Fun fact: I was listening to a local radio station like a week ago, and they occasionally say some weird fact or something that happened recently, generally with celebrities or something. A week, ago, it made the news on this station, and it’s not really a niche little station, it’s one of the main local ones where I live, that a restaurant got rid of tips and started actually paying their employees $30 an hour. It made the literal news.

I have a roomie that does bonsai. He describes it as... "The art of torturing a plant for years on end."
You can bonsai any plant technically... you just need to know exactly how to take care of it, and trim it to a degree you aren't quite killing it...

8:14 Tensegrity table. It's the tension of the strings, chains, etc that keep the table suspended like that. The TH-cam channel/couple Evan & Kaitlyn made one themselves, so if you want to see how they're built. Though, there's trial and error at the start.
There's also a Steve Mould video that does a great job explaining the exact geometry of how they work

That table you were bamboozled by is called a Tensegrity table, the combination of tension and integrity. The center chain is pulled on by gravity, and the outer chains hold it in place. They do this by: if one chain attrmpts to collapse under gravity, the opposing one will be pulled on, and that goes on all the time. You can place objects(not goo heavy, moderate weight(a couple pounds, depending on the size) at most) on it just fine, and there are some angles where you can properly collapse it for storage. Yes, there are some magnetic ones/ones that use magnets instead, but only the middle one could be. Otherwise, they could(and would) interfere with each other. I've built one in two 2D physics games and don't have the proper 3D game to make one in :(
They all MUST look/be the same, otherwise it'll always fall over. They can lean all they want, and a gentle twist with kill it. The middle chain is always under *tension,* and the outer ones give it the *integrity* to stand tall.

2:05 Vellum is parchment, Lexi. It’s just super-thin pieces of treated and cured animal skin. It’s what book pages were made of before paper was widely available.
And when you made a mistake, they had a tool to scrape the ink off the vellum. Just don’t make too many mistakes in the same spot or you’ll get a hole.
Also books made of vellum and leather last for centuries before needing restoration while modern books are lucky to last a decade before they start falling apart! I only know this because my younger brother is in graduate school studying this kind of thing and likes to share tidbits about what he's learning with the rest of the family on weekly calls.
@@Ilikecatsismychannelname I got to write in a new vellum book at uni. I took a class that was half history/half art about the Book of Kells and one of the final projects was each student had to hand copy a page into the book. Even made us sit in the school chapel to do it.

Lexi, any bonsai of a fruiting family can fruit! Mum's project at the moment is an oak sapling, we have a few from the school I used to go to that we harvested and she's dead set on getting a bonsai since my pine kicked it (unrelated). I've seen people with oranges and cherry bonsais in past too

The two modules aren't connected via the wood, but it's the 4 side chains pulling the top part down, and the middle chain being too short to let the arc of the top part go any lower, that forces the top module to stay stable in place, floating essentially.
Its so simple you can search up a tutorial and build one from cardboard and string.

I worked in a restaurant where EVERY part of it had a tip jar or some other container, but even then only the servers and some of the cooks would actually get tips. I worked in the bakery and I also made dressings that were apparently good enough that people would just buy gallon containers of my dressings, yet I never got any tips despite the potential being there.
You can make bonsai from any tree, it's just require Patience and a lot of commitment to do it .

The table at 8:33 is being held up by the chains on the outside! You can get mini versions as well. It shows something called tensegrity or tensile integrity. Physics basically. There are lots of little novelty versions, but they’re usually pretty wobbly. I’d be interested to see how stable that table is with the chains
There is a chain in the center as well, which is the main sort of... key to the trick, that Lexi was trying to find! It's just really hard to see in the image we were given lol

the con is that humans like convenience, and you either have lots of shallow drawers, which might not fit tall things, or deep drawers, which means stuff gets buried at the bottom.
It's why you may have noticed a move to supermarkets to have chest fridges and freezers.
As someone who has restocked both, I much rather restocking the vertical ones, because I'd often find unrotated stock at the bottom of the chest ones.

16:25 this is a game. I played it with my grandkids this weekend and it was pretty fun, although it was mainly my partner and I putting the pieces and the kids turning over they cards as we hadn't realised how much dexterity would be needed for placing the pieces 😆
You take turns to turn over cards and tell you which shape piece to place, plus things like 'place 2 pieces this turn' 'reverse the order of play' 'skip a turn' etc. The fact that the base can rock, plus the fact that sometimes previous moves haven't left a very easy place to put your shape make it a more challenging game than it looks at first glance (which is why we had been fooled into thinking it would be age appropriate for grandkids only it find it's not) but we also found it possible to think a bit laterally to place pieces sometimes, like balancing a piece on the bits that stick out to the side of another piece rather than on top of the pile.
It's one of those games like jenga or various board games that can be played to suit tween age kids but can also can be played to suit a group of collage age or older and I'd definitely recommend it. My main complaint is that there are too few pieces which makes it a short game

Basically, what’s holding it up is not a center post or magnets; the chains are placed in such a precise way that the tension on them is enough to hold the upper portion of the table aloft and stable.
It looks like magic, but it’s engineering in action.
