When a song moves you emotionally through your audio system it's euphoric that us "audio community" can only understand and when the experience is shared, it just lights you even more. Well shared interview! you guys nailed towards the end.
You get it! ❤. This was just half of the whole interview. I might post the full 2hr interview on my patreon page. We talked more about classic rock, experiencing live music at different venues and how what we hear front row varies greatly to what we hear 30th row, or way up in the back of a big convert. Discussed a little bit more of Mark’s hifi rig and other components… Led Zeppelin!
Agree, made an amp upgrade for a dramatic difference and my wife finally gets it (hi-fi)! Like a lightbulb. It's like your own mesmerizing home concert we get to share.
I have all the parts to put my OB speakers together. This interview has given me the motivation to finish by putting the router to work! Thank you both.
"What is realism to you?" A great question. If I may comment my answer, I mean, that is what so many do in good form always.... Realism to me is; I am in the studio, with vintage Altec's on the wall with tubes, and the recordings sound like they are always coming from a bigger room than my room. Everything, pure and juicy.
Compression of the cabinet, exactly what I have heard, since I built my Lii Fast 15s, using 1.5 inch Baltic Birch. What Mark is saying is my experience with my Fast 15s. Get rid of the box, and the music is completely in your room. Also, you are using a point source speaker. After my mind completely grocked open baffle, listening to boxes sucks, for me. And, the details I hear now is completely satisfying. They are imagining champs.🌻
21:00 “You’re hearing the room”. Very true statement! This is lost on non musicians. The live experience as a listener is amplified by the room. This is why your friends should stop asking for links to a recording of the performance and actually GO TO THE SHOW. Acoustic music gets a “level up” in a great room.
One of you said people who like soundstage and imaging don't care if they can decipher what name brand guitar is being used. How could anyone know that? Anyway, that struck a sour note with me. It's okay, I gave your video a like, anyway.
@ didnt mean that as an absolute, in context, some people prioritize soundstage some prioritize tone, or something else, some need it all. For those who prioritize soundstage some dont care for tone, and some care for tone and can tell the type of guitar being played and some couldnt care less. And its all good.
Great video... Do you think That decware sarah 300b will work good with the macarias?... Also... Macarias is a word in Greek that is used mostly from monks and church and it's meaning is joyfull soul for the person....
I had a set of spatial audio OBs for many years. These past few years I've been playing with the lii song drivers and diy baffles of various materials and sizes. Are these speakers easily available in Canada, or even better Easter Canada? I'd be tempted to order a pair if it doesn't involve crazy shipping, currency conversion and import fees.
I was on the pre-sale list and decided not to purchase. This is work in progress as the business plan roll out is slow with design changes through-out. While it's nice to setup some purchaser's speakers, as this is not a sustainable business model. So, in the end, for my 1st Open Baffle, I did purchase Decware ZEN MASTER ZFast15L with Caintuck Audio Lii W-15 bass baffle as I have a number of box speakers I rotate in my gear.
Cool. 9g in the lowest config. Still out of my reach. What about the Caladan (Clayton Shaw). Half the price (or less). Have you heard em? I have found streaming is too dynamically compressed. It’s ok for convenience but it’s hard for me to stomach people who are into only streaming. I feel like they are not serious about “real” if they are only streaming. Even CDs are better frequently than this streaming. Grr. Plus PCM blows IMHO. I transcode all my PCM to DSD and the DAC just decodes it sounding more real. A/B people always pick the DSD (blind). I like your visitor is into realness of instruments. A violin should sound like a violin. I judge my system on how well it can reproduce real instruments. Sure soundstage is normally a concoction of the studio… but let’s not downgrade that process…the mastering gives you the sense of space even if manufactured. But if you want real you gotta probably get back to vinyl. Separation and space in instruments is key, if the soundstage and instrument transients are squashed by dynamic compression it just becomes lipstick on a pig. Source source source matters. Once I have real instruments setup properly then I can listen to other synthetic instruments (like synthesizers) and really hear what things sound like. You need to calibrate your system to real instruments if you ask me. Good content. I been lurky in shadows for a few weeks. But subbed now.
I'm sorry you find it "hard to stomach people who are into only streaming"... We mean you no harm. May I ask what dedicated Streamer and DAC you are using? And also the streaming service provider and tier you are using... I quite serious as to "real" in the sound of audio reproduction, and for many years would not accept the quality of binary audio... until now, with the advancements within the digital realm of recent years. If 9k is out of your reach for speakers, I would imagine the price point of such gear needed in the level of quality of proper digital audio reproduction may be as well. Dynamic compression and Data compression are two different entities...and so too are lossless vs lossy files in which music is transported and transformed to an analog signal. If one is to compare vinyl to digital as to the audible quality or realism, so too must the equipment being used in the comparison. When you begin your comments with price point being the lead of topic and follow it with your opinions of people and their listening choices, you sound as if you may have some type of issue with others and their preferences differing from your own... I can assure anyone that has viewed this video, my participation in doing so was merely to express my appreciation and gratitude of discovering a company and product of this magnitude in my personal audio journey. Listening to music is one of life's greatest pleasures for myself, but I have always believed as mentioned in the video, EVERY aspect of ones preferences and experiences are subjective.
@ sorry I hurt your feelings. I am sure your music sounds fine and real to you but it’s a serious compromise to consider. I am sure you love the speakers and sure they are quite good. It could be so much better than it is with streaming. Streaming sacrifices the music heavily by dynamic and lossy size compression (or the so called lossless stream…). It’s not the gear nor the price point. I also can’t stomach people that always say my gear sounds better with streaming because they need to feel better about the overly expensive items they bought. Hifi cave has proven this. There is for sure more money than brains category out there not say this is you. But there are alot of people who love to say because I spent 100k I can use streaming as a source. I don’t care what system you use. Crap in=crap out. I was just commenting 9g for speakers is alot to ask when other amazing products are out there for half that. The Caladan will probably give the maco a run for the money. I actually think those Maco look hideous. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Do I need to prop you up because you blew the cash? Streaming is a cop out and only for convenience IMHO. People who only stream are largely missing what the music really sounds like. Streaming is fine for convenience but it blows. Sure you can spend 50k on an amp etc like Mark Levinson so you can play streaming and make it bearable. I have heard 50-100g system that sounds like crap so money is not the thing. Value for money is. In this case I am sure your gear is fine and hope you enjoy putting 50k+ into…enjoy. This isn’t a money discussion, it was mentioned in the beginning because of the value proposition….separate discussion from the streaming. I could go spend 25k on a playback designs unit etc but that again can’t fix the pig being fed into it. It’s just lipstick at that point. Dynamic compression and digital slam sounds like your thing…. This is not a digital vs analog thing. It’s about crap source. Digital done right can be fantastic. Any serious person on sound production is not using streaming as their reference. Spending level is not a sign of serious, it’s just a sign that the value story in your head works out. If you wanna spend 50k on a machine that plays Taylor swift well then go ahead and do it. I have used tidal qobuz etc. crap. The best streaming is the atmos stuff that is down mixed to stereo. Simply because atmos won’t allow dynamic compression. I suggest you explore better sources for your music. Streaming is ok for background listening etc but not for a real strong experience. I heard the discussion about strats vs les Paul. Yeah that’s the point. But streaming is the lowest bar. Look for things better. Like DSD recorded vinyl or even SACD sounds head and shoulders more real. Not trying to rip on you…just saying streaming everything isn’t serious to me. Find the best sources for the system to sound the best. People love to push the prices up and up and up to convince you streaming can sound good. Look into it. DR 6 vs DR 13 and care in mastering makes a huge difference.
@@revelry1969 I have never claimed that streaming is the end all in audio reproduction, and never would I. There are no one size fits all in this topic, as so much of the quality comes down to the mastering of the media in which it is contained. I will admit however, your comments as to the Macarias being "hideous" looking, and over priced pisses me off, as I find it an insult to the owners of a company of such caliber. While you are entitled to your opinions, you may want to consider the efforts and sacrifices made by the owners of Maco to even attempt to bring a product of this quality to fruition.

Appreciate this. Category of journey 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Hifi is a selfish hobby in which we yearn for and enjoy the insight of other enthusiasts. I love it! 🤔 😂
Right, you guys know what others are thinking and what's important to them. Reminds of the mainstream media.
No we dont. Why would you say that?

@hificave okay, I can see that.
If I had the budget, I'd jump on a set! Maybe the owner would like to trade an amp! ;)
Keep up the great work Hi-Fi Cave!

I did use them, for jazz and acoustic yes. But for rock, Macarias sing with more watts then the sarah is made for.
Do open baffle speakers require a different approach to room acoustics?
Yes
lol "I'm gonna weave"

Yep. Reach out to Maco. They are in eastern canada.
@@hificavewell Merry Christmas to me!
The speakers seem really close to the wall.
I haven’t seen an open back Marshall stack. Is that a thing?
yes it is for years
The 4x12’s? Maybe if you take the back panel off.

IMHO the Caladan speakers might be a better deal at 1/3rd the price.

I just left this video to see what the difference is between fender and Les Paul. Fender all the way. I guess the country twang ain’t for me.
