- Ranjani and Gayatri are two sisters who perform as a Carnatic vocal and violin duo. They have also appeared as soloists, accompanists, composers, and educators of Indian Classical Music. Their work includes studio recordings; television, radio, and festival appearances; live concerts; and lecture demonstrations. In this video, renowned and highly talented Carnatic singers Ranjani - Gayatri sisters talk about their concert on Ilaiyaraaja’s songs. They also speak on film music and working with film music directors. They also interestingly speak about their husbands, children and family life.

Interviewer should respect artists especially of their stature and ask mature relevant questions. Here he seems more interested to create controversy. Thankfully RaGa sisters hv handled it so well with maturity.

The interviewer is not arrogant but a dummy who carries out the agenda of the owners of this particular media. It’s a pity that men of his caliber getting ‘sold out’ to agenda driven media owners who use such front faces to gain credibility but sabotage the existing ecosystem from within.
NONSENSE from the host, with the duo giving a fitting reply. Maestro Ilayaraja is someone who has been praised amply by the likes of Semmangudi, Balamurali Krishna etc. as early as the 1980s. When IR is flourishing from 1976 till date (with Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai), why would he wait until a 2023 concert for a recognition from Carnatic folks? Though where the anchor is trying to arrive at (10:27, 11:00) is APPRECIATED, the 2 previous questions from him are more absurd than absurdity itself, and self-contradictory. Even before RaGa's efforts, Bombay Jayashri, Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Sikkil Gurucharan, Dr. R. Ganesh etc. have praised IR immensely with the latter 3 being huge fans of IR, and some are also using IR's compositions to highlight the beauty of raagas in their concerts. Hope the host knows it well. 11:01 YES, it is high time the Carnatic compositions of Ilayaraja (from his filmography and his private / devotional albums) and some of his predecessors are highlighted, and sung by artists just like regular Carnatic compositions. I do not see anything wrong with that; the sky won't fall on earth if it is done!

I feel you both can be Ambassadors & in fact are, to take up carnatic music to greater heights to the next higher level/s. Youth who are bullish on bollywood music can be introduced to raaga based music. The fact & reality that every song has raaga inbuilt in it, has to be made known to youth so that carnatic music gets more fillip & a great push. N R Raghuram Hyderabad

I could not hear it properly that Mrs Meenatchi Subramaniam, the mother of RAGA sisters departed. She herself is a legend and brought the sisters very much talented. My heartfelt condolences for the Great Lady.

Raga with raja was amazing not sure why the interviewer thinks raja needs to earn points from Carnatic world. He has already proven in all areas of music. There could some hardline thick heads who will always will complain

Raja maybe a great film music director. He may also know Carnatic music. Please do not associate him with Carnatic musicians. That is not his forte.
How STUPID! MSS began her career in films as a singer AND actress. From Balamurali Krishna, T. N. Seshagopalan to Bombay Jayashree, Unni Krishnan, Sudha Raghunathan and RaGa, SEVERAL Carnatic musicians have SUNG/PLAYED for Maestro Ilayaraja. Ilayaraja even changed the raaga of Mari mari ninne; innovation/imagination at its FINEST. He has used/embellished most raagas in his composition (TRINITY would be proud of him!). His VAST repertoire extends BEYOND FILMS, into private albums like How to Name it, Nothing but Wind, Thiruvaasagam in Symphony (Oratario) and devotional albums. And YOU jealous nutcase simply say without even thinking, that "it is not his forte"?!

Most of the times Musics are interpreted great after their creation and initial days. Most of the times none of the interpretation philosophies are used while it was created. People want to take TRP mileage by interpreting others music if that person become great or a celebrity. If the interpreting person is a celebrity or a famous person the creator is also not going to oppose it. Music are always great in its absolute nature and doesn't require publicity or care from others. Example Laws of gravitation was existing and will exist even if Newton had not discovered it. 😀

Nothing wrong in IR being the fourth entity after the Trinity, IMHO. From Balamurali Krishna to Bombay Jayashri, Sudha Raghunathan, Unni Krishnan and RaGa, SEVERAL Carnatic musicians have sung / played for Maestro Ilayaraja! Even before RaGa's efforts, Bombay Jayashri, Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Sikkil Gurucharan, Dr. R. Ganesh etc. have praised IR immensely with the latter 3 being huge fans of IR, and some are also using IR's compositions to highlight the beauty of raagas in their concerts. Just pray to get a better mind at least in your next birth; there is no point in worshipping God if your mind is sick like your comment reflects.
