Affordable is a realtive term! There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that I could afford even this one. But compared to other silicone tails it is MUCH more affordable. They are beautiful!
I wonder how durable the lighter silicon will be. They also look a bit like fabric tails under water (I like fabric tails). Personally my favorite is the light one, colors look nice together
Definitely fooled me I was sure the darker tail was yours. But I love the one you picked more. You got so many dark devil may cry tails and I love the mergoth aesthetic, idk just good to change things up once in awhile
Hehehe! Sorry about that! 🤭🖤 You're right! Honestly, it was really hard for me NOT to go with a darker tail. However, my sister picked out a theme for our tails that I just couldn't refuse. So here I am in white and green 😂🖤
These look cool! I'm so happy that you're expanding your business. I'm so excited for you. Maybe once I get my financials under control I can support this venture. Until then, I wish you all the luck.
Thank you! The colors were inspired by Sima Zhao's outfit colors from Dynasty Warriors 7. My sister likes Sima Shi and his colors (she has always been a blue and black girl), so even though I'm more of a Sima Yi fan, she begged me to do a "sibling" tail so I could be the Sima Zhao to her Sima Shi. We play too many video games. 😂🤭🖤
The food grade is what gets me. Remember the fairytails Bangkok incident with food grade silicone? The huge open bottom flukes seem like a major safety hazard as well. And I feel like if you sit on that fin accidentally it’s going to rip right off
I've heard that those tails were not good, but not about what they are made of. This material is very durable from what I've experienced. The manufacturer has been selling these in Asia since 2021 and they have been very popular. I myself have used the two tails a *lot* throughout the summer and have intentionally roughed them up (zebra mussel exposure, "rock climbing " and dry land event on cement). They've held up beautifully! While I cannot speak much on their long-term durability other than what the factory manager has told me about, I can say that I am very impressed so far. As far as the fluke being a safety hazard, I'm not sure I understand why. It shuts underwater, as seen in the video. It is only a problem visually from certain angles. I just finished filming a video talking about the pros and the cons of the tails. You're welcome to check it out when it is posted. In truth, I know that people will be hesitant to try these and suspicious of them. Therefore, I am working very hard to expose all of their positive aspects along with their negative qualities to ensure that people can make informed decisions about whether they would like to get one or not. At the end of the day, the decision is each individual person's to make - I can only share my experiences and knowledge of the tails.
@@TheMagicCrafter the giant open fluke allows for the user to put whatever monofin they want inside or none at all. If someone who doesn’t have knowledge of monofins puts in say a Finfun it won’t have enough power and the extra silicone will create drag causing a dangerous situation. People could also attempt to make their own homemade monofins that fit inside which is very dangerous. I’ve found through teaching tail safety that people often don’t read descriptions or consider risks. So I try to look at things from every angle to be able to spot anything that could be a hazard.
@HaleyTheMermaid It is good to be cautious for sure! However, many fabric tails also allow users to insert their own monofins, so it is a risk with many tails. When it comes down to it, users must be responsible for their own safety and all we as tail sellers can do is our best to guide and educate them. It is like the "swim at your own risk" signs we have in Michigan and the swimming warnings posted during dangerous conditions - people are made aware not to swim or go near the shore on certain days, but the choice is ultimately theirs to make. Unfortunately, some people make very bad choices even when knowing the consequences. But luckily, the large majority follows the guidelines and can enjoy the water safely. We can only hope everyone involved in our community with all tails will be in this large majority. 🖤
@@TheMagicCrafter Hi I know I'm really late to this discussion, but I think what she means about the open fluke thing is that a silicone tail, even a travel-tail, is much heavier than a fabric tail, which means that there's a bigger safety risk if the monofin used isn't powerful enough to let the person swim properly. It's also harder to remove than a fabric tail - you can sort of kick or pull off a fabric tail but silicone is sort of 'sticky,' so it's harder for someone to get their legs unbound if they find themselves in this situation. These issues are especially important to consider since the target audience for these tails is, presumably, younger or newer mermaids who aren't dedicated enough to devote a large expense to a silicone tail, or who may just be trying out a silicone tail for the first time. They're more likely to make these mistakes. I know all mermaid tails have inherent safety risks, and safety instructions are included with these, but it's still important to consider the increased risks of a particular design that hasn't been widely used yet. Furthermore, I'm no expert, but I was always under the impression that food-grade silicone is generally not used for tails and accessories because it can irritate the skin when in tight-fitting/direct contact for long periods of time. I've only ever seen it used on tails that are lined with something like neoprene. Again, I'm not an expert, and I know this is an old discussion that may have been resolved already. And I don't mean to come off as rude. But in the interest of sharing all potential concerns and viewpoints, I figured it couldn't hurt to comment. All that being said, the tails themselves are beautiful! I do hope this venture works out well, I know it would make a lot of mermaids very happy. I've been watching your stuff for a while and your mergoth aesthetic has had more than a little influence on my own. :) Creating your own mermaid business is an impressive feat.
14 yr old me would be screaming right now! This will be such a lovely opportunity for people on a lower budget that want the texture experience of a silicone tail without the heavy price tag. Question about designs, is this fluke shape the only one that is currently being offered? Will there be options for customization? So excited for your future adventures!
Thank you for mentioning that the glitter does fall off in the first few times of use… so it may both be great to use it brand new in the sea etc. I have swam in a pool where these tails have been and seen e glitter at the bottom of the pool floor.
I just got done touching up my hair color so I can hopefully film one tomorrow. Weather permitting though... it has been sooo rainy and windy this week. 😅 But I'm working in it. I promise 🥰🖤 Anything in particular you're interested to know about the tails? ❤
Wow yep I was completely wrong on whose tail is whose. Does the fantasea fin 3 fit in those tails? It’s basically the same size as the mahina but with little tips added. I wonder if the Fish Fin fits too-it usually does in anything that fits the mahina
@Siren.sparki the tails are custom-made to your body measurements 🥰🖤 Please feel free to email me at Shadow@MermaidTravelTails.com if you'd like a measuring guide sent your way,.or if you have any questions 🤗🖤
This is awsome I want to get a mono fin practice with those in the pool. Then get a fabric tail start swimming again. I would love a silicone. This maybe an easy way I can carry one, etc. I would also like the idea get together or something pd members. 😃 oh yeah you fooled me I thought you got the black one.
I'm using a Mahina 😊 The bottom seals shut underwater, although in the darker tail, a slight overlap can be seen from certain angles. The bottom stays shut pretty well when seated on land, but is not ideal for raising your fluke over your head (it opens) or laying on your side. I'll show some examples in another video. 😊

That is a great question! While I have had mine for only a few months, the factory manager is in close contact with me and I have asked him *so* many questions. Their company has only been open since 2021, so I know the tails last at least 2 years (but presumably longer- since they are pretty darn durable)! He seems to think they will last for as long as they are cared. This type of silicone should be oiled with baby oil when it isn't going to be used for a month or longer to help keep the silicone in ship shape. If I do notice any issues with stretch or the silicone's integrity over the years, I will absolutely let you know. While this is a small sub-section of my own business, I'm going to be 100% honest with you guys about the products. Cuz honesty is always the best policy. :) Great question! I hope I was able to answer it for you? I suppose the short answer is that we don't know for sure how long they can last, but we do know they last well for at least two years and possibly longer. :)
