    Couple of things he forgot to mention as I own a 2017xt.
    1. Active torque vectoring. Its whats in the WRX and the STI and helps reduce under steer. Makes it corner better even though it has more ground clearance. In sport# the thing hugs corners really well. You can feel the suspension really tighten up in sport# and in sport# the torque stays high and the turbo stays on boost so when you come out of the corner your ready to power out. A lot of fun actually in corners and seriously reduces body roll. I cant even feel the body roll in that setting.
    2. In the 2017 and 18 the XT has quicker gear ration steering. Definitely helps the handling response and you can tell while cornering.
    3. Does have a usb's but there in the center console. AT least the 2017 does.
    I can say I do miss the hood scoop and from what Ive seen, doesn't seem to effect the performance in anyway with the new setup. Ive actually seen 20lbs of boost and more common, when Im really getting into it, at 18-19lbs. I'll eventually get the hood scoop installed because I like the look.
    4. The XMode does have better control off road but basically is 4x4 low. You cant go over 25mph with it on but makes a huge difference in a bad situation with very low or no traction. What else it does is descent control built into the XMode. Meaning you can start on a hill from a stop and just let it go down the hill. With no brakes, wet, snowy, slippery, it doesn't matter the car will control your decent and automatically control your braking on each wheel to control you down the hill so you can focus on just steering. You can look up the stig did a review of the XMode specifically. Its really kool.
    Most people buy this car because they want safety. I bought it because of where im moving and my wife needed a new car and I wanted to make sure it would be okay in snow and I wanted some performance. She also needed to be able to get in and out easily. Basically you just sit from a standing position. Cant explain any differently you'll just have to try it yourself to see what Im talking about. Now, Its not a race car but this thing can move and out of all the small suv's NONE of them can keep up with the forester. The fastest ive had the thing was about 120+ on a curvy road that I shouldn't have had it on going that fast. Its a little top heavy but it did really well and I was racing a modified BRX..lol shhhh don't ell my wife.
    Im going to miss the forester XT though. The 2017 and 18 had the most torque and HP of any model before it and now they are going to be gone. I believe in the future they are going to put the 3.5? (6 cylinder) in it but its not the same. This is the first forester, the first Subaru Ive ever owned and unfortunately it'll be the last because of them discontinuing the XT. If your thinking about getting one, at least go down and test drive it. Put it in XMode on a hill, use the sport and sport# modes and you'll see why there so much fun. The looks of of peoples faces when you just take off in this thing, well, its priceless. Its not a camaro or a mustang but at times it gives you that type of driving feeling and 0-60 in 6.0sec not to bad and out of all the colors they offer I went with black on black with leather interior because it just looks good.

      The selection of Sport and Sport# does nothing to tighten up the suspension. Those selections only adjust the transmission, not the suspension. You may feel that way because you're able to drive it more aggressively and have the torque vectoring assist you in turns but the suspension is the same regardless of which transmission selection you choose. Have a 2018XT Touring and had a 2014XT Touring. Still, best driving all around sub-compact SUV out there.

    I have a 4 yr old Forester XT with 30,000 miles. Recently a service advisor at Subaru said Keep This Car! It is the most in demand because of the turbo, but I’m just a little old lady who rarely uses the turbo-ness (except on trips to Houston). Guess someday I’ll sell this to a young person.

    Thank You for this video! I just bought the last 2018 XT as a first owner, demo low miles. Had I not had a turbo Forester before (I bought the first ever with the scoop released in Louisiana in 2003), I would have bought the Mercedes SUV....It was a tough choice, as I always wanted a Mercedes, though I remember how the turbo Forester performed, and did not want to miss out on this last option. I am waiting for delivery, as it is coming cross country via enclosed carrier. Subaru is making a huge mistake by eliminating the turbo; I would be driving the Mercedes instead, had I not learned this is the last of the good stuff. Subaru needs to bring back the turbo so I can buy another in 10 years. I drove Saabs in between the Foresters, only to have that company bought out by China. I thought I would never own anything but a European car again, though if the Forester turbo never returns, this 2018 could well be my last Subaru.

    As a Subaru owner, it baffles me that Subaru ditched the Turbo variant for the Forester. About the direct fuel injection system, it was a shared technology from Toyota joint developement with Subaru on the the BRZ/GT86/FR-S. So there is a huge bump in performance both in power and torque delivery as compared to the EJ multi port fuel system.
    The reason they told the reporters is that only 5% of the Forester buyers picked the turbo version.
    The car initially was small but it grew bigger and bigger to the point that with my height. I cant reach the roof if i want to clean the car without a step stool.
    That is weird the Forester dont have a digital water temp guage and oil temp because the Crosstrek has the center digital guage which will show the oil and water temp.
    The 2019 Forester does look nice esp the Sports variant but they removed the manual parking brake for the Electronic brake. Which may prob be the deal breaker.

      With the equity that Toyota holds in Subaru's parent company as well as their recent R&D collaborations, I'd keep a close eye on Toyota technical development trends for the future of Subaru.
      I also wonder if Toyota's reliability best practices are also filtering into Subaru's design and implementation. That's generally a very good thing, but the trend might filter out higher performance, but slightly less reliable power plants. Note: that's not saying that the Subaru turbo power plants are unreliable, but there may be standards put into place that take some designs off of the table to meet long term reliability benchmarks which reduce warranty program liability.
      That gets a bit scary when you think about a WRX / STI re-vamp circa 2020. Attainable Toyota and Lexus "sports" models of late may be reliable as hell with respectable power plants and drive trains, but edgy, they are not.
      This is all speculation on my part, to be fair, but once corporate forces gain momentum, look out.

      >Who gives a fuck, the electronic one looks better and does the same thing.
      No, it doesn't, at least not for off road work. The manual handbrake is great for pulling the rear back into line if it wanders when going downhill.
      Electronic 'handbrakes' are really only parking brakes. Useless for anything else, including as an emergency brake.

    Ah, the XT conundrum: sales volume is touted by internet warriors as the reason for the XT's demise, but holy heck, the dealer inventory has been seriously lacking for years. Unless ordering an XT, it can be hard to find a new or even a CPO example on the dealer lots. And I'm in a region with a whole mess of Subaru dealerships.
    Don't forget about the Premium XT, too! It is a bit more bare bones relative to the Touring XT shown in the video, but you get the exact same power plant and AWD system for ~$6k MSRP less.
    Agreed that the seats could use more bolstering. That leather (prior to 2018) is slippery and any modest performance driving sends your bottom sliding left or right. It is not a pleasing situation if your commute is on the twisties. The Premium XT's "PVC" seating material has a bit more grip. If only the XT had alcantara seating surfaces! :)

    Great car! That is why car magazines and reviews do not even mention it. This XT Subaru beats lots of expensive SUVs 0-60 under 6.5 seconds. Reliable, no turbo lag, active vectoring, eye sight, blind spot, lane assist, space everywhere, visibility, remote start, Harman and Kardon sound. I do not understand Subaru finishing production of this model this year. Regular engine is crap. This model smokes the new 2019 Acura RDX and the Infinity Q50. And all for 10k less. Super car!! Nothing perfect: it is missing android auto and apple car play and also seats are hard and flat for long trips.

    Nice review. Now that the used vehicle market is finally starting to correct, CPO 2018 Forester Touring XTs without a ton of miles can be found in the mid $20s which is a fair price. I plan on picking one of these up very soon. I owned a 2019 WRX with this 2.0 DIT engine until recently and it's a gem in that car, very smooth and reliable. I recently ordered a 2023 Forester Touring, but I decided to cancel it since the prices on these XTs started falling. I can get one of these for at least $80000 less than a brand new Touring with no turbo.

    I think it is downright amazing that they skimp on the USB ports. These cost so little. I can buy a cable for very little at retail and it would cost Subaru even less. Yet, to get ports and high amp charging ports, you generally must pay for a very expensive trim or opt for a very expensive package in which to get these very useful and very inexpensive items. It's a poor decision to force the buyer into such expensive options for adequate and expected USB ports.

      Raiti's Rides Not sure because its still a Forester- a compact and affordable crossover for small active families. That’s the intention of it. Anything niche or serving the niche speed market would rather get a true, low to the ground, curb hugging car which is the purpose of the WRX. They tried for years with the XT but in the end time ran out on its final numbers.

      Going from the $26k 2.5i premium to the $29,500 xt premium (essentially a turbo upgrade only) is a pretty tough $3500 pill to swollow for someone shopping a budget vehicle. According to the EPA the 2.5i is 32mpg on the highway & the xt is 27. Considering premium fuel is roughly an 8% increase in price that gives the 2.5i roughly an 8 mpg increase on the highway which is the majority of most people's commutes. If someone drives 13000 miles a year driving a mixture of city & highway leaning more towards the latter the 2.5i owner (at least here in California) would be saving well over $400 a year in fuel cost which can help pay for their Starbucks addiction. Additionally with the introduction of the ascent i think Subaru would prefer to not cannibalize sales of their new much more profitable model by making their entry low hanging fruit model too enticing for people with much more cash to bleed.

    The cool thing about them is they actually have some basic off-road ability, so many SUV's don't have this considering they are suppose to be a "sports utility vehicle".

    As sad as it is to see them do away with the turbo version of the Forester it really does make sense coming from a business stand point. People just aren't buying sporty cars anymore. We as consumers are complaining about it but nobody goes out to buy one so they keep making them. Of course the economy is meh and things are expensive so it all really just comes down to it'sjust not a good time for them anymore. Not only that, I've spoken with some subaru salesmen who have told me the average subaru buyer is actually 60+ in age! Any young buyers are typically going for the brz, wrx, sti, and even maybe a crosstrek. Given how things are, I see and understand why subaru is doing what they are.

    Because lack of funds I've been waiting for a long time.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are referring as to why the engine is flat it is to lower the center of gravity!

  • @rhettdopwell9367
    @rhettdopwell9367 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This will be the last great Forester unless they make at least a special edition turbo at some point in the model life cycle of the new one. Value of these turbos will be high and held. It will be truly sad if they never make a turbo in the new one as the chassis improvements sound like they would welcome the higher performance. If however they made a hybrid or electric at the price of a turbo Subaru could be forgiven if the performance is at turbo level. I would also add that I don't buy the cost to produce vs the numbers argument since Subaru is now a very successful company and could well afford to loose a little just to keep a box checked. The only explanation is extreme greed that now that they could afford to they want to milk every cent at the expense of some of their most loyal customers. Subaru if you are listening you need a real performance SUV and CUV. The WRX alone is not going to cut it for the practical performance crowd any more than the new Forester will so what are you planning to do? You have refused to make a turbo version of the XV and now the Forester both of which have the potential to be awesome performance SUV/CUV. You have lost sales and credibility and it seems like you are loosing your passion and your way. Make new friends while keeping the old is a good guide. Are you planning some completely new models to fill the gaps left but the turbo? I really do hope you have something up your sleeve Subaru?

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could not agree with you more! I think now that this car is no more they should make a Crosstrek XV. I really believe that there is a market for that!
