    Does Glenn Gers realize how helpful his advices are? And that his ideas are applicable practically to anything? I mean I have studied methods like GTD and many organizing processes in order to work more efficiently and to find the elusive work/life balance. Here Mr Gers sums up the pillars of the best systems out there: just think of the present "scene" (break the big overwhelming work into the smallest next action, in the Gtd jargon), start as you are with as much energy as you have now (Tiny Habits book) and make it a systematic recurring habit (Fly Lady system). Anyone else noticed that?

  • @KevinMcGee_CSSian
    @KevinMcGee_CSSian ปีที่แล้ว

    This is sooood good; so much value given. I wonder if Glenn Gers ever connected his "formative training" (writing in short bursts as a temp) with his realization (seemingly later) that his best process is (wait for it) writing in short bursts? Thank you FC and GG. Truly.

    1h30m the academic exercise of 'find the part'. "The audience is not looking for an inciting incident or a second act reversal. They don't care. They care about the characters."
    This point perfectly explains why we shouldn't be too dogmatic about a particular paradigm or tool - because we can justify 'finding' any kind of pattern in a finish piece of work, but we don't know if it was constructed in that way.

    • @ramasassi
      @ramasassi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also kind of reinforces the idea of the "save the cat" tool, we empathize with the main characters, and with the "villains" we let go our darkest impulses (as long as they're well written, developed and justified).

    • @Ruylopez778
      @Ruylopez778 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ramasassi It reinforces the idea that the audience's perception/empathy can be manipulated through technique, yeah. I think it was Paul Joseph Gulino that said something like, if you understand the effect the 'beat' has, then you can apply it however you want - as in, understanding how it works is more important than just mimicking Save the Cat without thinking about it.

    • @Mr.Monta77
      @Mr.Monta77 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxstravagar Not really, I don’t assume anything. I have no knowledge of your life or what obstacles you have overcome. Although you sound a little immature, everything in your life and work may be simply wonderful for you… all the time. Always. I wish you the best of luck and success.
      For the rest of the human race, we are often both challenged, worried and weakened quite frequently. We struggle and question our abilities, and sometimes lose our confidence and stare blankly out the window. Most writers, will sooner or later be confronted with this unpleasent truth. Even in ancient Greece, this phenomena was known and discussed in his classic play ‘I lost the Plot’, (Plato 348/347 BC).
      However, understanding our limits, can be a valuable thing. This is how we recognize our fragility as humans, and the how we can develop the sensitivity of our senses, and grow our strengh and indeed having the abilith to overcome our challenges is one of the things that makes us human.

    • @maxstravagar
      @maxstravagar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mr.Monta77 first off I am very much human and second all that you have said about me is presumptuous.
      I experience all the things writers go threw except for one; as I mentioned in my previous post. I have never run out of ideas, If this concept sounds immature or unbelievable, perhaps you should be asking me questions how I manage to maintain this ability Instead of talking down to me.
      I see that you are threatened, because we are not equals... perhaps someday you can catch up to me.

    • @Mr.Monta77
      @Mr.Monta77 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxstravagar Oh dear, well as I say (now twice), I have absolutely no knowledge of you nor your life or work. I don’t assume or presume anything, and like I say (also now twice), I’m glad you are well. Good for you!
      I was only speaking about us, the less fortunate, who struggle with for example self-doubt, which can lead to writer’s block. Perhaps the term should be clearer defined as I’m sure people interpret this in many different ways?
      Anyway, I’m sure you are right, I am not your equal and can only hope that I one day will reach your exalted state. Very likely not. And yes of course, your sophisticated use of inverse psychology quickly revealed that I feel threatened, indeed, to an existential level. (What can you expect from someone at my level?) How perceptive of you. Well, I will probably struggle with this embarrassment for quite some time. Maybe it is just my overdeveloped ego that made me so vulnerable to your comment? Very possibly. That will remain a mystery.
