I have a "Saladmaster" from the 1950s or 1960s and the "feet" on the legs have suction cups. It could be the legs on this salad maker should also suction, but the rubber is old and brittle.
My Mother in law had one of these. She would always use it when she made her cole slaw. The cabbage was shredded very fine. She would just fill the hopper as full as she could get it, closed the lid, and shredded the daylights out of it! ❤️
You inspired me to start my channel: The 1940’s Housewife! You are an inspiration, and I love that you’re down to earth, honest, and real. Keep up the amazing, binge-worthy content!
@@YesterdayTodayTribute thank you so much! I am filming and editing like crazy! I’m hoping to get the gorgeous lighting and clear filming that Laci has! Xoxo
My mom had one and I have one as well! I always grab them at thrift stores when I find them. Usually a 70s version of them. The best cheese grater ever! I also use it to shred carrots and potatoes.
Consider this a rotary box grater. If you can't do it on a box grater - like chopping - it's not going to happen on a Mouli either. But what it can do like shredding carrots, cabbage, cheeses it does excellently and faster than a box grater. And no knuckle blood in your salad either. Tips: Don't hurt yourself bearing down on the hopper handle. All that does is make it harder to rotate the blade. It certainly won't make the Mouli work better. When doing cabbage fill the hopper with several pieces to keep them in place for most of the shredding. You can make the cabbage pieces taller than the hopper but not much. If you are going to get one: The originals, both metal and plastic body, come with 5 discs. If a seller isn't showing the discs chances are there is a reason. I think the white version only comes with 3, and a new non-Mouli out there definitely comes with just 3. Get one with 5 discs. And make sure it has feet and they are in good condition. Love mine. Haven't used a box grater since I bought it.
Your hair!! Strawberry blonde!!! Love it!! Team Marilyn and Team Lana Turner! 🥰 That salad maker is a fun vintage gadget, but kinda temperamental. I do remember the salad shooter. It was hard to clean and not worth the trouble. Good to see you again Lacy Fay. Stay safe and well.
Hi Laci, I thought there was something different about you. Pretty hair color, but I really love you in the red hair 🥰 Loving your outfit. It has a Fall vibe. 🍁Love when you try out these vintage gadgets 😊 So fun to see how they were used and cool that you have the original box as well. 💕
Love the blonde hair! And yes, I had a Salad Shooter. I wore it out and found another on eBay because they were no longer manufactured. Looks like they're back in style. Saw them on Amazon. Now I do everything by hand or use a food processor. Fun video and recipe! :)

Oh my goodness! I had total recall when you pulled this kitchen gadget out. My Grandma and I struggled using the same brand and even Grandpa tried to make it work. It was a failure. We had a great laugh. Thanks for the memories.
OHMIGOSH! I have been looking for this forever! I thought it was for cheese because that is what my mom used it for! It was the fastest and most efficient way of grating cheese I've ever found. I kept on searching online for this this machine but with no luck. Thank you for sharing this! I'm so excited to finally find this!
hi! if you place a damp towel underneath the hardened rubber feet, it will keep the gadget from sliding around while you twist the handle. thanks for the video. love seeing these vintage pieces breathing new life!
I bought one of those around 1990. The base unit was plastic, but everything else was the same. It worked really well, but my hands are small, so I could grate only small pieces at a time. My huge-handed hubby, however, could crank out heaps of even tougher carrots in seconds, as fast as an electric food processor without the worry of over-chopping or the irritating noise. It very much depends on how much pressure you can exert with that thumb over the back of the handle.
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor I'm glad I found this channel. It's nice to see things from a different time. If I had my own home or apartment I would try to get the appliances at least. They seem to work much better

I love that you keep your look fresh and keep evolving! Can’t wait to see where you go with it in the future, I’m sure it will be amazing! And yeah…that gadget is…something…isn’t it lol
I had one of those but I traded it for the orange plastic one which is a little bit bigger. I have used it for years, for cabbage, carrots, potatoes and cheese. There is a learning curve to cutting and loading, but i love it because cleanup is so easy. I just put it under running water, and set somewhere to dry. I have never used the discs with the fine holes.
My mom had one when I was growing up. I loved it and bought my own from an antique store back in the 80's and used it all the time to shred cheese. Now that I'm in my 60's I buy my cheese already shredded. But I still have my Mouli.
That is the gadget we have in our cupboard! OMG ! we used to grate cheese that way! i love that thing!!! we had to press a bit firmly and make sure it was flush .. you might get non slip thingys for the feet
My grandmother had the mouli, I had totally forgotten. I used to help her in the kitchen. It was a big pain to use. The handle would hit my hand. You did a really good job with it.
I remember back in the 1970s (UK) my mum having a device that took the skins off the potatoes, it was a bowl covered in small rough bits and you attached a pipe to your tap, the force of the water turned the inside of the bowl around and the rough bits scratched the skins of the potatoes off, 🐝❤️another great video x
Mrs Shell in jr high came back to class every Monday with a new hair color. My favorite was her red. She had perfect skin color for a red head just like yours. All her students had fun speculating what Monday's color was going to be. Who knew there were sooo many shades. Great memories. I like how this device straddled the vintage plate 👍.

Yeah miracle whip is salad dressing but I would just use the mayonnaise and if it's really tangy just put a little bit of sugar in there that counteracts at some
The blades remind me of the ones for my kitchen aid food processor. I have to admit these gadgets really show us how much more they had to work in the kitchen(what a workout). Definitely not one of the cutest gadgets from the past either. LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!

Great demo. I do remember the salad shooter. My mom had one. This one is like gadgets you buy then use them a few times and find it is quicker and easier to do manually. We all get them. My hubby and I are suckers for the “As seen in TV “ stuff. I few winners, especially things for kitties 🐱, but most other things, not so much. 😳🙄🤣 Have a wonderful day Laci. I like the blonde on you, but red is amazing too.
for something that's been sitting on a shelf for years it works pretty good, I BOUGHT A NEW SLICER FROM AMAZON OVER 30.00 DOLLARS TO SLICE THIN CHEESE , NEVER WORKED A PLASTIC PIECE OF JUNK, THINGS WERE BETTER MADE YEARS AGO, I STILL HAVE A MIXER MY AUNT GAVE ME FROM THE 1950'S WORKS GREAT AND I USE IT EVERY WEEK, LOVED THE VIDEO, THANK YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE CLOTHES SHOPPING STAY SAFE AND WELL. Salad Master Brand had the best manual hand crank slicer /shredder. I had one and used it for many years..they also had great cookware. You can still buy the cookware today…but the old stuff was the bomb. I still have and use the electric skillet that they made…could make the best fried chicken with no oil at all.
LOVE your hair color! It looks natural, which is always my favorite. Looks beautiful. Cole slaw is a favorite of mine. I don't like carrot in mine so only use enough for color. It's easy to screw up cole slaw. I like it creamy, easy on the vinegar. Pinch of sugar. Cabbage needs to be finely shredded. I like plenty of white pepper. It's a basic recipe but really good slaw can be elusive. : )
We have one of these!!! Found it at the goodwill several years ago! Works great-but there is some evidence whoever had it last put the blades in upside down… had to bend the edges back out on some discs…
