Establishing the Outside Edge | iTrain Hockey

  • A common error in players learning to use their outside edge thrust in backward crossovers is that they are not establishing their blade onto it's outside edge enough and at the right time. In single leg backward outside edge kicks, we first get onto the outside edge then we pick up our opposite leg and crossover that edge. First establish the correction conditions and then it's easy to create grip then thrust and speed!

    Great drills, thanks! Outside edge skating skills is the one of the most important and fundamental things for an advanced player

    I'm nearly 28 about to play my 5th season ever and I wish I had the privilege to train with someone with a quarter of the knowledge this man has

      It's never too late. The explosion of social media has really opened doors to expanding knowledge across everything not just hockey. Keep at it and keep learning!

    Well said on your ‘establishing the edge’ approach.
    I agree wholeheartedly.
    Go!

    Great Drill!
    My only issue is my outside edge on my right foot, which effects any crossover to the right. This was a bad habit developed over years of skating anti-clockwise around a small rink and not establishing my outside edge on my right foot.

      @@TheLeafs4thewin I haven't been on the ice in 10 years, just signed up for beer league last week and I've more or less still got the skills, but my right outside edge is like I'm learning to skate from the very beginning, its driving me crazy.

    Ok yes, but during what specific circumstance is this drill useful?

    • @drago16
      @drago16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Game wise? None. This is a development skill that allows players to have more control over their skating ability which allow them to be better players. Not all practice drills are related to game circumstances.
