I, just recently, painstakingly cut out an Aquila in negative I’m some chip board for sponge painting through as a stencil; with a similar purpose in mind. The VO, both in philosophical content and in tone reminds me of why I love this hobby and have done for 25-ish years. It allows me to focus, relax, and create something from nothing. It allows me to play pretend and escape whatever happens to be ailing me in the moment. Thank you.

a cheap resin printer is a great investment. NOT for printing whole buildings but for printing details, computers , chairs , control panels , doors signs the list in endless. It also can save you money in the long run, 150 pounds will get you a basic printer and some resin. 150 pound will buy a surprising small bag computers , chairs , control panels etc everything you print beyond that is gravy :)
Been on the fence for a while about 3d printers - kinda waiting for 4k to become reliable/affordable i guess. For griblies and parts it seems fantastic but I also fear I would enjoy it too much and not having one forces me to come up with creative solutions to problems if that makes sense. Basically I'm delaying the inevitable haha 😄
I’ve been watching a few of your videos lately. Your modelling work is excellent, but your real skill is your ability to look at every day objects and see a use for it. How many of us will have thrown away a Quality Street lid without a thought? But to you it’s a great bit of terrain. Keep up the good work.

Dude, I"m beyond impressed! The techniques you used for the landing lights, and the screens on the computer especially just made me keep saying "wow" and "damn" over and over lol. Off the thumbnail, before I watched it I was like "Now how's he going to run those lights?" I think that's about the best compliment I can give this piece lol. Oh, that's how! I learned SO much from watching this. I'm good at imagining the structure of a thing, and envisioning what different little greebly pieces can be used for what, and where. Where I fall short is the final finishing. Adding the realism, and patina. You've got that down cold, and the methods you use, seem so simple, and obvious to me. I think I am going to learn a lot from your videos. I'm glad to have found you. Perhaps I won't spell any better, or use more proper grammar, but nobody's perfect lol. I could always do this thing "proofread" but pfft... nah... I'm American, we ain't got time for that!

That is Quality (Street). I have spent a year trying to find Granny Grading in the UK, I knew what it was but could never remember the English name for it so thank you for that and the candy paint is a great tip. With Wyloch on a break it is good to hear he is still an important influence.
Thanks for this. I am planning a similar one to match the octagonal buildings and bio-dome I made some years ago. I particularly like your lights. For sticking the bamboo, I think you might find PVA a little more maneuverable than hot glue.
Hey Graham thanks for watching. Appreciate the feedback, of course pva is the way to go and using, I guess my thinking was there are a lot of stairs to glue and waiting for each step with pva would have tripled the time. All one big experiment though haha. Good luck with you project!
one trick i saw for spraying straight lines for something like lights was having a strip of cardboard or cardstock to catch excess paint. aside from that, this terrain piece is awesome; especially for an imperium aircraft model!

Its a material called grafix-pad. Its a high density cardboard you might find in the back of a pad of paper. But you can order it direct in bulk from Amazon. I think I got a block of 25 sheets if I remember. Great stuff to work with. Then I used some diamond plated sheet material I picked up from my local hobby store a while back.
I got mine from Model world Ltd after a Google search. I know Greenstuff world do it also. The exact listing was "diamond plate 1:48 O scale. Not the cheapest and mine did have one or two slight imperfections in the pattern but way she goes right? Hope that helps.
I'd like to suggest fingernail polish/enamel because of the variety of colors & finishes like glow in the dark, glitter, metallic, jelly (which looks like colored light bulb when painted over metal). I just don't want you to pay ridiculous prices for some paints and pigments that are much cheaper when marketed as nail art products. There's even the chrome & duo-chrome powders that could work on certain surfaces to chrome them. Again... please list products you use.
This is awesome! I love it! What material did you use for the metal flooring? It is really effective, especially with the washes and dry brushed silver! I also LOVE the lighting effect using the airbrush! Something I will definitely try in the future! I want to have a go at building something similar now!

Hi, wonderful video and great talent, just the kind of inspiration I need. Please I would like to know how you manage the adhesion of the paint on the plastics which are not specially designed to be painted? Personally, for recalcitrant plastics, I sometimes sand them very lightly before painting them or passing them a thin layer of acetone to create a grip but there is probably better to do. Greetings.
Thank you for your kind words. And yeah sanding the surface a little, or anything that gives the surface a little 'tooth'. One thing that also really helps is washing them in a little detergent as this can remove any surface oils which can prevent adhesion. Finally, a good primer will work wonders. I use car primer which acts as a 1st layer and gives any subsequent paint something to stick too. Best of luck with your projects 👍👍
You call putting the wash on after doing the lights on the main pad a mistake but I would call it a happy accident because it made the diffusion of the light in the center look better to me because when you went back you didn't go as close to the center and was not as bright. To me it looked more natural to the light effect. I will be doing this to my art
Cheers man. I measured 1cm squares from my cutting mat on each length and left a little excess at each end so I could trim the ends to fit to the first step would look right. Hope that makes some sense? And yeah 40k scale. Appreciate the kind words and more videos in the way soon
One like minded person on TH-cam you may want to check out is "Cut Transform Glue." He's from Brazil and creates some amazing things. This is the first video I have seen of yours and I like it. The bolts in the corners of the pad aren't a bad shape but, I thought some sort of LED in those places as a sort of marker would go a long way.

@@creativecuts7803 I don't know what sort of things you can get there and with the lock down but, I pick up cheap things from the dollar store. You can take them apart and use the LEDs and just add wire etc. The possiblities are endless.
The UK equivalent of a dollar is one of my favourite place to browse for materials but unfortunately we are only allowed to leave the house for exercise at the moment in the UK. All shops are closed. Getting what I can from the supermarket and online shopping but there is nothing like holding something in your hand for real. But no problem, it has forced me to become much more creative at home haha. Thanks again

If so just a couple of cheap swing arm lamps from IKEA with daylight bulbs and tracing paper clipped over to act as a diffuser at home and in my art studio there are large overhead leds. Colour choice aside, would you have coinsidered painting the domenuts the same colour as the candy spray, or it is a metal cover with a small slit effect you were going for?
I just got carried away to be honest. In hindsight I probably would have masked the rear half of the domenuts to create a kind of uplighter. But alas, building for youtube means hindsight is distant memory. All I try to do is learn from that reflection and continue to improve in the next videos.

Thanks man and glad I was source of inspiration to you. For burn or scrotched marks - basically carbon deposits - could be built up with blacks and browns and an airbrush is definitely one way of achieving this. Candy paints work best with white underneath so I would go with regular acrylic paint. Another way is to use a lighter and hold the piece upside down and gently lick the flame against the surface. You will get a real carbon deposit and if it goes wrong you can always wipe it off because there will not be a chemical bond with the paint beneath. However, please take care if using fire!

You can buy diamond plate plastic sheets from most good modelling stores - also brickwork re your previous comment if you don't fancy building it. I cant remember exactly where I got mine from - either ebay or direct from some of the modelling stores I regularly get my supplies from. But should be that difficult to find 👍

I'm guessing you mean the height? In this case the height of everything wasn't fixed so I built the stairs first and then matched the platform height to the stairs at the desired angle if that makes sense. Also I saved cutting in the 45 degree cuts at the top and bottom of the stairs so I could further match the size to the platform. There is probably an easier way but since you asked haha. Haha that's why I love people's different opinions. I thought about painting it on directly but wanted some of the thin edge to catch the 'spotlights' a little. Of course there is no right way of doing it. I guess just what feels right to you. Thanks for the imput though. Always appreciated.

Thank you for your kind words. And yeah sanding the surface a little, or anything that gives the surface a little 'tooth'. One thing that also really helps is washing them in a little detergent as this can remove any surface oils which can prevent adhesion. Finally, a good primer will work wonders. I use car primer which acts as a 1st layer and gives any subsequent paint something to stick too. Best of luck with your projects 👍👍

You call putting the wash on after doing the lights on the main pad a mistake but I would call it a happy accident because it made the diffusion of the light in the center look better to me because when you went back you didn't go as close to the center and was not as bright. To me it looked more natural to the light effect. I will be doing this to my art

Since you stuck the aquila on, I'm guessing it's now 40k scale. How do you make sure the stairs have the right gap between steps?
Cheers man. I measured 1cm squares from my cutting mat on each length and left a little excess at each end so I could trim the ends to fit to the first step would look right. Hope that makes some sense? And yeah 40k scale. Appreciate the kind words and more videos in the way soon
One like minded person on TH-cam you may want to check out is "Cut Transform Glue." He's from Brazil and creates some amazing things. This is the first video I have seen of yours and I like it. The bolts in the corners of the pad aren't a bad shape but, I thought some sort of LED in those places as a sort of marker would go a long way.

@@creativecuts7803 I don't know what sort of things you can get there and with the lock down but, I pick up cheap things from the dollar store. You can take them apart and use the LEDs and just add wire etc. The possiblities are endless.
The UK equivalent of a dollar is one of my favourite place to browse for materials but unfortunately we are only allowed to leave the house for exercise at the moment in the UK. All shops are closed. Getting what I can from the supermarket and online shopping but there is nothing like holding something in your hand for real. But no problem, it has forced me to become much more creative at home haha. Thanks again

Thanks for your kind words. I'm not sure i fully understand your question. Are you asking what lighting I use? If so just a couple of cheap swing arm lamps from IKEA with daylight bulbs and tracing paper clipped over to act as a diffuser at home and in my art studio there are large overhead leds. I think I got them from green stuff world. They are most known for their putty but they also do some other great modelling bits and pieces

Colour choice aside, would you have coinsidered painting the domenuts the same colour as the candy spray, or it is a metal cover with a small slit effect you were going for?
I just got carried away to be honest. In hindsight I probably would have masked the rear half of the domenuts to create a kind of uplighter. But alas, building for youtube means hindsight is distant memory. All I try to do is learn from that reflection and continue to improve in the next videos.

Thanks man and glad I was source of inspiration to you. For burn or scrotched marks - basically carbon deposits - could be built up with blacks and browns and an airbrush is definitely one way of achieving this. Candy paints work best with white underneath so I would go with regular acrylic paint. Another way is to use a lighter and hold the piece upside down and gently lick the flame against the surface. You will get a real carbon deposit and if it goes wrong you can always wipe it off because there will not be a chemical bond with the paint beneath. However, please take care if using fire!

I got mine from Model world Ltd after a Google search. I know Greenstuff world do it also. The exact listing was "diamond plate 1:48 O scale. Not the cheapest and mine did have one or two slight imperfections in the pattern but way she goes right? Hope that helps.

You can buy diamond plate plastic sheets from most good modelling stores - also brickwork re your previous comment if you don't fancy building it. I cant remember exactly where I got mine from - either ebay or direct from some of the modelling stores I regularly get my supplies from. But should be that difficult to find 👍

I'm guessing you mean the height? In this case the height of everything wasn't fixed so I built the stairs first and then matched the platform height to the stairs at the desired angle if that makes sense. Also I saved cutting in the 45 degree cuts at the top and bottom of the stairs so I could further match the size to the platform. There is probably an easier way but since you asked haha. The only criticism i have is that it wouldve been better to paint the eagle on the pad instead of having it raised.
Haha that's why I love people's different opinions. I thought about painting it on directly but wanted some of the thin edge to catch the 'spotlights' a little. Of course there is no right way of doing it. I guess just what feels right to you. Thanks for the imput though. Always appreciated.
