As a researcher of mass and targeted shootings, I’ve watched many press conferences that follow these tragedies. I have never been more impressed by the training that took place in Oxford. Solo engagement, partnering with the fire department and other agencies, and ALICE training for students, faculty and staff definitely saved lives. Students knew to block doors, prepare to counter, and evacuate. Tragically those who passed away or were injured didn’t have time. This is a tragic day for all. Sending strength to the community. As the sheriff indicated the impact of this never leaves. Moving forward, I’m hopeful the community will encourage postvention to first responders and all involved.
I sincerely hope that the father is charged with the appropriate felonies. The fact that the kid got his hands on the gun to begin with violates the feds own rules.
We as a society , cater to kids … walking on egg shells as adults is sick . This boy had over 37 altercations , troubling incidents , before this ! Why was he not sent to a psychiatrist if they’d already told him No BACKPACK per fear he’d bring something to school to harm others !!!!!!! Why was he not sent to an alternative school ? How do the parents not know to be on HIGH ALERT, when their child is always in so much TROUBLE !!!!! You don’t have to be rich , to yank your troubled child out of school and keep them your problem !!!! There’s resources out there to also help with mentally ill children , therapists , psychologists, doctors etc !!! I blame all the adults , they should have gotten him help , they should have done banned him from the public school , This IS NOT A GUN PROBLEM as MCCABE said !!!! It’s an adult problem ! It’s an administration problem , it’s a mentally ill child problem . Just like a drug addict , if they want dope they’ll go out and find it , if a kid wants to harm others or theirselves , they’ll figure out a way to do it !!!!
Thank you, Sheriff for ignoring all previous warning signs and lying about it, down playing the threats and lying about it, and allowing this disgusting travesty to happen. A true American hero. Thanks to your deputies also for standing idle by the courtyard doing absolutely nothing while the entire class of kids were running out the window. Thank you for taking down the suspect’s Instagram page (which you know had a threat on it) while leaving up all the fake ones that have been made since, glorifying and encouraging these shootings.
At least someone FINALLY said that!! Guns have NEVER been the problem. Mental health and teaching these kids common sense and moral responsibility should always be a priority!! Now, for the gun question: why was it not secured and how was it accessed? I'm an officer. First thing I did was train my family in its use and corresponding responsibilities to negate any curiosity and from there, it's never secured in the house in the same place!!
Lack of mental health seems to run in that family, given the mother's crudely orgasmic "open letter" to the T-rump. The whole family should have been prevented from getting anywhere near firearms.
Mental health is a major issue in this country. And why on earth would the father, not have it secured/locked up. The father should be charged as well for failing to secure a firearm from unauthorized access.
How do you know he didn't, & it wasn't the gun-&-45-loving MOM who made sure the homicidal son had access to the thing? Maybe she was a Boebert kind of female. Maybe it was her attempted vengeance on all the local families that had attractive looking, normal, friendly, emotionally stable kids.
What’s wrong with the parents…. Those guns should have been locked up… The parents need to be prosecuted…. These children had the right to life…. I’m so so sorry for the parents, family, and friends.
That is a baseless statement as the information on the family has not released and may never be. Yes, firearms should be secured but EDUCATION is the best PREVENTION
Well 😮. These incidents are truly starting to upset the balance of the Constitution as media presence is increased in the courtroom. Now that said I am completely floored that this is based on preliminary evidence a domestic terrorist incident partially facilitated by his parents. As I have limited social media access they were things that have been getting out since just before the incident that I was not aware of, but after this afternoon's arraignment I am now. It's bad enough we don't have the death penalty and still worse is we have to foot the bill in taxes that won't be used to prevent this!!!

Video games and antidepressants are what correlates with the rise in school shootings. Guns have been around for years and people were not shooting up schools when I was in high school. And then they started giving antidepressants to teenagers they felt were depressed when basically most teenagers are depressed and then they started making more and more realistic video games where the whole goal was to walk around shooting people and this is the result. The same people who own the video games possibly on the media and that's definitely something people should look into. This is the reason you will never hear about the true cause of the shootings
This is the same tired argument. You guys blamed Doom for Columbine. It's not video games. It's more likely people like you who blame entertainment instead of taking responsibility for being terrible parents
I mean folks blame video games and have the same statement. "Theyve been getting more real and real each decade" which is true. But these folks fail to realize that hundreds of thousands of people used to all gather in huge theaters to watch slaves literally kill each other with blades and spears. In fact in some bouts groups of slaves were hindered in such a way that they couldn't win, so it was just a slaughter. All for entertainment. The problem here lies in the simple things children don't learn. Take tee ball for instance. When I played tee ball teams won or lost. The MOST important thing I learned when I played was not how to win, but how to lose. Everyone loses in life at some point but kids have to learn HOW to lose. Instead nowadays no kid loses and no kid is left behind. Screw that. If you lose you have to learn how to better yourself to win next time. When I child goes through life thinking they can't lose or no one loses,,, guess what? When they lose it's a fault that destroys everything they've learned and disrupts all of society.
I'm here in Michigan. Let me clarify something. The young man is 15. Under 18 is considered a minor and the parents have to speak for the minor. Depending on how close to his 16th birthday (informal age of consent) is whether or not they move this into adult court. Regardless, the actor and his parents have invoked their 5th Amendment rights and now the courts are to run through the process. No matter what, he'll NEVER be free again!!
“We have had no contact with the suspect to determine if any previous disciplinary action has been taken.” You’re just gonna wait to take his word for it?! Ask the freaking administrators, you know, the ones who would have disciplined him, genius.
No school resource police 👮♀️ in every high school? So sad. I wonder if dad could be an assessory as he did not lock up gun properly? Why buy gun in first place?
Vets for hire after a psych eval and then frequent evals. Armed guards at the schools. It's hard to commit such a terrible crime/ tragedy with trained professionals on site. Might even just stop happening all together.
