Joe, which Forester wheels do you like better, the '18 Black Edition's or the '19 Sport Edition's? Both cool, but the '18 Black Ed.'s seem more aggressive. I'm getting a blue Sport and have the option to keep my wheels from the '18 and mount the '19's tires on them.
I'm considering trading my 2017 Impreza for a current gen Forester. I like the sport, but I too am not a fan of the orange trim or the CVT. I'd actually prefer to see the blacked out trim rather than orange or red, for a more stealthy look. I like the specs on this non turbo engine too. It has plenty of power for me, but still delivers decent fuel economy. I'd prefer a manual, but since this will be my daily driver for a 90 mile daily commute, fuel economy is my priority. Do you know if this new 2.5 is susceptible to the oil consumption issue? My Impreza drinks almost 2 qts over 5000 miles, so I'm a little gun shy on this family of engines. I know they've made some changes to the piston rings, but I want some verification that the problem has been resolved.
I have the exact color "Ice Metallic Silver" and i agree it looks the best out of the dark blue, white, black and grey color options as these including the ice metallic silver are the only color options available for the sport trim.
We get it, you don't care for the orange accents and want red... I dislike the Silver, but I'm not gonna keep harping on it. The Blue with the Orange looks really good. Correction: You do NOT get more power out of the Sport version, you only get the SI-Drive Sport 'Sharp' Mode. The Forester as a whole gained a few more horsepower over last year with the 2.5. Wanna know why Subaru ditched the Turbo? Because nobody bought it. Not because of Marketing and Sales, that and they only offered the Turbo in two trims, both were well over 30k; One being a loaded touring, and one being decontented down to a Premium model that couldn't really be optioned up to get the things people wanted. Follow that up with the 2.0T engine requiring Premium fuel, long term maintenance costs, getting lower fuel economy, and higher insurance costs and it really wasn't as practical as people would have liked.
I found your channel looking for Forester Sport vids. Very nice, Joe. It seems the only channel showing the silver paint. We're sold! The Sport is the most nicely equipped model with our "must have" cloth seats. We love the orange on black trim. Consider it the Harley (or applicable sports team) edition. We wouldn't want a premium-fuel turbo model. We plan to buy a 2020 Sport with Subaru's aluminum front skid plate and replace the tires with stock size Yokohama Geolander All-Terrain with 3PMSF rating--for unmaintained dirt roads, especially in winter. We'll carry a NOCO jump starter, Viair compressor, Harbor Freight bottle jack, and WARN recovery strap with two 3/4" screw-pin shackles--just basic soft-road gear. It would be nice if the paddle shifters could adjust the hill descent speed in X-Mode. I miss the symmetry of dual exhausts and might powdercoat the exhaust tip black to make the single exhaust less obvious. Thanks for your video!
Hey Rati's Rides good video. I'm considering the new Forrester or the new rav4 . Which one do you think will be a better buy? I'm leaning towards rav4.
@@RaitisRides yes awd is a must . I'm so worried about Subaru cvt.but I know someone who bought one and Subaru fave them a 10 year or 100000 mile warranty on it. But the rav4 hybrid has awd. I might go with rav4.
I have a 2015 Forester XT. So glad I went with the turbo, it flies. Too bad they discontinued it. These crossovers need the extra pep. I also have a 2008 Legacy that has the 2.5 engine they still shove into most of these subies and its too slow. I might look at the new Ford Edge ST now soon.
Just cause they made eyesight equipped with all trims we don't get manual, what about if Subaru makes all automatic transmission come equipped with eyesight and another option for manual 6 speed with a turbo engine
If I was Fuji I would have added 220 HP with 215 Torque with non-turbo this way the sport trim would stand out more with dual exhaust I agree with you as well as red line not orange. The color is good with silver, red, dark gray, and black or white for sport trim only!
Looking at 2021 Subaru Outback's and Forester's and stumbled on your review. Overall very good, but missed a few key points imo. 1. Sunroof - need to remind people how big the opened roof is which huge and likely the largest in the industry. 2. How can you review an SUV without getting into the cargo compartment? 3. For those who will you the roof rack, most SUV's have restrictive rack/weight capacity when also equipped with a pano roof whereas the Forester can handle a couple touring kayaks easily...
Star date: July 4, 2019. I am watching and commenting on this video several month later, because I have temporarily acquired a silver base model Forester with just over 8K miles for two days, from Enterprise, hence the stargate comment. Hehe... I needed a midsized SUV for my house move for 2 days, Wednesday morning pickup before my 12 hour work shift, and back Friday morning, the day after the holiday before I return to work. I picked it up and went straight to Walmart and crammed an unbelievable $200 worth of things for my new place in one shopping cart, and fit it in the rear hatch area withbthe seats up, but the Forester had to sit for 12 hours. Today, I gotta shuttle(craft) things I can, that don't need to call the movers for conveniently to my new place about 3 blocks down the street, and maybe another quick run to Walmart, Home Depot and a food run for lunch. I wish I had time to spend to play around with all the feature and such, maybe early Friday morning before I gas it up and return it, if I get everything done today. Okay, since I have the explanation done, my comments on the Forester IMHO. Beggars can't be choosy, I thought I might have gotten a new Toyota Rav4, though I know it wouldn't be an Adventure, of sorts. Lol Ivwas pleased to find it was a Forester, albeit a base one, I stead if a Nussan or something else to put all my options coverages for thecrwntal to use. Haha. To start, I am just renting it, and when getting a new vehicle, unless it's a real nice one I want to own, kero, and personalize, I may just try to lease it, like an HR-V Sport, even if I add lots of the factory accessories. So yeah, I only have this for 2 days, so don't have long term concerns as an owner, or lease, but I like it. It's roomy, but not too big. I'm trying to get used to having a reverse camera. The base radio sounds fair, but it has Apple Car Play and Android Auto I am not going to waste time playing with, but it has an auxiliary audio input jack, and a CD Player! So, when I leave the old place soon, I am grabbing my favorite mix CD for my cruising tunes. It handles well, and us comfortable and nice, even for a base trim. I wouldn't mind this as a daily driver, or extended use if I didn't have to pay for the expense. Of course it's not styling like the Sport, but overall, it looks decently nice. The only thing I don't like is the base wheels and hubcaps. The various OEM alloy wheels look pretty nice. Not my first choice if I had one, but if it were an issue company care, I would be happy with this with allot wheels, and the rear cargo cover. I may comment more if I have anything to add, but this us a nice SUV for what it is, and it probably would not be a problem like maybe some if the higher output performance Subies, since I don't drive crazy and push it. Happy 4th, if you read this today. I must return to the Enterprise. Beam me up Scotty!
Excellent review Joe. Just one question. I've taken on a job as a Forest Ranger, should I be driving a Subaru Forester or a Ford Ranger? And remember Joe, Only YOU can prevent forest fires! Save the Wave, except no waving at fires!
Great vehicle love the style. But can use more HP and Torque as you are going to be using for All Terrain and going up hills. And I agree RED trim would have been better.
I think part of the problem is the seat bottoms are so flat. I have a '16 OB and seats aren't perfect either. But is improvement over the '13 OB I had. They were terrible seats.
Hey Raiti if you can please review the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta Sport before the year ends it would mean a lot if you did. Btw keep up the great work man! 👍😉
I am curious what the smallest diameter wheel that will fit. I wonder if I could use the 16" steelies I use on the Crosstrek on this Forester Sport for a set of snow tires.
@@RaitisRides Tomorrow I am going to talk to the sales person who sold me my '16 Crosstrek about trading in for the '19 Forester Sport. I also wonder if there is a trailer hitch accessory for the Forester Sport. I am looking at a white Subaru Forester Sport, and hoping to reuse my 16" steel wheels from my Crosstrek and reusing them on the '19 Forester Sport with a new set of Blizzard WS80 tires.
@@RaitisRides I reached out to Subaru and they said the hitch accessory part " Part # L101SSJ000 - Trailer Hitch - 2019 Forester - Class One Hitch, Receiver Size 1 1/4 Inch, 150 Pound Tougue Weight. 1,500 Towing Capacity."
I am not always able to test drive the cars. It all depends what the dealership allows. I try to do the best that I can with what I am given. I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I like better the forester rather than the rav4 because the rav4 adventure costs $36k and it doesn’t have a really nice looking interior. The panoramic sunroof is not standard, it’s optional so you gotta pay more. The rav4 tailgate takes to long to open and close but the forester tailgate opens and closes more quickly. The rav4 infotainment system is laggy and old and exterior not well looking. Also with the rav4 lineup, awd is optional so you gotta pay more and fwd is standard in the rav4 lineup. But the forester sport is a better option over the rav4 because it’s $29k which is cheaper than the rav4 the forester sport internet comes standard which orange ascents and cloth seats. Also the forester infotainment system is modern and it’s less laggy than rav4 infotainment system. Also the panoramic sunroof is standard in the forester sport and in any forester trim level. And the forester is a bit more fuel efficient than the rav4 because of forester cvt transmission. Also the forester has 8.7 inches of ground clearance which the rav4 adventure has 8.6 inches of ground clearance which means that the forester has one more inch of ground clearance than the rav4. Also awd comes standard in every Subaru vehicle and it’s cheap which awd in Toyota is optional and you gotta pay more for awd and fwd is standard in Toyota suvs except trucks. With $29k you can get the rav4 limited standard fwd, but you can also get the forester sport for $29k. So I’ll definitely I’ll buy and drive home the forester sport. Also use my forester for camping and long road trips and adventure and upgrade it into a serious off road worthy like off road trucks. Excellent job Subaru 👍🏼
dual exhaust is useless if its one pipe splitting into two...true dual exhaust is cool...one pipe to one muffler saves money when needing to replace it
Thanks for the great review I’m currently driving a 2016 Forester premium and looking at your review I decided to go with the sport trim value wise plus some additional touches that will work for me ( sport sharp ) and it has to be silver!
Yeah, but does it djent? (If you play guitar that's damn funny.) ... Anyway, I've never had a Subaru but every single person I've ever met with one, and I mean EVERYONE, loves these things. I don't love the looks, it is what it is, but mechanically these things are top grade. The interior was way better than I expected. AWD and 5-star safety is a great selling feature if you're in the market for a family vehicle (sedan, SUV, whatever). Cheers, Joe.
M McBride I had an outback and put 136k on it. Good family car but far from bulletproof. Only car that ever left my family broken down on the interstate. Transmission is highly suspect and was about to fail. That said it had many positive aspects. I would get another but will check Toyota first.
Just picked up a Forester Sport for my wife. Since we live in the mountains, we certainly take advantage of the AWD and Manual mode to have fun in the twisties and to pass those slower cars. A turbo version with 6-speed transmission would’ve been perfect for this car. I enjoy the confidence charging into mountain corners at 60+ where I would be more cautious of my G37 Sport sliding out on me. At the end of the day, my wife loves her new car.. so I’m happy lol
So I went to my nearest Subaru dealership to get this car in black, apparently they wanted me to pay $600 a month for it so I ended up keeping my 2017 Legacy Limited. Went home pretty bummed out since I thought I’d walk away with a new car for my Birthday with the Black Friday deal. 😭
hey buddy! i comment a few months ago in one of your videos about the sti Ra telling you that i owned one. well... i had a surgery and had to get rid of the RA. cant drive stick for a few months. so...guess what ..got a forester sport. lol. i'm stick with you and your videos. lol
I think Subaru needs to develop an inline 6 for these larger SUV/Crossover vehicles. Four cylinders with no turbo does not generate enough power in my humble opinion.
@@RaitisRides Turbo charged inline 6 will help their WRX STi tremendously. Just look at the old Supra, the GTR, and the Porsche 911 are great examples. There's only so much you can do with a 4 cylinders engine. Or they can go electric. The Jaguar I-Pace has almost 400 horsepower.
@@RaitisRides Hyundai/KIA has zero experience in sports car, so they hired Albert Biermann, former Head of BMW M Division, and Peter Schreyer, the famous Audi Designer, to work on their performance cars. If there is a will.....
On the cheap end, the new Honda HR-V Sport AWD is really nice, almost tempting to get over the Civic Sport Hatchback for the price, even with less HP, because of the increased utility with the magic seats to go on Costco or other store runs, etc. I think I previously mentioned all the things I liked about the Impreza Sport Hatchback and Crosstrek Limited, but when I saw this new Forester Sport, it became the perfect practical vehicle that is just about $35K with all the factory options and accessories, sans the dealer markup. The styling refresh is perfect, with the black out treatment and the rest. The orange looks okay, though red would be nice, I think for the interior, it pops more than red. It is probably harder to tell on video, than IRL. I agree there should be dual exhaust tips, especially with the rear bumper contours, but I guess it's great to have the Symmetrical styling so you could possibly cut out the left for aftermarket exhaust. My 2006 Chevy Impala SS had Flowmasters that sounded sweet. I liked the midnight blue, black, or charcoal great, but with the color accents, the silver does look nice, and would be a serious consideration. Interior styling is likewise nice. Again, dual zone climate control not a biggie. The radio with smartphone interfaces and CD player and Harmon Kardon system is perfect. The seats on the sport are more comfortable than the lower trims, from what I have heard. The bottom may be firm for a reason, like police patrol cruisers for long hours behind the wheel to be more supportive. I believe the hatch opening is wider than the previous one, and I like the door lock switch in tailgate hatch. The engine is sufficient. The Turbo WRX engine would be nice for an option, but for the price point, longevity, reliability and least TLC needed than with a turbo for warm up and cool down, I believe Subaru knows what it is doing, like Honda does for its Civic Sport Hatchback, and the new Sport Sedan and Coupe for the right balance, just like the Impreza Sport Hatchback. I think both carmakers market these models well for their target consumers. I also agree, a good conventional automatic transmission would be better than a CVT, which is primarily for fuel economy, but many are problematic and break down after an unreasonably short period of service, with expensive rebuild cost. Otherwise, this makes the popular and very practical Forester so much better. Possibly the best overall SUV in this class. The Sport has everything I would want, the Limited and Touring, like the Impreza loses all the performance and appearance tweaks of the Sport models.
I always love to hear when reviews would cite what is not so good, or what improvements are needed. It only means the review is never biased and always honest. Good job, two thumbs up!

@@RaitisRides yes awd is a must . I'm so worried about Subaru cvt.but I know someone who bought one and Subaru fave them a 10 year or 100000 mile warranty on it. But the rav4 hybrid has awd. I might go with rav4.
scaldon2 I’ll let you know as soon as see it! It seems like a great option for you!
@@RaitisRides thanks take care
scaldon2 you are so very welcome!
No turbo no sport and fun. Orange color will not add power :) Farewell XT
I totally agree with you!
I heard the orange accents adds like 30 horsepower
Actually it is 28.7 HP. ;-)
turbo xt older gen is gonna go through the roof used prices.... but then again, Silverado, a fullsize truck is now a 4cyl
They should do a RED color on their Forester Sport and put a 2nd exost at the back as well
Oh a video again from this awesome channel
You are so freaking sweet! Thank you!
@@RaitisRides welcome
Piano black will be a nightmare to clean and keep pristine.
Doesn't make sense to use it for the grill, looks good now but won't last.
Thank you for your input and perspective! Thank you so much for watching!
I totally agree with you! Thank you for sharing your input and perspective!
The legacy wasnt too bad but, mines was a 5 speed miss that car
That was the way to go!
Unfortunately, the orange trim looks cheesy to me. I like the black accents with the silver, but inside and out all that orange needs to be tossed
I totally agree with you!
Would make a more workable choice for real world storm chasing, good mileage with AWD. I like the seat pockets, somewhere to keep my car mags.
It's a really cool Subaru! Plenty of pockets for those!
Just cause they made eyesight equipped with all trims we don't get manual, what about if Subaru makes all automatic transmission come equipped with eyesight and another option for manual 6 speed with a turbo engine
I totally agree with you! Thank you for sharing your input and perspective!
see above comment
orange accent is for safety reasons.. much easier to see in bad weather than red... much easier to see at night than red..
If I was Fuji I would have added 220 HP with 215 Torque with non-turbo this way the sport trim would stand out more with dual exhaust I agree with you as well as red line not orange. The color is good with silver, red, dark gray, and black or white for sport trim only!
Now that would be a wonderful setup!
I really love the Orange accenting it's awesome 👌
Looking at 2021 Subaru Outback's and Forester's and stumbled on your review. Overall very good, but missed a few key points imo. 1. Sunroof - need to remind people how big the opened roof is which huge and likely the largest in the industry. 2. How can you review an SUV without getting into the cargo compartment? 3. For those who will you the roof rack, most SUV's have restrictive rack/weight capacity when also equipped with a pano roof whereas the Forester can handle a couple touring kayaks easily...
Thanks for the great info Robert!
Nice video was looking at this subaru but I might wait for the Honda passport with a v6
Thank you for the compliment! It will be some interesting competition for the Subaru!
Jesse Valdez there's also about $10k seperating them. I just don't like Honda's SUVs look like minivans.
@@Michael-ur5qb true I think I might wait for the 2020 Subaru legacy now lol or the Mazda 3 AWD

I sorry, but the unique sport in this truck is the name...what do you think Raiti? grettings ang excellent video.
I rather have a 2018 Forester XT. Thank you for the compliments!
I like the orange because it looks so good on the blue model. For me red doesn't work at all with blue or green.
Green isn't an option for Sport
Excellent review Joe. Just one question. I've taken on a job as a Forest Ranger, should I be driving a Subaru Forester or a Ford Ranger? And remember Joe, Only YOU can prevent forest fires! Save the Wave, except no waving at fires!
P.S. to my above comment. I always wondered why/how the name "Boxer Engine" came about. See, you can still teach an old dog something. lol
I am so glad that you liked this one! If you have a dog with you it has to be the Subaru! You can wave at fires as long as you are making smores!
That's how I make the magic happen!
That is true and we can also wave at your channel, because it is definitely ON FIRE! Congrats on breaking through 16k subscribers!
I am totally blown away! Thank you for being part of it!
Sorry, I don’t think the Sport trim gets any more hp than the other trims. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for the heads up I appreciate the extra info!
Great vehicle love the style. But can use more HP and Torque as you are going to be using for All Terrain and going up hills. And I agree RED trim would have been better.
I totally agree with you!
Nice SUV but no turbo is a downer for me Joe. Nice report!
I totally agree with you!
The hard seats was a huge complaint with the out going Forester. The Outback does a much better job when it comes to comfort.
I couldn't agree with you more!
I think part of the problem is the seat bottoms are so flat. I have a '16 OB and seats aren't perfect either. But is improvement over the '13 OB I had. They were terrible seats.
So which one would you choose Joe, this or a Ford Explorer Sport?
I think you are getting more bang for your buck with the Forester. Plus the resale value is really wonderful!
They dont even compete.
You are so correct!
thanks for this it opened my eyes to other opportunities not ever been a small car person but maybe possible. thanks again🐬🐬
I am so glad that you enjoyed this one! Thank you for your awesome support of the channel!
To each his own. I like orange considerably better than red!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one!
Hey Raiti if you can please review the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta Sport before the year ends it would mean a lot if you did. Btw keep up the great work man! 👍😉
I think I am going to be able to get one tomorrow! Fingers crossed! Thank you for the motivation!
@@RaitisRides Yay!! Hopefully it happens ❤️🤞😊
Come hell or high water!
I am curious what the smallest diameter wheel that will fit. I wonder if I could use the 16" steelies I use on the Crosstrek on this Forester Sport for a set of snow tires.
I would think you could go with a 16" steelies with no issues!
That is a very good question about the trailer hitch! That would be an awesome setup! Please let me know how it goes!
Has the 26/33 mileage been proven to be correct? From what hearing, people aren't getting this mileage.
So no test drive?
I am not always able to test drive the cars. It all depends what the dealership allows. I try to do the best that I can with what I am given. I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
New styling is from a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander?
You think so?
Will be Subaru Levorg rewiew ?
We don't have access to that car here in the USA. :-(
Am I the only one that likes the new Forester? Despite not having a turbocharged engine.
Not at all! It is a really nice vehicle!
@@RaitisRides It is. There just seems to be a lot of hate online because there's no more turbo.
Ryan Littleton maybe if all those people had been passionate about buying one it would still be around. 5% is pretty terrible in sales for the turbo.
@@Michael-ur5qb 100% FACTS

Not to mention it would actually enhance this Forester's overall performance (if not add more horsepower).
Yes Subaru should have accented the Sport trim in Red.
They look sick inside and out!!! I drove one tho it was super slow wasnt time to grow up yet so I bought the STI lol
I totally understand where you are coming from!
This vehicle is like the 1980s Fiero; all looks with No go. I know. Drove one for two weeks in the mountains.

😂 You said it brother
Does this new Forester have a functional trunk? Didn't see it open at all in this video lol
Oh yes it does!
Here watch this one:

dual exhaust is useless if its one pipe splitting into two...true dual exhaust is cool...one pipe to one muffler saves money when needing to replace it
Thanks for sharing that great input!
Wish they had the leather option for the Sport.
I totally agree with you!
Same engine across all trims, Sport does not have more HP.
Thank you for that extra info! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for the great review I’m currently driving a 2016 Forester premium and looking at your review I decided to go with the sport trim value wise plus some additional touches that will work for me ( sport sharp ) and it has to be silver!
Thank you for the compliment! You are going to love this Forester!
You hit the nail on the head about the Subaru owners! I wished I knew how to play the guitar!
Congrats on your wife's new Subaru Forester! What color did she get?
Trust me I am a firm believer in the statement, "happy wife equals happy life!"
@@RaitisRidesShe got the Dark Blue Pearl!
Haha AMEN to that!
tcbmellowd I like the blue the best! Great choice!
That's insane! I wonder why the payment was so high? What dealership did you go to?
So many factors go into a payment lol. Please.
I’ll stick with my 2015 manual transmission Forester. Looks beautiful though!
Yeah they did make a good looking Forester, but they are just taking away the variety of options to choose from!
I wait 1 or 2 years to see if a Turbo Forester comes out or a special edition turbo Forester 😁😍
You may be waiting a while! It's kind of sad!
Its not coming back. Y would Subaru bring,it back when they can sell a inferior sport model for the same price.
It was poor marketing by Subaru and salespeople who do not know their product!
Everybody go spam Subaru to make an XT model, I have a 2014 XT and I absolutely love it, also start a petition for Subaru to make an XT version
They should not hav got rid of the XT!
hey buddy! i comment a few months ago in one of your videos about the sti Ra telling you that i owned one. well... i had a surgery and had to get rid of the RA. cant drive stick for a few months. so...guess what ..got a forester sport. lol. i'm stick with you and your videos. lol
Can you review a AWD trailblazer SS?
I will try to get something together! I am getting hooked up with a Chevy dealership so the flood gates may open!
Nice video keep it up!
Thank you so much for your great support!
I think Subaru needs to develop an inline 6 for these larger SUV/Crossover vehicles. Four cylinders with no turbo does not generate enough power in my humble opinion.
They need to continue use of their turbo technology that they have developed and used for so many years.
The problem is Subaru has ZERO experience with that engine layout.
@@RaitisRides Hyundai/KIA has zero experience in sports car, so they hired Albert Biermann, former Head of BMW M Division, and Peter Schreyer, the famous Audi Designer, to work on their performance cars. If there is a will.....

This is a review only of how it looks?
This is a review of all facets of the Forester.
May I know exactly the name of the color please, is silver is the name of the color straight ???
Icy silver metallic
Thank you so much for your super detailed message I really appreciate you taking the time to share your input and perspective!
The only leather on the interior is the steering wheel and around the shift. The rest is pleather not real leather.
Thank you so much for that extra info and for watching!
Dont worry turbo guys the orange accents adds 50 horses.
It's actually 55 HP! ;-)
