    As for what WE want to see. We are virtual passengers on your boat and invited guests into YOUR lives. That is what we have tuned in to see and be part of. What YOU want to do and what YOU are doing is far more important than what WE want to see. The moment you begin altering the content you will find out if there are ten of us on this end we all would like something different and then you will realize we aree no longer the virtual travelers but unwelcomed guests who would never leave.
    Keep doing what you want to do and what you enjoy doing, we are grateful for the glimpse into a life style we couldn't afford to do on our own either financially or time and healthwise. The channel has an organic appeal. It is what it is. If we don't like it , we can always get off. Right? Thanks for taking us along.

    Nice mix of content. Here are two thing you need on board: 1)a hot knife for cutting rope ; 2) plastic scrappers for green algae ( before going at it with a sponge). You will remove less bottom paint. Here in the Tuamotus we have algae too. But less in Tahiti. Let us know if the algae disappears in different waters.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that info guys! Plastic scrapers are certainly softer than the metal ones but it is worth a trial, thanks. I know that you need the metal ones when you get barnacles...

    I would like to see some segment(s) on:
    1. Power management (Elec)
    2. Water management
    Making and daily allocation.
    Great videos. Like your sound advice regarding partner/guest making commitment. Try before you buy.
    For all recreational boaters

    Is to go out and come back
    It is what happens in between

    I really enjoy the routines of entering a country and leaving, the process for both vessels and humans. Locking the locks, and setting sail, some sails will be uneventful, others more dramatic, each their own story. I enjoy the captain's tips and how too's. And the destination, all the touristy elements, some I want to visit, others I am happy to have learned about them through you both. I love learning, knowledge is power and you are a natural teacher. Stay safe and happy sailing.

    Hey there you two 👋 I'm always happy to learn of the situational events and scenarios you both encounter during your travels.
    Two content elements I would like to spend my time watching include:
    1. The real-world unexpected boat /navigation/ jurisdiction issues, or topics that arise from health, wealth, mindset and social; all that is part of the meat and potatoes of your vlog IMO.
    2. I'd love to see and hear more about your destinations and the touristy/visitor info, tips, insights you can offer to others (like me) who may indeed someday sail along the same/ similar course you guys have chosen👍.
    Blessings and smiles ☮

However there are really interesting things in certain towns without it being boring (esp the history) so we will try and bring out that interesting stuff... We bought a Leopard 50 in Lisbon in August (our first boat) and are sailing in the Med. We are currently in Cartagena for the winter. We were are the LaGrand Motte boat show when you were on your Leopard 45 and were filming. We are the couple in the orange down jacket standing on the dock when you pan over to the Leopard 50. You do a great job with your videos. We are very interested about how you plan your trips, choose your anchorages and the captains tips. We would love it if you talked about the weather app or apps that you use. We would love to hear what your boundaries are in terms of what is too much wind, wave size as well as wind and wave direction that you will go out in. We love seeing the towns that you go to and hearing about where you put your dinghy when you are in town. The technical side of anchoring we are interested in too. We enjoy seeing what you are cooking. The segments you've shown of what you cook on passage or eat on passage are informative. Thank you for all the work that you go to when it comes to filming and editing!

      Thanks for the comment and shame we did not meet up in Grand Motte! Thanks for the kind words for letting us know what you would like to see too as we often take some everyday things for granted.
      As you would see from the L45 /50 comparison video, I do say that it is a BIG boat to manage but you do get used to it! So How are you finding managing the L50 as your first boat?
      We will try to include more of those issues in future episodes. Regards, John and Eli

    On cleaning the algae, I wonder if a high pressure washer would work? You'd have to get the nozzle really close to the hull and the main unit on deck, and it would have to have a long enough hose to reach where you need to go. Point the nozzle down so the debris moves in that direction and (hopefully) doesn't block your viewing. Wear wetsuit to protect skin if you accidently hit it with the output.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is very creative thinking! The leads are not long enough in our pressure cleaner to get to the bottom of the hull and I don't know how well the water jet wrks under water. The battery operated scourer that Delos have is the best deceive I've seen so far to take out the effort. Or alternatively get good crew to do the work!

    A few things in my minuscule opinion, in covid times many of your viewers had time to sit and dream and share in your adventures ,many are back to the grind stone and office life,dont watch as often.....,the Leopard 50 was a horrific experience and you shared the step by step process and experience in what you are allowed to share with us ,and not jeopardize your claim,this is much appreciated and a reality for many who want to buy and live onboard ,...from then till now you persona has changed and its clearly understandable and heartfelt,what you share in current vids ,relates to a certain viewer audience,me being 58 wanting a liveaboard lifestyle for retirement relate well to the day to day tips and procedure's of sailing and maintenance and costs ,not sure if its the same for the younger crowd looking at buildings or the adventure of seeing old places....part 1 ,2 to follow

    I had a small NACRA 5.8 catamaran and kept a couple of lines with looped ends in the water. That way if I went overboard I could use the loops in the line as a step and pull myself out of the water easier. Good thing to have at the end of the day and you're exhausted.

    I like the mix of content that you guys have been doing lately. The Captain's Tips are a nice addition especially. I know that the sailing is not always dramatic for everyone but I like little vlogs of someone at the helm, even during overnight passages. They can be nice little stream of consciousness nuggets about the challenges one faces while being alone. Just a thought. Keep up the good work and we'll keep watching the adventures.

    I think you are doing well. It is the versatility of things and situations to cope as they occur, what makes a channel like yours interesting. So, even when a single episode might seem a bit randomly put together: It doesn't matter, because like in a good novel the episodes following at least and by times built up the whole story, of what its all about. Even the process of how your channel develops eventually is a story of its own for the followers and you as well. So, might be intended or not , the title "barefoot" very well does represent some kind of core. Doing and thinking it all barefoot is the motto here, not stepping in any special kind of shoes.

    I think you show a very good balance of the destination, the challenges and excellent commentary. I love your videos. My wife and I just spent 2 weeks sailing on our friend's FP Saba in Turkey. It was my wife's first boating experience and she surprisingly loved it. I wish I could say we are definitely getting a sailboat but I think a power cat is more for us.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Kirk. A powerboat is certainly much easier and more predictable than a sailing boat and if that what gets you out on the water, all the better! We have had motorboats in the past (2) and it is highly likely to move to powerboats again if our health deteriorates and we still want to be out on the water.... Nothing wrong with it - so good luck and enjoy it!

    No lectures, no how to. There are to many others doing it. So sailing channels are the best. Destinations. We saw nothing of where you've been recently to speak. And yet in the past you have been great. e.g. Your Noosa ep. up the glades. Awesome. Almost logged out of this ep. but I have respect for you.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Earl, we thought that people would be very interested in the destination videos but unfortunately our reflection on the views that we get do not show that that is what the "people" want... We get much higher views for the fit out type videos and yacht reviews and discussions about new boats while we are looking... Even our sailing episodes in the specular Bahamas got less views than our HH and other boat reviews. Thanks for sticking with us - we interrupted the Med destination sailing videos to get everyone up to date with where we are right now and hope to bring the rest of Italy and Greece to you later...

Hopefully your family member will settle in ok and learn some new life skills whilst with you, you both are good teachers! I always like the practical tips you offer, as a sailing channel I always prefer more content on sailing and less on eating out at restaurants. The walking tours are always good to follow as many people may not have the opportunity to visit some of these places. Crossing fingers on the insurance saga. Take care.

    Good work around. Just this week, I happened to buy a shackle just like yours. At West Marine they were $48 to over $100! Instead online I bought a 1/2" bow shackle '316' stainless steel (same alloy as the WestMarine....whether it is or it isn't.... Amazon sells a lot of fakes.) $13. I did just find a WestM online listing for $35 that I'd have bought had I seen it in the store. I wasn't going to pay $70, a similarly rated carabiner is $10) And I'll check the swage wire on my bridle and rode shackles) And as a quick fix if you've just lost the pin (bolt) but still have the shackle you can use a nut and bolt or all thread and two nuts. (Using wire is called swaging, there are some amazing videos of how to do this for jet engines. Real nerd joy. )
    Cheap cable ties are impermanent at best. UV degrades them rapidly. I think I'd always use wire - unless it's non-critical and then regularly replace the cable tie. For cutting rope, especially dyneema I have Claus 8" Bent Kevlar Shears $31. I bought them to cut Kevlar (not even a new utility knife blade could cut that stuff) Works great, bought a second pair to keep on the boat.
    This was a well balanced video, I really enjoyed it. I do get a kick out of being seduced by a flotsam honeydew.... Your shackle and fix were always interesting. I do get bothered when a video is titled 'We replace our (thing) and then they spend 20 minutes trying to undo a nut.... and the video ends and they haven't replaced anything. I always like to go to Google Maps and see the places. I was just watching a video on an Irish island, none of the places they went were on Google Maps (a reference to a GMap location would've helped.) and they had too many great shots of whatever.... I think I'm vicariously planing my visit. I think we've all just left a place and then discovered we'd missed something we'd love to have visited. Great to see you living your positive philosophy.

    You can be the first cruiser on youtube to wash the slim off your hulls with a pressure washer. Slim invites hard-bottom growth. Pressure washers work underwater with salt water just flush inside and out with freshwater. Some pressure washers have ceramic parts that don't pit or corrode. Do this in calm shallow water while walking on the ocean bottom.

    I've followed and enjoyed all your episodes. Especially those having crew aboard and onshore meeting other travelers and locals. I have 2 ? about visiting ports in the several EU nations: are you required to obtain entry and exit documents & pay fees with each port of call? Also I've wondered if you have found necessary to carry cash for shopping or for large expenses. I don't like to carry large amounts and rely on convenient ATMs.
    I really do hope you will be paid soon for the fire loss. We all felt the pain with your loss.
    I would be interested, when you are free to reveal the findings, if there was a that it was a defect and failure of electrical or gas or fuel systems components or worse arson.
    God bless and safe sailing.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment Mickey. We carry very little money with us in the EU as ATMs are everywhere and easy to access. We also can pay for most things with credit / debit cards so that reduces the need for cash. Morocco, Greece and Turkey want to be paid in cash more but ATMs are still easily available. Most of the EU does not charge for in and out of ports and you pay for the berths only. The fire was not caused by gas, fuel or a boat defector arson but with it being under legal processes we are not able to release the info yet.

    - captain tings are good but make it thorough and very accurate.
    - exemple can be electric capacity and management. Thoroughly.
    - weather gribs, routings, prediction, etc.
    - mecanics and engine issues
    - ports, marinas, fees, leaving your boat at anchor: anxiety?.
    - leaving your dingy on a beach or else. Etc
    Well, I bette stop abd simply thank you and wish you fair winds.

    Hi. I've a rigging and sail-plan question. I am surprised and the height of the bottom of the boom that extends from the mast, above the cabin, due to the high fly-bridge. Is there a different model from Lagoon, or another manufacturer or kit-producer, that allows more sail area placed lower above the water, lower on the mast? Is there an sensible modification option, for the next time the rigging and sails are due for replacement to make that high fly bridge lower or retractable, and the boom lower, and the sail plan lower and perhaps larger?
    When you have an opportunity to confer with rigging, sail, and vessel experts, pose the question and inform us, please.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment Don, in reality, it is much better to buy a boat configured for better performance than to take a heavy comfort based (slow) cat and try to modify it. If you want better performance, buy a boat built for that from the outset as modifications after are very expensive and probably reduce the value of the boat unless done really well...

  • @sedatkasrat
    @sedatkasrat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen that you dive to clean the hull as it's like a regular snorkeling... I strongly recomend to put earplugs when you work down there... While cleaning bottom with a sponge, lots of little creatures are scattered around.If you're a little bit unlucky (you know... hate to say but you guys really are) and one of them gets into your ear, it may cause serious issues to drive you crazy, like endless ringings and so.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Sedat, Usually when all you have is algae there are no or very few insects anthem. The heavy contamination with barnacles and soft solid growth is when there are insects in the process. I have had one instance when there was a huge outflow of insects (thick growth in a static boats of several months and was really horrible! You can usually see if the growth contains sea creatures as you start to scrape and as can see of this algae it was only the thin grass and nothing in it. I do have a string on board to flush things out of ears if needed but you are right that those insects can cause infections as can just ordinary seawater... As you say, ear plugs would reduce the risk for both of these issues so thanks for the reminder!
      By the way, we do not consider ourselves "unlucky" and these events occur because we are living a full life and they can just occur in that process of a full and adventuresome life! We also don't consider ourselves "lucky" as everything we have achieved is planned and worked towards for the best part of 20 years together. The events that occur are just hiccups on the way to achieving our dreams and life lessons that we will learn from and hopefully make us better people.
      Regards, John and Eli

    Good on you both for your positive attitude to keep moving forward. Clearly, that topless girl really affected John's performance on the paddle-board. Shame on you John! It had nothing to do with having to go backwards. Still I would have looked too! Any chance to see a white pointer or two...
    🤣😂🤣. John, Perhaps you should rub the hulls down once a week rather than let it build up, then less rubbing would be involved and less scourer need be used and less chance of removing the anti-foul. I'm sure you're in the water more than once a week swimming and snorkelling...And even doing it once a week, you don't have to do ALL of it at the same time, You can just do parts and move on to the next section next time you're in. If You end up doing it again when it is quite thick as it was this time, rig some ropes that go along the length of the hulls, but are tied under the hulls with cross ropes (say, every 1m - 1.5m apart), and Loose enough to leave only a couple of inches to grab hold of (between the rope and the hull), in a LOOSE (very loose) netting style of cradle. I would run two lines - one each side of the keel and one around the water line or just under the waterline on each side of the hull. This way you can grab hold of the ropes at any point and this helps you pull yourself down or forward or to a stationary position if needed. You can wind your legs into the rope and can help hold you still (best done barefoot of course). You can picture yourself climbing the rigging as in days of old - except underwater. It's even easier with a surface supply hook rather than diving equipment, although that can be handy! If you are short on ropes just use one cross rope at a metre at a time and move it aft as necessary. A good sailing chandlery will stock simple rope clips that don't damage ropes when you clip onto them. Check them out. They look like a BIG safety pin. I'm Sure you know them.
    Best of luck moving forward. Fair 💨's and following🌊's.

    Hi. Yes please continue as you can, to inform us of the trials, challenges, and developments, and the resolution of the fire-damaged boat loss claim.
    The builders, brokers, yacht clubs owners, harbor operators and vessel owners ought to all be vocal and determined in the reduction of obstacles and costs of insuring and the hurdles and delays to placing and collecting valid claims. These vessels are our homes or livelihoods, or both. Rapidity of service and satisfactory resolution of getting, maintaining, renewing, and any necessary claiming upon vessel policy coverage is essential.
    I wrote we, however, I'll only become a vessel owner if the insurance debacles are significantly reduced. ...or as I can perhaps at some point be self reliant and go the self-insurance route, or possibly oin into a not-for-profit mutual protection and recovery association to get necessary coverage to be allowed entry into harbors and to gain docking and slip use.

    All you need is liability insurance, if any. If you finance a boat you are forced to get insurance, which means you should not be buying in the first place. As far as marina access, you can allow a lean on your home, not your boat up to 1/2 a million dollars. Again if you can't do this, stay off the water. If some young kids slam into you, just laugh it off, they have no money. If a charter boat hits you, they are covered, maybe? Your only saving grace, "Maybe" is the fact this happened in US waters, good luck, but don't hold your breath.

    You are extremely lucky that you can continue your lifestyle without the insurance pay out. I absolutely loathe insurance companies and have avoided insuring things all my life including very valuable cars and houses.
    I am assuming that the insurance company is weaseling out on the basis that it should be a warranty claim against the boat builder. Of course this doesn't help you one bit. In my opinion they should pay you out and then chase the builder themselves.
    Anyway this is one of many outs that insurance companies frequently use and owners of relatively new boats should be warned of this.
