on the bucket. But I adapted my running style to get the most out of the 585. It would be interesting to try a 1025R with its more weight and stronger hydraulics. The tractor doesn't tear up the ground like skid steer.
@@KirtH27 I highly doubt the X585 is even close to a T450 in dirt work. We're talking a 60 hp, 6000+ lbs track loader with 4000 lbs tipping load. Vs a 1000 lbs garden tractor. The T450 can lift 4 X585s off the ground! Plus much stronger hydraulics and tractive effort.

How would a b2301 stack up with this pair? Local kubota place only has a 2301 and a 2650, all other tractors are sold out. The john deere place only has a couple 3 series and some big ol 5 series.
Im literally between a 2301, a 1025r, or ordering a b2401 for the gear drive
Those were the tractors I narrowed down to. Check out the Messick's video that runs through the Kubota family. The B2650 was just replaced as LX. I wanted the 2650, as it's a great value, but new are sold out(forever) in my area. The B2601 is the same as aB2301,b2301, but 26 vs 23 hp. At the PTO, there's about a 2hp difference, and for this class, it'd be nice, but not a deal breaker. I'm getting b2301 next week. If you can afford a little bit more, and the slight size increase is ok , I'd go B2650.
@@scurrytom I have gone back and forth a little between the 2650 and 23/2601. I think the 2650 might be a little too big for what I need, at the same time it might be better for SOME of what i want to do. We're only on two acres for now so I dunno.
@@Will-tm5bj yep, right where I was at! Go sit on both and see. I figured I'd take the$2k savings with a B2301 and use some of that for attachments. Plus, I need to between trees. I used a John Deer 3025e (a bit bigger than 2650), and it was harder to maneuver in my trees. Good luck!

Good Works Tractors Are they comparable? I have not priced a B2601 before. I know there are prices on JD and Kubota’s websites, but that’s MSRP and, no offense, but I try to avoid talking to salesmen like I try to avoid the plague, or even COVID-19.

Bigmanbam44 Thanks! I’m up in the air. A 1025R is probably more than I need, so going even bigger and heavier for something I’m primarily going to mow with may not be the best option for me. Plus, I really like the idea of the drive over quick attach mower.
It is a very quick operation. I can change from bucket and back hoe to mower in twenty minutes total (a lot of the wasted time is just getting perfectly flat ground). I never owned a tractor before last year, and it is that quick for ME. For someone a little better versed in things will be even quicker, the mower deck on and off is really quick, as is the loader .
Compact verses subcompact how does that work. clearly a different set up tractor. Thanks Larry

cannot learn much for not matching a series tractor to the right series of a competitor.
We sure aren't, but I guess you skipped past the part when I explained why. I only made this video due to quite a few folks thinking my comparisons of the 1025r and BX weren't fair. So, compared a Kubota compact tractor to a John Deere subcompact at their request.

Confused at 2:30 in the video it sure looks like the 1025 Rops is at least 8-10 inches taller than the Kubota is it really only 1" difference??

Best optical illusion i have ever seen no way those are 1" difference unless the kubota you are showing is a different model tractor. Great video though.

Yep, I agree. I did this comparison because the 1025r whipped the BX in a previous comparison. The Kubota diehards said it was unfair to compare the 1025r to the BX and I should compare against the B2601. 😂👍

The boot cover on the front of the Kabota is very common I’ve done several of them on my 2301.

In my opinion yes. Currently in the market and have sat on both. Honestly the Deere 2 series is the most comfortable in my opinion, l but I'm most likely buying a B2601 or LX2610

Good video! It hurt me watching you toss all those weights around! Here's my issue--If my 1025r 3 point lifts, let's say, 700lbs, I'm not sure how I get to the minimum ballast for the rear without filling tires and wheel weights, and then that MIGHT put us at the minimum weight of 1,055. Do you think the manual is wrong on the minimum ballast?

Thanks so much for this comparison! I am a new subscriber so haven't asked for it like others, but it is exactly the comparison I am making right now. I will probably go with the 1025 because of having a local dealer with a pretty good price. I'd prefer the Kubota because I believe in their ruggedness and durability.
There's a sentimental attachment too because my father bought a little 13 hp B series Kubota for his nursery in the late 1970s. I inherited that tractor and it was flawless for me too. I later got a bigger Kubota. Then a Deere 970 when we moved to Deere country. My Deere was a good, rugged tractor, and had no problems.

I like these neutral comparisons. As one actually looks at tractor models and brands, I find that there isn’t a great deal of difference between the adjacent models. But we all know that each manufacturer tries to persuade consumers that their brand is just a little bit better or a little more premium than the competitions. But when we get to see the differences between not only brands, but models then we can actually determine which tractor most nearly meets the jobs we need to accomplish. Whether it is just hauling a few bags of mulch to lifting a pallet full of bags of concrete. However, for every added feature, pound of lift, increase in PTO horse power, more comfort, and heavier implements there is a cost increase in both the tool hauler (tractor) and the implements. While a Deere 5 series or a Kubota M series might give one more than enough power and weight to do everything one might want. It would still be useless if it was to big to turn around on your property or if you didn’t have money left over for the implements you need. This was a very good and informative comparison. Hopefully, there will be other opportunities for you to continue stair stepping up the ladder. Another very well thought out presentation. Great job.

I’m anxious to see part 2. I own a B2601 and really like it. I’m also very impressed with the Deere 1025 as well but I think it probably fits between the Kubota BX and the standard B. I’d guess the Deere 2 series is probably a better match to the B2650, which is a larger tractor than the B2601.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to hear your thoughts.

So the strap is still in a location around the bucket that is measuring right at the SSQA-which may be a bit different than inside the bucket. I’d like to see this test using pallet forks. You could even adjust the strap up and down the tines to get an accurate measurement at different distances from the pin.
Seems the better comparison, & I know you don't always have the luxury of having the optimal, would be a 2025R vs. B2601.
I did this comparison at the request of numerous folks thinking this was more accurate than the 1025r vs BX that I previously compared.
@@GoodWorksTractors I agree there. I thought I wanted a BX until I saw the comparisons. The 2025R is probably even more comparable to a B2601 but the 1025R & 2025R aren't that different (not different enough IMHO) either although an in depth comparison of them would be nice too. I do like the size of the 2025R & B2601 vs. the 1025R but don't want to lost the maneuverability. On the other hand, a 2038R isn't much bigger & is SO much more capable. Tough decision.
interesting.. /you forgot, the Mid Mower was still attached, So @ the end, it was also lifting the 300+lb mower AS WELL as the stuff on the hitch

The way you bend your lower back when picking up those weights really scares me buddy. Especially for a tall guy, you can easily injure yourself. Lift with your legs, never your back. Keep your low back straight. Excellent video as always.
