I'm sure that all subcompact owners sooner or later think about upgrading, I was thinking the same thing a year ago. But when came time to trade in the dealership wanted to beat me up on fair price. 40 hrs on my 1025. They said it was easier to sell new because financing is better. So I kept it. Bought a bigger tractor for the bigger jobs. It wasn't green either, a 40 hp cab tractor with heat and air conditioning. I wish it was green but 12 k cheaper.
So I was watching, chuckling about you saying taking the long way home... and boom all of a sudden I recognized the dealer you drive by. We must be neighbors! I've driven past that dealer many of times. Thanks for posting.
Merry Christmas to ya. Just wanted to say that I'm constantly on the same merry-go-round. I drive threw the dealership at least once a month (on Sunday so there's no chance of a purchase).
I love my 1025r and don't really find its capabilities limiting me. However, if I was going to go bigger I would go Kubota. Anything above the subcompacts Kubota gives you a lot more for the money. I believe the standard L has more capacity for less money than the 2032 and 2038. It is more of an economy oriented tractor but is by no means cheapy built. It also weighs around 500lbs more which is an advantage in most situations.
@marvinjackson2641 pick a side ? You must be a politician? Haha I have a Kubota, my father has a Deere. I have a android and my wife has an iPhone. Imagine a fairytale world where little shit like color and brands don't mean anything?
Merry Christmas! ...I just took delivery in November of the Duke (2038r) with BH,Loader, 60D with command cut and fork lifts. I was at first looking at the 1025r, but after looking at what I needed (lift capacity with loader), I stepped up to 2 series. I had two top requirements. First Wife had to be able to take that deck off and back on, and I had to be able to move pallets of hardwood around my shop. When we went to pick it up, the wife was fine with the tractor. Deck is no issue and easy on/off. Operation was easy and she even took the BH on/off. So easy. I have to say JD really takes operation into account Tractor time with Tim first turned me on to the 2038r. Have to admit nice nice tractor so much power. Downside its bigger than I anticipated. With the tall rops it has to be folded down to fit in garage, but it does fit. It would figure right after I bought at 60months 0%, they came out with 84 0%. Cheers!

That 3038R tractor does look nice and I have a 3032E tractor and love it, and also have a 790 tractor which I got new also and love it also. My 3032E came with a front loader on it and that was the main reason I bought it since I already had other implements which I use on my 790 and now I use the other implements with my 3032E except the brush hog which I keep on my 790. The other implements are for the newest tractor and they seem to be perfect for me.
Great comparison. Trying to decide between the two models. The 2038R seems so much bigger but it's really not yet the capabilities are so much greater.
The best feature on my 1025R is the twin touch pedals, along with maneuverability. I have tried the Kubota treadle pedal - so difficult to use. Also my older 1026R had a ROPS that folded out of the way, must be some safety reason why my new 1025R does not fold down out of the way. Don't disconnect the safety PTO switch, touching that switch makes you think before you back up with the PTO on.
@@bkrfrenchies4455 All depends on your property, I use mine with loader on a wooded 1.25 acre lot, (picking up limbs and storm damage) long gravel drive way (needs grading) landscaping projects, mulch, move dirt, moving trailer around, etc. etc. I don't mow with it. Plus when I get ready to sell it, I will get most of my cost back. People always looking for a tractor like this, especially a John Deere, best resale value.
Here’s to wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas I am the proud owner of a 2038R and now have 223 hours on it and from my experience it has actually out performed my expectations The only complaint I have is the cost of everything “green” I was looking to get a backhoe but the dealer said around $8000.00 so this is out of my budget lol. I can rent an excavator if I need to a lot of times for that kind of money lol. I really believe the tractor will do anything you will need it to do though so good luck in the decision making procedure
A Tale of Three Cabins yes it is most times. Another thing I wanted to add was the single lever hydraulic hose hook up for my bucket but they wanted $800 dollars so I figured getting off the tractor and un coupling the 4 hoses wasn’t that bad lol
I'd buy a 2038R tomorrow if they put a damn cab option on them like they need to! Deere is really missing the boat on not having a factory cab on that tractor!
I was going to get the 2038r before I bought the 1025r I decide on the 1025r because of the size difference I mow with mine and did not want to cut all the lower branches off of my trees and I have a tight spot between some arborvitaes and a grape row that the 2038r would have at a later date not fit thru. I was also shocked at the price difference between the 2 I am definitely glad I went with the 1025r it has all the power I need and I don’t have to put DEF in it and carry special insurance on it when I travel with it. ( anything over 25 horse) I am shocked at all I can do with the 1025r I was even hired to grade the road down by the lake and it does a great job with that.
Tom, you cited lifting capacity of the front loader as being one of your limitations and concerns with the 1025r. I’m in a similar situation, but recently bought a set of dedicated forks which changed my perspective. I would encourage you to do the same instead of the ones clamped onto the bucket. The load will be back closer to the B-pin and therefore your capacity will increase. If you’re really looking for lightweight, the Artillian set is probably the lightest; that said, I went with the least expensive Titan 36”, and couldn’t be happier.
I've gone back an forth with which brand of forks. How heavy are your Titans? I know John Deere's are pretty light around 170lbs and they cost just under $600.
They’re pretty heavy, but I haven’t actually weighed them. I was able to get them for $385, so I figured I could probably cut a bit of excess material out of them to save some weight. They’re made for much higher lifting capacity than the 1025, so they’re very overbuilt for our application.
I love my Forks. I bought the 48” and they are too long sometimes but I keep them on more than the bucket. Great for mowing around other equipment and things in the pasture field. I can just scoop things up with the forks and move them to mow under them. I also made a pallet box I use for a carry all on the front.
Since I haven't accepted delivery (or even paid for the 1025r) I could easily upgrade, but the minus is too big to ignore. The 2038 definitely won't fit in my garage. Squeezing in the 1025r was already enough of a challenge. Yep, the 1025r and I will become lifelong friends.
I feel your pain. So many options. No matter what you do please get a set of actual forks. You're not saving anything in the weight dept. by the time you add the bucket weight and fork extensions. And worse, you're weight is so far out front the small tilt cylinders are screaming for dear life and you will need a lot more counterweight to offset the forces having the weight so far out front. This is true no matter which tractor you end up with. Me personally I would go with the 2032R. Same lift capacities on both ends. Unless you think you need more PTO hp, you will run out of traction LONG before you run out of power with either the 2032 or 2038 and will be able to save a chunk of money at the sale as well as the fuel pump .......... take care and hope you find the rig you need.
Thank you for the input. I usually take a lot in and take much time to ponder on a decision like this. All good points to help me. On the forks side of it I did make the change: th-cam.com/video/GwmHIQLiuYY/w-d-xo.html
What else is new when it comes to a man's toys . LOL . Bigger , better , stronger more power . You got me sold on the 2038r and I don't even need a tractor . 1,000 lbs. heavier ... shouldn't have a problem with your truck and trailer . Hate to think what the better half would say if you had to up grade your truck and trailer . Merry Christmas .
You could also just upgraded the hydraulic systems in order to increase the flow rate - and then increase the system psi. The process is plug and play and takes about 90 minutes from start to finish. The components on the 1025r are all rated to 3000psi. No idea on the Big 2 series systems; I would imagine they are spec'd the same unless there is some pressing reason for them to alter the high range.
Thank you for your review on these differences. Could you please do a similar explanation on the 3025 E and the upgraded 3025D series?? About 18 months ago I bought a 3025 e, what little bit I've learned , i now wished I'd have waited another 12 months they came out with the D series. I know they are available in the Shuttle Shift transmission. Which wasn't available for the e series. I prefer the gear transmission over the Hydrostatic. Maybe oneday i can upgrade. Thanks for the video.
What do you think in like about the John Deere 2038r tractor. I'm looking to upgrade my John Deere 2025r tractor. Want to get the 2038r tractor with cab
I think the 38r is a very nice upgrade. I’ve seriously looked into it as a second tractor. The main reason is I could still use all my loader and 3pt attachments.
Did you upgrade to proper forks? Cause those 1025R bucket forks had to be killing your lift capacity.... That is the biggest issue for me as well...But the boulders I want to lift probably need a skid loader at 2K lift or better.
No matter what you buy, green or orange the best money you can spend on a subcompact or compact tractor is WHEEL SPACERS!!!!!. IT WILL MAKE IT SO MUCH SAFER from tipping over
Are you happy with the 2038R? Why not go with the 3033R instead of the 2038R? There's only about a thousand dollar difference between the two but the 3 series has substantially better hydraulics (13.9gpm vs 9.3) the loader can lift 478 lbs more, and the 3PH can lift 838 lbs more. None of the JD dealers near me carry 2 series for that reason. Why spend almost the same amount of $$ for so much lower capabilities vs the 3 series?
2 reasons for considering the 2 series over the 3 for me personally. First I have about $12,000 in attachments that would still work on the 2 series, but probably not practical or advisable to use on a 3 series. The second is my 20' trailer is rated for 7,000 pound including the trailer weight. A three series would probably require a trailer upgrade.
One attachment I still have not looked into. It would be overkill for me as a rider can handle our yard at half the price of a MMM. I have more grass in Southern Ohio, but very hilly, so I opt for a rider there too.
