No wonder she is a maid, not only she survived bec of her thick hull, she is supplied well to keep her crew healthy and motivated. Her crew did their duties well to maintain her and kept her intact
Issue was the Warspite was terribly damaged and practically falling apart. By the end of the war, one of her turrets was permanently out of commission (due to a guided bomb/missile strike). Her barrels had fired so many shells the rifling had wore out. She'd been hit by a naval mine so her propeller shafts were cracked. There's also the matter that Warspite sailed from 1916 to 1945... which meant nearly 30 years of seawater damage. You could refit it, but with a ship that damaged, with the British so bankrupt thank you ww2, they couldn't really turn Warspite into a museum ship.
There was a lot of support for Warspite though. She drew some pretty large crowds with a good measure of emotion when she broke her tow lines near Penzance. Many said that was her fighting going to the breakers' yard.
virusguy5611 She was heavily rebuilt in the 30’s with new superstructure, armour and enhanced range turrets. If the will had been there she could have been saved. Visited HMS Belfast in 2011, was impressed with her layout and advanced level of engineering. She seemed relatively spacious for a ship of her time, but there weren't 900 sailors aboard when I visited. Agree, HMS Vanguard would have been a great museum and tribute to RN history too.
Cailus Griffin We failed to preserve USS Enterprise, though. :( I know it would be ridiculous to try to preserve every ship, or even to preserve every famous or iconic one. There's just too many ships for that. But Warspite and Enterprise were the two ships most worthy of preservation since HMS Victory, and both ended up becoming razor blades. Quite sad.
If it had been up to me, I would've had Enterprise preserved in Annapolis next to the US Naval Academy. Alongside Forrest Sherman Field seems like a nice location with sufficient shoreline. I was also hoping that the most recent Enterprise would be preserved, but apparently so much space was taken up by nuclear reactors (which of course have to be removed for safety reasons) that the ship had to be literally gutted.
@@RedXlV I know it is something of a joke to say they were made into razor blades but it is an incredible waste of finite resources to make razor blades from them. The Steel in the ships cannot be made anymore, there is not economical way of doing it. The reason is simple, the radioactive background in the air post Trinity is to high for steel made in it to be used in radioactive detection equipment, as such he steel is very valuable. Armour sections from Vanguard were used in the whole body monitor at the Radiobiological Research Laboratory (now DSTL). Still a waste but at least not all of it was made into razor blades, a lot was tho.
RedXlV look I think it was also a tragedy that Nevada (bb36) wasn’t turned into a museum I know there are political reasons behind that decision but I think it cost more to intentionally sink her than it would to have just preserve her

Visited the Belfast last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. She stands as great testimony to both the Navy and the men that have served in defence of this country.

Had the honour of visiting her 2 years ago and simply put. Images and videos don't do her justice. One must visit her to fully appreciate her grandeur. Amazing ship with an incredible history. Absolute miracle that mine didn't take her to her grave, but like all British ships, she was a fighter!

A sad but interesting fact, the Royal Marines Band Service suffered the highest casualties in respect to their numbers, second only to RAF Bomber Command. This is because the Band Service served as Fire Control parties and were based in the bowels of the ship well below the waterline. If the ship went down the bandsmen had no hope of escape
Wonderful video, although war is evil, the professional nature of the Royal Navy cannot but foster a feeling of pride for them all. God have mercy on us.
Americans are like the Red headed stepchild. Rebelled against dad, but in the end came back to fight with family. After watching this video it just reinforces the fact that the British are fierce warriors. With all the honors that come with that. Good video and thank you for the historical lesson!
I wish they saved HMS Warspite. She even fought while heading towards the scrapping yard wanting to be saved, but noooooo. They had to scrap her. They can't even make a damn replica respecting her brilliance that we need World of Warships, KanColle, and Azur Lane to remember her by. Thanks for the video. I learned a lot, especially after having visited HMCS Haida back in September 5th, 2019. Took lots and LOTS of images because of how precious she is. Three awesome hours spent touring HMCS Haida, loving every moment of her. I now want to go visit the majestic HMS Belfast. I need to thank KanColle & Azur Lane for making me aware of her presence.
She's not gone completely , if you go to Camborne a retailer called Mcsalvours has chunks of her armour in the car park .the owner has the bridge controls .
those German underwater magnetic mines were seriously underrated as weapons, much like the proximity fuse shells us Yanks made they dont get the attention they deserve
They were a very formidable weapon at first but after the British managed to capture a defective one they worked out how it worked. Then they put in counter measures which almost eliminated their advantage entirely.
In 1939/40 a magnetic mine was captured from the mud of the Thames Estuary, and after examining how it worked a system was introduced onto most British warships called “degaussing” which comprised of copper cables wrapped around the hull of a ship to reduce the magnetic signature which greatly reduced their effectiveness. So although they were a formidable weapon early in the war new counter-measures quickly reduced their potential so this probably is why magnetic mines are underrated as weapons.
I think a magnetic mine washed up on the Thames estuary. Some brave person managed to defuse it and the British then started fitting degaussing wires around the decks.
I wish World of Worships would do a video on the USS Laffey, she is a Allen Sumner class destroyer. She was commissioned in 1944 and decommissioned in 1975. Today she is a museum ship in Charleston South Carolina. She served in three wars and has a very rich history.
Great video!!! Got to see this ship twice in the 1980s when I was in the US Army and stationed in Germany. Took vacation to visit friends in Kent, but detoured to London for a week each visit. First time in London, saw HMS Belfast, but did not have any interest nor new anything about her. Second visit, wanted to visit ship but she was closed down for renovations/repairs - missed opportunity on my part. At least I have some awesome photos of her!!
I saw one in game too, I don't recall if it had torps or not but it definitely had the smoke. The other players and I thought that this was odd since the last we had heard the British cruiser line wasn't going to get smoke. As for torps, I kind of hope they get them since every other cruiser line, save for most of the USN, get them. With their small guns they'll need something to give them a little extra punch, unless their thing is going to be just high DPM and possibly high fire chance from HE.
Apparently Belfast in-game represents her 1956 configuration. That's also why she has 40mm Bofors guns instead of the 40mm Vickers Pom-Pom mounts, and why she gets to be one of the few Tier 7 ships with radar.
Belfast off the Normandy beaches comes under fire from a German shore battery. She slips her anchors and pisses off leaving the Landing Craft Flak which was giving her AA cover to the mercy of the shore battery. No warning given of her leaving. My father was on the LCF and was severely wounded . He had a friend serving on Belfast who was horrified at the event.
im almost certain shes the last ww2 era ship the uk built thats still around now. that still amazes me i mean they scrapped every other ship that survived even the warspite. ive been on this ship and it was awesome but i cant help but look at the americans and the amount of ww2 ships they still have remaining. i mean it wouldve been cool to see a battleship of that era for myself and its kinda sad that i cant. at least they saved something from being scrapped :)
Nope - HMS Cavalier is a UK WW2 era WEP destroyer at Chatham Historic Dockyard and there is a midget X-class sub still existing. There's also some surviving UK built WW2 ships that served with the Commonwealth navies, eg. HMCS Haida in Canada. If you include WW1 built vessels there is also HMS Caroline in Belfast (C-class cruiser) and M33 at Portsmouth.
unlike America t the end of world war 2 , the uk was broke, it had almost a million damaged houses to repair or rebuild. I am afraid looking after aged warships was not a priorty. The creation of the welfare state , the national health service was the main focus
In fall, 1978, I was on a U.S. Navy LST which had brought our USMC unit over to maneuvers in West Germany. Our ship sailed up the Thames and docked alongside the HMS Belfast. What a way for a 22 year-old to see London. (I don't remember which LST I was on. If you know which one this was, please let me know.)
Azur lane make people know about Various kinds of warships during WW2. Including their name and History. But In reality, their history even worse than you can imagine

She Attacc
She Protecc
But most importantly
She give tons of Snacc
Yeah! I love that at the mention of “battlestations” the cooks make sandwiches
2:25 I've So Excited For Imperial War Museum's HMS Belfast In The City Of London In England This Year. Wish Me Luck. Shiver Me Timbers. Thanks Mate. X
Let's be honest
We want to see a HMS Belfast vs KMS Prinz Eugen match-up considering both are formidable cruisers and both are tier 8 ships
Fantastic video. Thank you WoW for producing all these great videos.
World of Warships are you going to make a Naval Legends for HMS Warspite and HMS Hood?
since the Hood got destroyed by the Bismarck I don't know how much they could use detail wise
@@blazingsniper2611 talk that to Yamato, dude. But WG can make video about it. Soo Hood is also not impossible
Sorry alive one only
They did one on the Yamato. That sunk.
As a child growing up in the 80s I was always down the Thames looking at this ship.. it's now nice to find out her History..👌 Great Content..
those German underwater magnetic mines were seriously underrated as weapons, much like the proximity fuse shells us Yanks made they dont get the attention they deserve
They were a very formidable weapon at first but after the British managed to capture a defective one they worked out how it worked. Then they put in counter measures which almost eliminated their advantage entirely.
^
In 1939/40 a magnetic mine was captured from the mud of the Thames Estuary, and after examining how it worked a system was introduced onto most British warships called “degaussing” which comprised of copper cables wrapped around the hull of a ship to reduce the magnetic signature which greatly reduced their effectiveness. So although they were a formidable weapon early in the war new counter-measures quickly reduced their potential so this probably is why magnetic mines are underrated as weapons.
They were invented by the British and given to the us during the Tizard Missions, you're right though, you lot just manufactured them.
HMS Belfast, the last of the Brittain steel clad war machines of the high seas,
Great video!!!
Warspite not being preserved as a museum ship is a crime.
I remember seeing the Belfast in London. It's awesome to see history in person.
Absolutely! I desperately want to go and explore it would take me 2-3 hours to get there
Carlos Balazs. Glad you enjoyed it
The wax figures look terrifying
I saw this ship ingame last night. Fired fast and very accurately. Also it had smoke but no torps. Going to be fun ship to play.
The Belfast we have in game is the Korean War Belfast, who loses her torpedoes.
Apparently Belfast in-game represents her 1956 configuration. That's also why she has 40mm Bofors guns instead of the 40mm Vickers Pom-Pom mounts, and why she gets to be one of the few Tier 7 ships with radar.
Cailus Griffin Yep, so it seems. I'll certainly be buying.
Finally. The first WoWS video I have liked
Samuel Harrison I disapprove of it it's not Kriegsmarine
That are all great!!
Finally naval legends about British ship! ;)
respect to the old chap and his final speach. lest we forget :)'
She’s the best maid you’ll ever get and has the great HE shells
wait a minute this isn’t azur lane
She’s still delicious
jvtagle
E
Still has great HE shells.
*salute!!
The creation of the welfare state , the national health service was the main focus
a mac Britain has even now barely recovered from the economic downfall ww2 caused
best video ever very rich of information, very complete, loved it
I'm just passing by
This made me laugh.
@GreenTea Well now its a Enterprise AND a Essex class carrier.
Another Legend I've been aboard. Top shelf WoWs.
I’ve actually been aboard the hms Belfast
when a gaming channel does commentary content better than naval history channels
Best waif- wait.
In fall, 1978, I was on a U.S. Navy LST which had brought our USMC unit over to maneuvers in West Germany. Our ship
sailed up the Thames and docked alongside the HMS Belfast. What a way for a 22 year-old to see London. (I don't remember which LST I was on. If you know which one this was, please let me know.)
That's a maid ship, yeah from Azur Lane
@Caspar Goodrich take a look at azur lane first before you make this shitty comments
Azur lane make people know about Various kinds of warships during WW2. Including their name and History. But In reality, their history even worse than you can imagine
Jeffry Alfarizy
To be fair Azur Lane made feel way much sadder about HMS Hood sinking than before
@@ghakfjkstjajdjd1811 well you know Yamato Battleship? That one is the saddest moment In pacific war
@@ezalfarizy7113
_Akagi sunk_
those words made me cry Wally Filby you are my hero
"The middle gun was moved back a little." Nice terminology there, my dude.
I have been on this ship! Very good to walk around.
Best maid 10/10
Thanks for making this kind of videos!
I like how the comments are filling with MEIDO BELFAST
