    Just think...Geddy is SINGING and playing this bass line simultaneously. Wow! Talk about multi-tasking.

      I think I have OCD because since June I have been going into my garage and playing this song along with track one on ASOH again and again - I can see how many takes each night bc they record as MKV and show time (60-80 times a night maybe) - Not bass and singing but alex's guitar/vocals (mixed voice) note for note - Geddy not only plays this effortlessly, but he wrote the music (with alex whoever did what on this I have no idea). I am trying to paint by numbers just one track and in that time they probably recorded Hold Your Fire. Singing and playing this is easily possible, singing good and playing is hardly possible, and singing/playing/knowing you wrote the song out of thin air makes Rush Rush and me some D-Bag on TH-cam pouring my heart out over a year old comment.

Thanks for sharing your skill with the bass players of the world, I can only hope that the young cats of today won't solely rely on watching to learn a complex line, but will develop the ability to hear the line to interpret it as well. Thanks again for sharing your talent and for the wonderful tone! Best Wishes, DQ.............

      Actually, Sean Sammon sold it to me for far less than he could have gotten and I sold it back to him for around the same, as was our agreement from the start. I recouped a portion of my travel expenses when I sold it back to him. They are cool basses, but I don't think they've ever been worth what the price they were being sold for, even back in '91 when they went for $3,000 new.

    I have to add my congratulations to that of others.
    I've wanted a Wal for around the same length of time as you did.
    They really do have a sound all of their own: it's just so....woody.
    On the one hand I'm deeply envious, but on the other, if anyone ought to have a Wal as nice as that one then it's you.
    As soon as I saw the thumbnail I yelled "he's got a feckin' Wal...woohoo!"
    Perhaps the nicest part is that your long wait was finally brought to an end in such a nice way, with good memories associated with the instrument right from day one, which will be with you every time you play it.
    Sincere congratulations mate.

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Everything you said was nice of you to say. If someone went through a bunch of back comments they'd be able to come up with many quotes of me saying, "Yes, I'd love a Wal, but I'll never have one because I think the cost is just too much to be spent on one instrument." My mind is a funny place and a switch got flipped or something and here I am. But, as you alluded to, for me, the story is bigger than the bass and that's something that money can't buy. I stuck upon a sentiment in an earlier response and I like it so much that I'll repeat it here - I think the story revealed as much about just how distrustful and cynical I am, as it did about how open and generous Sean was and I hope to use it as a catalyst to change my way of thinking a bit.
      Thanks again for your comment and congratulations.

    I always value the notes to your videos, and really want to thank you for past concise and informative covers of so many different bands and songs, and eagerly await whats to come. I love so much of what you do and what you've done that I went and got all the Crisis music I could find, and really draw from it as a musician but primarily as a bass player. I am so happy for you that you have come to own a Wal, especially one as stunning as in this video (its almost like Geddy's red one!) Moreover, to read and in a way live your journey to acquiring one, as a young Canadian growing up in the 90's and early 2000's listening to Sean Sammon on the radio with Puddle of Mudd (primarily the song "Blurry" which was in heavy rotation at the time,) but primarily soaking in all things Yes, Rush and Kiss (thanks to my incredible father) I look eagerly forward to the day when I come to own one too as it is my dream instrument! Although I myself do not own one I am a part of the Wal bass owner and appreciator community on Facebook and encourage you to join their page if you are on Facebook.
    With much gratitude and respect,
    Ben

    You play this so well with so much finesse! I love seeing someone cover Geddys stuff that can really cover Geddys stuff!
    It really shows Geddys humble, and often overlooked genius talent !

    I'm sure Power Windows wouldn't rank in my Top 3 Rush albums if not for the wonderful and rich sounds of that bass... dear god it's good. Sure, Alex and Neil's playing and sound were top notch on the album too, but Geddy's bass playing never sounded so vibrant and alive outside of Power Windows, such an underrated album.

    Amazing work, again. Great story too. I've loved Wal's from my love for Justin Chancellor from Tool. Amazing tone. I can't believe Geddy plays and sings this stuff... what a guy. Great work!

      I'm afraid that was a grimace. I don't think I'd do Red Barchetta on this bass. I have a version with the Guild that sounds pretty good and that's what I'll put up for Sean.

    • @sjfalcon2001
      @sjfalcon2001 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No pressure there for "Red Barchetta", I just read the story that's all. Your mastery of Rush would sound great on any bass. But it did look like you were enjoying playing the Wal.

    Big Money was my least favorite on Power Windows for a long time, but in the last short while its become one of my favorite Rush songs, period. Funny how it sometimes takes the 100th listen for it to finally click. Thanks for sharing this Wal version, Troy!

    Man, you really make it look so damn easy to play! You really do love Rush & Geddy Lee as a bassist. Geddy is becoming 1 of my favorite bassist of all time. I love Jaco, Boosty, Entwhistle & Jack Bruce & others but Geddy was or is extremely special as a bassist. Truly 1 of a kind!

    The other day The Body Electric came up on my iphone while on shuffle and I thought about you. I was going to request that you play it (I didn't realize you had covered it years ago) and then I saw this and it did so much more than satisfy that itch. This is the most amazing cover I've ever seen or heard and it's very personal to me. I can't get enough of it. I remember the first time i heard this song was on MTV and I was captivated by Geddy's bass playing. Thanks Troy! You're amazing!

    Getting a Wal has been one of those that has eluded me for over thirty years. From the first time, much like yourself, in 1985, I've wanted one. Of course at the time, being in my teens, I would never have had the money...not that I really do now, but it's one of those that I could work some OT to obtain. The trouble now, I've never even seen one nor have I even heard of one coming up for sale in the Midwest. I supposed when it's the right time, It'll happen, but until then...

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a dream come true when I got this one, but I only had it for a year or two. I certainly enjoyed my time spent with it, but it did not become one of my favorite basses and I got tired of stepping over it to pick up a different bass.

    • @Luv2tickt
      @Luv2tickt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TJH3113 it's funny to read this as you're not the first to say that. Many talk about the weight of the Wal that really puts them off, and now with the sophisticated electronics, if one wishes for the sound, it's able to be done without having to drop $5g's.

      I honestly believe this bass may have been my old Wal. I had this exact spec model (and I mean exact) from about 1998 to about 2007. I sold it to a guy in the UK in Wycombe, Bucks. And then ??? I always wondered if Wal bought it back to resell. What are the odds? Do you know the full history Troy?
      I have tons of pics.of me with it.
