    Welcome to the generator world. I considered it a must have. Last winter in AZ I probably used mine 6 times because I did not get enough sun. I have a small 10000 watt one. It will also run my 5000 BTU AC if needed. Solar will run the AC when the sun is out but like you say late afternoon or evening. I thought of making a small generator box with insulation to knock down the noise but mine is pretty quiet and the few times a year I use it the build is not needed. Nice to be a purist but when I started my journey I swore I would be comfortable and I am!!

    I have been thinking about building out a cargo trailer and buying land in Arizona. I have been thinking about putting a canvas like insulation on the outside of trailer. I would like it to roll up and be able to be stored like an awning. I was thinking of doing layers for more insulation especially when parked. Just my thoughts and maybe our paths will cross someday. I enjoy your videos.

    Make sure when your done using it to disconnect or shut off the propane and then pull it a few times to remove any remaining propane form the cylinder. If you don't, once it cools down it may create vapor lock in the cylinder and make it very difficult to pull start it the next time you want to use it.

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Champion actually says in the manual to turn it off by closing the valve on the propane cylinder... that way all the remaining propane is used up and the generator shuts down by fuel starvation... no need to pull again after that...

    Remember "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Create shade, stop the direct heat as much as you can. You can't help with the ambient temp but if you can give your trailer shade, it would really help.
    Good luck!

      that's a tough one. my solar is on the roof so shade is my enemy if I want to run my AC. awnings on the sides might be helpful to keep side walls out of the sun

    That's a pretty good choice. Here on Maui where about 25% of the power is from wind and solar (and growing), the utility keeps diesel generators operating on standby in case the wind stops. You gotta do what you gotta do!

    Keep the generator 15' from the trailer so you don't kill yourself from carbon monoxide.
    Since you now own the land consider a ground mount solar array. Since you are in Arizona look into santan solar for great deals on used panels. You can add more batteries if you are making more watts.

    Good video. I got the Champion 2500 which was on sale for $414. Using propane makes it run higher with less wattage than gas. Also turn off propane tank when turning off and then give it a couple of pulls to get the propane out of it. Otherwise when trying to restart you might hurt your shoulder pulling the cord or break the cord. Another TH-camr has put a video on this.

    Nice choice, propane backup. How much wind is in your area? If there is a lot of wind during the monsoon season? If so a couple of small wind turbines like the ones used on sailboats might get you through the non sun days. The are rated at around 400 watts but expect a bit less.

    My sympathies to you for the extreme temperatures you're experiencing out there Seven. Here in Ohio along Lake Erie, we have been fortunate with only ONE day of 90 degrees, so far this summer. A generator is a great idea for the times you can need extra power. I hope you're doing well and working your plan for relaxation, seclusion, and improvements to your property. A good driveway with gravel will someday keep you out of the monsoon muds. Best of luck in all of your endeavors.

      standard RV rooftop AC units generally take 1800 watts and its hard to get enough panels on the RV roof for that. I have a large roof without vents so get full coverage for 2.3k of panels. my mini-split only takes 700w in eco mode so I can easily power it with my panels as long as I have sun. I think for you the generator is a wise choice!

      The two main differences between us is that I'm in Oregon and not mobile, so wintering here in the dark and rain, and you have a victron which has low idle draw but I have a growatt with high idle draw.
      I've never been able to go a winter without running a generator every other day in the dark months, I know you've been to oregon you have some family here, but maybe you've just been plugging in when you're here.
