Joe needs to have Brian back on! Really enjoy listening to Brian discuss astrophysics, and pretty much anything else. Very humble, soft-spoken, and as courteous of a guy as you can have on.
It’s so refreshing to see such a brilliantly intelligent man that doesn’t look down on us mere mortals. He explains things in such a way that caters for everybody. I could burst with admiration of his humility.
Brian cox got me so interested in science about 20 years ago. Iv watched him traverse through his career and he hasn't changed a bit. He is hands down my favorite physicist and possibly even my favorite figure head. He helped me pass so many classes, gave me an understanding of complex things that used to baffle me. He is a treasure, he should be way more known than any of the celebrities out there.
One of the best Joe Rogan shows so far. Touched on so many good topics. Brian Cox is really good at explaining. Joe is really good at asking the right question and letting the guest speak.

Brian will live to over 100 years old... easy. Sitting in front of Joe, he was about 52 at the time but looks like he's in his 20's. His mellow demeanor and overall air of happiness is something we should all strive for.
That's due to severe time dilation. Brian Cox is actually a black hole. From our perspective, he hardly ages. From his frame of reference, however, everything's normal.
Brian constantly mentioning that he does not know certain things and rather mentioning what could be the articulated possibility shows he's a true learner. What a brilliant conversation that was. I spent the whole 2 and a half hours completely immersed in it. He's a gem of human.

Joe Rogan is is such a curious and insightful interviewer. When people say the people that Joe brings onto his shows are so intelligent, they forget the fact that only two highly intellectual beings can have such interestingly mind-boggling conversations. I mean I am astonished and awestruck by how many things he knows and his ability to ask the questions that he does. Thank you Joe for having the ability to extract such interesting conversations from anyone you interview, you truly are a genius!
There are a lot of things I don't agree with Joe's views. But my interest isn't about him, my interest are about the conversations. In most of his videos he brings out some legit questions and I like how he actually listens and interact with the conversations. He doesn't cloud or blurs out the answers from his guests. So, I like listening to most of his podcasts. Others don't catch my fancy, but a lot of times he does bring in some interesting guest.
A very closed minded person I know called Rogan “a gateway to the alt right” in an attempt to write him off completely. Granted, this was 3 years ago and Joe has evolved since then, but any intelligent person could see his honestly and open-mindedness.
Great interviewer, the best color UFC guy in the business, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, Taekwondo black belt, semi-pro pool player, avid bow hunter, proponent of weed legalization, healthy eater, exercises frequently and ignores requests to do movies because he wants to be home more. Absolutely. thats his gift, explaining concepts that the layman can understand. i went to see Michio Kaku a few years ago having read a couple of his books and felt the talk was directed at schoolchildren, he explained everything like he was talking to a bunch of school kids when in fact it was a hall full of adults who had most likely read his books, the best part of the night was when the audience got to ask questions. thats when the real in depth stuff got talked about. there were heaps of super smart people in the audience that were well educated and could grasp the concepts and got to the really indepth stuff and thats when it got interesting, if there had been no q&a from the audience it would have been boring as shit. Brian Cox has the gift of explaining stuff that we normals can understand without being treated like dumbos. He's by far the best at conveying these concepts in a way most people can grasp. And best of all you can tell he's completely absorbed ih his field, he clearly loves sharing his knowledge in a way normal folk can understand. seems to be devoid of ego, just full of wonder, I think he is fantastic,

Joe is at his best as an interviewer when he knows he doesn’t know anything about what the interviewee is talking about, and he just asks simple questions that regular people want to know and lets them talk.
Incorrect to say "..he doesn't know anything..". Joe does have a better understanding of some of the concepts than an average guy coz of his genuine curiosity.
When they talked about light sabers and when Joe said it’s kinda dumb that we can see the lightsaber move. He obviously doesn’t know how it works. In that universe, people with the force move faster than the eye can see
I can listen to Brian Cox all day. I love how in awe of this universe he is. And we all are. He is the best teacher I have ever listened to. His knowledge and passion for the discovery of things in the universe is just so inspiring to a humble man like me. For anyone reading this comment please get yourself out there in the blackest on nights and stargaze. Have the wonder of this life and where we are in this universe and enjoy the mysteries that are in front of us. I guarantee it would not be a second wasted
Probably the best episode Joe has ever done - he’s engrossed and Brian could just go on and on as he’s enjoying to too. They get on very well. He loves his area of pursuit and communicating it in an appropriate manner for more universal understanding. He’s just a great educator and keeps it enlightening and engaging and fun. The Sean Carroll episodes are fantastic too. Sean is on the same level as Brian Cox as a science communicator. Brian is a little more charming but Sean is equally as articulate and adept at explaining things in laymen's terms.
That's where so many teachers fail. When they express no enthusiasm the students don't feel comfortable with excitement over anything, and learning is of course far more boring.

@@katinkaaa2951 I think that’s partly because they find it difficult to be enthusiastic about the simplest of scientific principles. Imagine being a kids football (soccer to the freak shows) coach and find the tactics and adaptation to different teams and game plans interesting, but you’re stuck trying to teach them how to kick the ball properly. Same for some teachers I imagine.
@Nerd in Disguise As true as that is, teachers have to be the ones to engage the students, students go from class to class, it is usually a few hours before they get to your one, and by then all they think about it to leave.. So the teacher has to be the one to engage, that's what they should be paid to do.. Teacher can't be the one to feed off of student responses, atleast for the first few weeks as the students get accomodated to the subject.

I remember reading somewhere that as a child he was infatuated with Carl Sagan and his show Cosmos. It tuned him into the curiosity of the cosmos and its mysteries.

During 2020 I was working nights and she was teaching virtually and I got to see first hand what she deals with on a daily basis. My county voted against a proposal to raise teacher pay 2 years ago via a measly $7/mo increase in tax and now everyone is wondering why there is a teacher shortage here. A decent amount of our teachers, including my wife, moved to a district one county over because they pay *slightly* better.
Imagine how pissed off you would be if you where on a journey of 100 years interstellar and you get overtaken by the ship with superior tech (speed) which set off 50 years after you did?

Its fashionable to make fun of Joe, but theres a reason he has the most successful podcast of all time. He represents the average uninformed listener who may or may not know much about the topics his guests are specialists in.
The episodes with guys like Brian are the best because Joe knows to when to actually shut up and listen and he actually asks decent questions from a layman's perspective.
Man the difference between this guy and Neil “lemme interrupt you real quick” Degrasse Tyson is like day and night. This dude is so polite and genuinely excited about the stuff they’re talking about and he’s even explaining stuff in a way the average person would understand.

@@jackgavan9624 I have spent a lot of time in the UK and my observations are that Britons are full of themselves. Every time I left the UK and arrived back in the United States I could tell a big difference in the animation of both countries. In the United States people seem much happier and more friendly with strangers. I have traveled the world and have never seen another country that comes even close to the United States.
A great podcast. I am always impressed with how Joe holds his own in these conversations. Not so much due to his knowledge, which he openly admits is limited, but having just enough knowledge to engage Brian to allow him to expand on these amazing subjects. Brian is truly a gift to us. Really enjoy listening to him.
People who so easily dismiss actors as knowing little forget that they are TRAINED to MEMORIZE a massive amount of data in a short period of time. You can't be stupid to do that. And that means something. Imagine George Clooney given say 10 pages of medical jargon PER WEEK for YEARS, when even people training to be REAL doctors might have trouble remembering. The fact Joe was on a sitcom and had to memorize dialogue, or even his comedy routine, it isn't surprising to me he knows so much about so many things in general. And you could argue Joe isn't even a SERIOUS actor. Someone like Anthony Edwards, also on ER had mORE medical Jargon to remember for years longer than George. AND MAYBE we all hope we could get a doctor as seeemingly compassionate as Edwards appeared onscreen.

20 minutes into the podcast and this guy is amazing. He is so chill and smart but talks at a pace that you can follow and understand what he is talking about. I haven't felt overwhelmed by him yet. Keep it up Joe!
Brian possesses every positive attribute an educator can have. I can imagine students fighting over seats for his lectures. His demeanor while guiding listeners through the most challenging concepts of this era never waivers in enthusiasm. Also his wealth of knowledge is just plain scary. What an awesome podcast....
Aside from empathy. He doesn't seem to understand why people want more from life. "What more do you want?" Not everyone wants to be an explorer or cares about exploring the universe, they just want to find purpose. He seems not to understand that (or feigns not understanding.)

Jamie put a limiter plugin and bring up the threshold on the master channel inside your UAD mixer console. The overall volume is very low and this will fix that.

Joe is curious, and is able to follow and ask good questions. He listens carefully to his guests and is fascinated by them. He is not a physicist, like many of us here. But thats why we like him. We relate to him.
Until he has a guest who's funnier than him. Then he seemingly gets intimidated and starts interrupting & derailing conversations for no apparent reason. (See Theo Von's recent podcast for a great example)
Joe is not always like that. Anyone he remotely disagreees with or is coming from a different point of view or is skeptical about he’ll talk down to and over them, cut them and not listen or get drunk and be a dick

The difference in approach between Cox and Neil deGrasse Tyson is stark. NDT is so bombastic and tries to convey the awesomeness of these concepts through his delivery, whereas Brian just calmly explains our understanding of the universe and let’s the reality speak for itself.
Small clips of NDT are great, but as soon as you watch him in an interview for more than 10 mins he is very annoying. Unless it’s with Theo Von. Then it works.

I'm not a scientist but I think what he's saying is if you used a laser, and pointed it over the horizon you would see the Earth curvature, while when it's used in space, there is none.... If I remember correctly they used a couple of lasers, and pointed them in such a way as to make a < shape. There was no measurable curve that you would expect in a sphere shaped expanding universe.
@@RickySpanish12344 easier to think of it as that on the largest scales, parallel lines will stay parallel forever, and the angels of a triangle add up to 180 degrees. Neither of those would be true in a universe with positive or negative curvature. He doesn't mean flat as in the universe is 2D (which it might be btw check out the holographic principle) he just means that geometry is the same as it would be on a 2D surface which is the whole parallel lines and triangle thing.

I love the fact that Joe doesn't pretend to understand some of this, and will honestly say that he can't understand it, allowing Brian to explain something in a different way. Not many interviewers have the capacity and honesty to do this.

Best way i think about "million" "billion" and "trillion" is as follows: a Million takes 12 days to count to. A billion takes 32 years to count to and a trillion takes 32,000 years to count to. (The exact values have all been rounded up or down). This just shows the extreme differences between the numbers.

Brian constantly mentioning that he does not know certain things and rather mentioning what could be the articulated possibility shows he's a true learner. What a brilliant conversation that was. I spent the whole 2 and a half hours completely immersed in it. He's a gem of human.

Joe Rogan is is such a curious and insightful interviewer. When people say the people that Joe brings onto his shows are so intelligent, they forget the fact that only two highly intellectual beings can have such interestingly mind-boggling conversations. I mean I am astonished and awestruck by how many things he knows and his ability to ask the questions that he does. Thank you Joe for having the ability to extract such interesting conversations from anyone you interview, you truly are a genius!
There are a lot of things I don't agree with Joe's views. But my interest isn't about him, my interest are about the conversations. In most of his videos he brings out some legit questions and I like how he actually listens and interact with the conversations. He doesn't cloud or blurs out the answers from his guests. So, I like listening to most of his podcasts. Others don't catch my fancy, but a lot of times he does bring in some interesting guest.

A very closed minded person I know called Rogan “a gateway to the alt right” in an attempt to write him off completely. Granted, this was 3 years ago and Joe has evolved since then, but any intelligent person could see his honestly and open-mindedness.

Absolutely. thats his gift, explaining concepts that the layman can understand. i went to see Michio Kaku a few years ago having read a couple of his books and felt the talk was directed at schoolchildren, he explained everything like he was talking to a bunch of school kids when in fact it was a hall full of adults who had most likely read his books, the best part of the night was when the audience got to ask questions. thats when the real in depth stuff got talked about. there were heaps of super smart people in the audience that were well educated and could grasp the concepts and got to the really indepth stuff and thats when it got interesting, if there had been no q&a from the audience it would have been boring as shit. Brian Cox has the gift of explaining stuff that we normals can understand without being treated like dumbos. He's by far the best at conveying these concepts in a way most people can grasp. And best of all you can tell he's completely absorbed ih his field, he clearly loves sharing his knowledge in a way normal folk can understand. seems to be devoid of ego, just full of wonder, I think he is fantastic,

Joe is at his best as an interviewer when he knows he doesn’t know anything about what the interviewee is talking about, and he just asks simple questions that regular people want to know and lets them talk.

The Sean Carroll episodes are fantastic too. Sean is on the same level as Brian Cox as a science communicator. Brian is a little more charming but Sean is equally as articulate and adept at explaining things in laymen's terms.

That's where so many teachers fail. When they express no enthusiasm the students don't feel comfortable with excitement over anything, and learning is of course far more boring.

Imagine being a kids football (soccer to the freak shows) coach and find the tactics and adaptation to different teams and game plans interesting, but you’re stuck trying to teach them how to kick the ball properly. Same for some teachers I imagine.
@Nerd in Disguise As true as that is, teachers have to be the ones to engage the students, students go from class to class, it is usually a few hours before they get to your one, and by then all they think about it to leave.. So the teacher has to be the one to engage, that's what they should be paid to do..
Teacher can't be the one to feed off of student responses, atleast for the first few weeks as the students get accomodated to the subject.

I remember reading somewhere that as a child he was infatuated with Carl Sagan and his show Cosmos. It tuned him into the curiosity of the cosmos and its mysteries.
I was lucky enough to still be in school when he was making tv programs and they showed them in science classes it was my favourite

During 2020 I was working nights and she was teaching virtually and I got to see first hand what she deals with on a daily basis. My county voted against a proposal to raise teacher pay 2 years ago via a measly $7/mo increase in tax and now everyone is wondering why there is a teacher shortage here. A decent amount of our teachers, including my wife, moved to a district one county over because they pay *slightly* better.
Imagine how pissed off you would be if you where on a journey of 100 years interstellar and you get overtaken by the ship with superior tech (speed) which set off 50 years after you did?

The episodes with guys like Brian are the best because Joe knows to when to actually shut up and listen and he actually asks decent questions from a layman's perspective.

Every time I left the UK and arrived back in the United States I could tell a big difference in the animation of both countries. In the United States people seem much happier and more friendly with strangers. I have traveled the world and have never seen another country that comes even close to the United States.

A great podcast. I am always impressed with how Joe holds his own in these conversations. People who so easily dismiss actors as knowing little forget that they are TRAINED to MEMORIZE a massive amount of data in a short period of time. You can't be stupid to do that. And that means something. Imagine George Clooney given say 10 pages of medical jargon PER WEEK for YEARS, when even people training to be REAL doctors might have trouble remembering. The fact Joe was on a sitcom and had to memorize dialogue, or even his comedy routine, it isn't surprising to me he knows so much about so many things in general. And you could argue Joe isn't even a SERIOUS actor. Someone like Anthony Edwards, also on ER had mORE medical Jargon to remember for years longer than George. AND MAYBE we all hope we could get a doctor as seeemingly compassionate as Edwards appeared onscreen.
For those that think I am hating, read my comment properly. It's a compliment, not a criticism.
I think podcasts like this have really open the door for ordinary people to ask these questions too. Simply amazing!

Brian possesses every positive attribute an educator can have. I can imagine students fighting over seats for his lectures. His demeanor while guiding listeners through the most challenging concepts of this era never waivers in enthusiasm. Also his wealth of knowledge is just plain scary. What an awesome podcast....
Aside from empathy. He doesn't seem to understand why people want more from life. "What more do you want?" Not everyone wants to be an explorer or cares about exploring the universe, they just want to find purpose. He seems not to understand that (or feigns not understanding.)

The difference in approach between Cox and Neil deGrasse Tyson is stark.
NDT is so bombastic and tries to convey the awesomeness of these concepts through his delivery, whereas Brian just calmly explains our understanding of the universe and let’s the reality speak for itself.

Small clips of NDT are great, but as soon as you watch him in an interview for more than 10 mins he is very annoying. Unless it’s with Theo Von. Then it works.

I'm not a scientist but I think what he's saying is if you used a laser, and pointed it over the horizon you would see the Earth curvature, while when it's used in space, there is none.... If I remember correctly they used a couple of lasers, and pointed them in such a way as to make a < shape. There was no measurable curve that you would expect in a sphere shaped expanding universe.
@@RickySpanish12344 easier to think of it as that on the largest scales, parallel lines will stay parallel forever, and the angels of a triangle add up to 180 degrees. Neither of those would be true in a universe with positive or negative curvature. He doesn't mean flat as in the universe is 2D (which it might be btw check out the holographic principle) he just means that geometry is the same as it would be on a 2D surface which is the whole parallel lines and triangle thing.
