Wicked basslines, a unique voice that resonates with every song that is sung, and also all the years where his keyboard/synthesizer playing would blow your mind away! Geddy Lee, truly one of a kind! 🤘2112-4EVER!🤘
That’s why we can see 100 bass players nail his bass riffs, but we haven’t seen another band with a bassist who comes up with stuff like this. The same is true of Peart, there many drummers who can copy his riffs, but we haven’t seen another band with a drummer writing stuff like that? Geddy also wrote his pieces to perfectly fit with any fill that Neil came up. In fact, it is Geddy’s bass that makes Neil’s fills really punch, as his bass highlights each accent and cymbal hit. There has never been a bassist and drummer duo who so perfectly mesh their rhythms and fills as Geddy and Neil. They were the ultimate rhythm section and the reason that Rush sounded so full for a 3 piece band. Geddy and Neil sounded like a band by themselves.
@@williampatterson5067 I'm not comparing the two bass sounds, I'm just saying that getting the same jazz bass tone from the album and live performances is fun.
For anyone not aware, Tim is in a band called YYNOT. I'm not associated with the band, I'm just a fan that thinks they deserve a huge following. They started as a virtual "band" doing a RUSH inspired instrumental and video called YYNOT. They shared that on the popular RUSH messageboards and began to build a following. Everyone recorded their parts from their respective home states and were put together by creator/producer/guitarist, Billy Alexander. They began making amazing RUSH covers the same way. Billy eventually added a young woman named Rocky Kuner to sing. She is a tiny vocal powerhouse that can nail early Ged vocals. She absolutely owns No One at the Bridge. They have had numerous drummers over the last few years and were looking to find a permanent drummer prior to COVID-19 but as with all bands, have been side-lined. They have created two albums of great original music. They have done some touring and put on amazing shows that are a mix of RUSH covers and their own originals. Their touring is a bit unorthodox because Billy and Rocky are from Cali and Tim is, I think from Florida. They don't have a touring bus or anything like that. They book shows and travel individually to venues. For a band that is rarely in the same room with one another they are incredibly tight. Once live music is a thing again if you have a chance go see them. Incredibly talented and nice people. If you do a search there are a lot of videos of their covers and originals as well as videos from their live shows. They have a strong Facebook presence and their own website and merch. They also have what they call the Social Distance Club which is kind of a Patreon type club to help support them during these difficult times. YMMV, but I think if you are a RUSH fan you will almost certainly like YYNOT.
Rocky owns “No One At The Bridge” because no one else dare sing it because of that killer bridge, that includes post 1980s Geddy Lee. Her viersion of this song is goosebump-inducing, hair on the neck standing, incredible. I played it for my wife, a huge Rush fan and extremely critical of all Rush tribute bands and she pumped her fist in the air on the “scream out desperation, but, no one cannot hear” and yelled “yes!”. I am a guitarist who used to play in bands that covered Rush, so I give a bit more girth to tribute bands, knowing how difficult their stuff is to play. I am still critical on the ones that stink, but the few that top the list are all very good, bands like New World Men, Lotus Land and YYNOT are three of the best. Now I really love YYNOT, but I’m sorry, I think New World Men are the best tribute band. I do think that Tim is the best bassist I have heard though. YYNOT May be the best band of musician, I just think that New World Men capture the sound of Rush the closest. That may not be a good thing as far as music careers go. Sounding exactly like another band is not going to help you developing your own material. The problem is, if you have your own style, it will reflect when you’re trying to sound like Rush. YYNOT are beginning to release their own songs now and that is awesome and the right thing to do. They can use the fame and audience they have garnered to expose their own music to and it seems to be working. The three guys from NEM have captured Rush’s sound so perfectly that I think they’d have a hard time making their own music and not have it sound like Rush making new music. Mat sounds so much like Geddy Lee when he sings, I’m not sure he can sound like anyone else. I really can’t see how in the hell he can sing Geddy, while playing Neil Peart on drums. I would have never thought anyone could have accomplished that. Rocky is a phenomenal singer, but I can tell her voice from Geddy on pretty much every song. That’s probably a good thing, because sounding like Geddy would not help her on their original songs. They guys from NWM sound so much like Rush, I’m not so sure if that would help them build their own identity doing any original material. The YYNOT original songs that I have heard so far, don’t sound like Rush songs and that’s good, because they are building their own musical identity. Their songs are very good.
They are the real deal, and awesome people to meet and talk to. Saw them in Tucson Feb 2020. If you want to listen to original music in the Rush image, YYNOT is that band.
So I went to YYNOT's web page and started browsing some of the samples they have available... at first I was thinking "what kind of CRAP is this? It sounds like a bunch of junior high kids trying to jam..." Then I realized I still had this video playing in the other window. The YYNOT sounds MUCH better by itself! Playing both albums (not at the same time!) on Spotify now. the Rush influence is prevalent yet it's all original. I'm loving it!
I like the Ricky better too. The Fender is awesome, but nothing quite like the original tone . . . I always wonder why musicians move away from the instruments that gave them their 'classic' sounds? I never thought Neil's Ludwig or DW kits sounded as good as the Slingerland or Tama kits either.
I was always disappointed a bit whenever I saw them live and Geddy would use the Fender to play the earlier songs he originally recorded with the Rick. There’s nothing wrong with the Fender, but I still associate all of the music prior to Permanent Waves with the growl of that Rick, especially when he was still running the Rick through the Ampeg SVT with the 8 10” cabinets.

I feel like, historically, people focus on the whole package with Rush to the detriment of acknowledgment of just how brilliant Geddy is on bass guitar. You two did him proud.
One of the things I always liked about the production of Rush albums was that I could easily pick out the individual instruments which made me appreciate it even more when I just listened to the ensemble as a whole.
It definitely happens to lifeson too. Like rolling stone ranked him #98 on their list of best guitarists ever, criminal. I guess it’s easy for people to overlook your technical skill on an instrument when you played with Neil.

it's stunning to think that a guy like Geddy can be one of the greatest vocalists, bassists, and musical composers in rock, all at the same time. Geddy is a one in a billion guy. and then for circumstances to be such that Geddy ends up in a band, making music with, and being the best friends of fellow musicians and one-in-a-billion guys like Neil and Alex, that's like a one in a trillion occurrence. it really is incredible how some of the best bands coming together is down to the most minuscule of worldly chances, and insane luck, and there really couldn't be a more perfect combination of band members and people than Rush.

Check out Tim with YYNOT. Great RUSH covers and originals. Their singer, Rocky Kuner has amazing pipes and can nail old school Ged vocals. Billy Alexander is a producer/guitarist/songwriter that has been heavily influenced by RUSH and has perfected their tone.
Great job guys. Couldn't help but shed a little tear for Neil. Becoming aware of the magic interaction between bass and drums on the Farewell to Kings tracks (it's there on ALL the tracks played btw) reminded me he's moved on.
Dayum near EVERY RUSH song has frikkin insane bass licks, insane guitar, and impossible drum rythyms! These three guys represent the TOP Bassist, Guitarist, and Drummer in ANY genre!
Rush music and lyrics were a huge influence on my how people interact and deal with life. I own a bass....and have played in bands. Just jam out with friends now....LOVE RUSH
Geddy is a freak of nature. So cool to hear him covered so faithfully. You could easily add 100 more riffs, but noticeably absent for me is Freewill, the bass lead in to the solo section, and then the entire solo section, which is just sick by all three band mates.
Just re-listen to Hold Your Fire! No Zip No Zap and NOO Power. Sounds like Alex wasn’t even there. Geddy had turned it into THE GEDDY LEE SHOW! And he found out from Alex and Neil both that the keyboards were GONE!
I’ll tell you which Rush albums aren’t any good..... none of them, it’s a trick question. The reason they had such a long career is because they were always daring enough to be different and change it up. Al of those people who complained probably would have lost interest in the group of they just continued to make music that sounded like 2112, whether they know it or not. Every record Rush ever made has great songs on it. Yes, they got a bit keyboard heavy starting with GUP to HYF, but their are still great songs on those records. Rush didn’t know how to write bad music. It was always unique and challenging.
Great job!!! Tim's a riot to watch, and an absolute BEAST of a player!!!! Josh is incredible too-would love to see him tackle a selection of Steve Harris riffs! I can't pick a favorite!
I have the MXR Bass DI+ and it has a distortion that, while it can't do exactly what this box does, does something I haven't heard elsewhere. When not going specifically for "fuzz bass" it's kind of cool leaving it just barely on.
You guys absolutely nailed those tones! When a piece of gear boasts to have someone's tone soldered somewhere inside the dark electronic viscera of a pedal, in my view such marketing statements cross the thin border between bold advertisement and outright lie. In this case I truly believe there is a tiny Geddy trapped somewhere in this box. No, don't let him out.
What a fantastic chronology. The evolution of Geddy from pre-1980's through the decades has just been performed in what can only be described as a clinic. Wow Tim. Natural Science perhaps is one of the most overlooked/underrated Rush tracks. Truly a masterpiece. And YYZ? It's freakin' YYZ!!!!
Absolutely think you are awesome and Geddy is my favorite bassist along with keyboards and lead singer,he did it all and never missed a Rush concert from 1974-2015 😎
This is so well done. The sound. The editing. I like how we get to hear the sound the two different basses make. The song list is good, and the facial expressions as you both play....show joy in playing these great songs. Thanks for this.
WELL DONE GENTS!!!!! 😀😀😀🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏👏 Now, imagine having to play those tasty riffs plus sing, play keyboards, Taurus pedals, trigger effects.....ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!! 😳😳😳😳😳 Ged is a TRUE master at his craft!!!! 😎😎😎
That was a surprisingly emotional and wonderful journey through Geddy's bass lines. Well, well played gentlemen. Fascinating to hear the continuity through the years given how much the production and songwriting trajectory Rush took changed so much.
Tim makes these Geddy riffs look so easy. The only person who makes those bass licks look easier is Geddy himself. Tim is an incredible bassist who can nail all of Geddy’s dynamics perfectly, which isn’t easy because Geddy really hits those strings hard and uses his index fingernail to pop the string for accents. Now just imagine, Geddy plays all of this as he is singing lead on every song, not to mention playing keyboards with his feet on many of them.
I haven’t played my bass in so many years because I just haven’t had time but mainlining such a big hit of groove is gonna leave me jonesin’ for a long time to come. I just feel like myself when that vibe is going through me, man. Thanks for sharing this!!
I really appreciate the tuning accuracy you both used in these tributes. They sound exactly like I remember! Btw, open E on a Rick has got to be my favorite sound ever.
That was great fun to hear and see! Well done guys. In case anyone ever had any doubt about how brilliant Geddy is LOL. Absolute monster creator of intricate, groovy basslines
I’ll probably end up getting the yyz pedal. And maybe the Di-2112 in the later future. Tim starce is just awesome though. I love seeing his post on the rush Facebook group
Thanks a lot. I was going to get some sleep tonight but now I have to listen to Rush's entire discography before I go to bed. Seriously though, thanks for the great list and great content. If I had to switch any of these, it'd be Prime Mover over Force Ten on Hold Your Fire.
this list being in chronological order speaks to me man- good work :D when you did anthem and bastille day back-to-back, i genuinely thought you'd just do the entire R30 overture. you almost did when you came back for cygnus parts 1 and 2 dunno how you were able to only pick one song from permanent waves though- spirit of radio and freewill both have several great bass sections in them alone. also, no bass solos from vital signs or subdivisions?! madness great choice on the enemy within. i think people forget just how much bass playing there is on grace, power and hold. whether you like the 80s sound or not, you cannot deny geddy's playing on those album, whilst singing and doing all the synth work
The guy with the beard is the guy on the Geddy Lee pedal preview and he's in the band YNot. Both of these guys are awesome though but the guy with the beard looks like he's having more fun playing.
This was great! I enjoyed listening and trying to figure out what song they were playing. I got them all 🙂. Wish I could play like this, excellent work! Geddy is a master.
Hey Timmy - you are aging like a fine wine my friend! and for those that don't know him, he was this good at nailing Geddy when he was 12!!! Hope all is well dude, when this covid thing is over i would love to see your band live, you are an inspiration to all bass players.
Concordo! O cara é fora de série! Isso por que isso são apenas riffs, imagina a linha completa totalmente complexa de baixo junto com a linha vocal! Ps: ainda tem o fato de ele tocar os sintetizadores com o pé e teclados com a mão.
This video did not disappoint. YYZ, Cygnus X-1, Headlong Flight, Leave That Thing Alone, New World Man, Big Money, and Driven. You made some damn good picks.

Basically one song from every album, except for Moving Pictures, which has 3.
Bearded guy has some great Bass faces!! That Ric is sweet
I actually had chills when they played vapor trails... he was a great person, despite never meeting the guy
Top Rush bass riffs: ALL of them.
Also dog years 😉?
I agree
@@Rosbergen80 ALL
Dayum near EVERY RUSH song has frikkin insane bass licks, insane guitar, and impossible drum rythyms! These three guys represent the TOP Bassist, Guitarist, and Drummer in ANY genre!
@@stevenhenninger8994 Agreed, I play all those instruments. It´s a BIG effort to learn any line in any instrument. There´s just no easy song at all.
I'm not a bass player (drummer), but I've always loved the bass lines for "Digital Man," "The Big Money" and "Marathon."
DM is an amazing bass track. Non stop.
Rush music and lyrics were a huge influence on my how people interact and deal with life. I own a bass....and have played in bands. Just jam out with friends now....LOVE RUSH
I've never ever picked up a bass guitar in my life, but at 3:24 this is such a bad ass bass riff!!!! Give me GOOSEBUMPS!
Alright can still play at 60 years old most of the Rush songs they're there forever
From 3:24 until 3:28... I don't know he managed to figure out that break, let alone play it!! Amazing!!!
Props to both these men jamming to Getty Lee to perfection!!
Tim Starace is a genius with this stuff and we all love his tones 👏🏼
The transition from YYZ to digital man was cleaaaaaann!
Geddy is a freak of nature. So cool to hear him covered so faithfully. You could easily add 100 more riffs, but noticeably absent for me is Freewill, the bass lead in to the solo section, and then the entire solo section, which is just sick by all three band mates.
Agree it's his best moment on bass and that's saying something
- Geddy Lee, The King of Bass ! Long live Rock n' roll !
MG - Brazil
Roll the bones is a great album, dont care what anybody says...
The groove and timing to Roll the Bones is still an absolute fav!
My favorites off that album are Ghost Of A Chance, Bravado, and Dreamline. There were definitely some great songs off that album!
I love that album too. Ghost of a Chance is one of my favorite songs.
I love the bass tone on Counterparts, my favourite out of all the Geddy tones.
Nice one, La Villa. That's what I expect.
Tim Starace is made out of awesome. Super cool dude, and fantastic player.
Two of my favorite bass players covering my favorite bass player in one video. Oh joy of joy!
Tim's awesome videos is why I bought the YYZ pedal! Gets that Geddy tone and so much more! Love it!
We are twins xd
I have the MXR Bass DI+ and it has a distortion that, while it can't do exactly what this box does, does something I haven't heard elsewhere. When not going specifically for "fuzz bass" it's kind of cool leaving it just barely on.
Who says bass players cant have fun? These 2 fellas are having a blast and i am too just watching em
Malignant Narcissism is a drug. I can loop that song over and over again.
That song is great, but for me that whole album centers around the Monkey Business. It's such an absolute monster of a track.
The tone of the Rickenboker bass is just SICK. LOVE 💘 IT.
You both did an outstanding job of displaying how great Geddy is, thank you!
Rush was mind bogglingly talented, memorable, fun, intelligent, and inspiring. RIP Neil. A shame we will never see them on stage again
Superb rendition of the bass lines in La Villa Strangiato.
Seeing the classic arcade games in the background only adds to this already epic video 🤘🏼
Geddy is the best bass player of all time
Rush is the Goat in my opinion and Geddy is the best. This video was so cool.
WELL DONE GENTS!!!!! 😀😀😀🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏👏
Now, imagine having to play those tasty riffs plus sing, play keyboards, Taurus pedals, trigger effects.....ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!! 😳😳😳😳😳
Ged is a TRUE master at his craft!!!! 😎😎😎
That was a surprisingly emotional and wonderful journey through Geddy's bass lines. Well, well played gentlemen. Fascinating to hear the continuity through the years given how much the production and songwriting trajectory Rush took changed so much.
Inject all the Rush bass riffs into my veins.
How cool to get Tim too!
Every time I see Tim's face on a thumbnail I turn up the volume and get ready to be amazed. 11/10 every time!
I’ve never had an issue playing Geddy’s parts, until I stopped playing them with a pick. This is godly.
Whats a pick? Is that the thing those guitarists use?!!
Xanadu is my favorite from these I think. Fantastic tune
I enjoy watching these guy's play. It's easy to see how difficult the bass lines are in Rush songs are to play. Geddy sang while he played.
I have to say that Clockwork Angels has some of Geddy's sickest grooves......and that's after a career of sick grooves as this video points out!
@3:23 wow! You nailed it! What a brilliant riff by Geddy! I love that part! Well done!
All those lines are fucking sick, Rush is really one of the things that excites me most in life and make me want to enjoy life
It's really a personal treat to see 2 great players interpret these songs in their own unique fashions or approaches . Close to perfect as it gets .
Played the live version of red barchetta, nice.
I haven’t played my bass in so many years because I just haven’t had time but mainlining such a big hit of groove is gonna leave me jonesin’ for a long time to come. I just feel like myself when that vibe is going through me, man. Thanks for sharing this!!
I’m glad they showed love to post Moving Pictures riffs. The Enemy Within is crazy
"Leave that thing alone" is my favorite Rush bass line ever! But all of these are fantastic...
La villa strangiato has to be one of the funnest songs to play on the bass, Never have gotten sick of playing that.
Legendary name
"Show Don't Tell"! Yay! Second Rush song I ever heard. Made me want to be bass player for sure, at that point (I was 12).
Grand Finale from 2112 - I forget to breathe, sometimes... damn, it's just as fierce and powerful as the first time I heard it.
I always get knocked off my horse when I watch other guys who can really play the bass perform. But self assessment is good. Thanks for the video.
josh and tim..you both sound great but imagine geddy was singing over most of these lines!!! he's from another planet
I really appreciate the tuning accuracy you both used in these tributes. They sound exactly like I remember! Btw, open E on a Rick has got to be my favorite sound ever.
Seen Rush play Circumstances live...still can't figure out how Geddy sang over that bass line...unreal
If I had to switch any of these, it'd be Prime Mover over Force Ten on Hold Your Fire.
this list being in chronological order speaks to me man- good work :D
when you did anthem and bastille day back-to-back, i genuinely thought you'd just do the entire R30 overture. you almost did when you came back for cygnus parts 1 and 2
dunno how you were able to only pick one song from permanent waves though- spirit of radio and freewill both have several great bass sections in them alone. also, no bass solos from vital signs or subdivisions?! madness
great choice on the enemy within. i think people forget just how much bass playing there is on grace, power and hold. whether you like the 80s sound or not, you cannot deny geddy's playing on those album, whilst singing and doing all the synth work
Sounds great Tim and Josh! Hmmmm is that a YYNOT pick I see on the desk? I definitely need one for my wall of fame! Have a great weekend!
The guy with the beard is the guy on the Geddy Lee pedal preview and he's in the band YNot. Both of these guys are awesome though but the guy with the beard looks like he's having more fun playing.
Both excellent players. Tim's chops are astounding!
OMG the best collaboration on the internet!
Cool. Looks like a shoot-out between a mafia boss and a viking. Awesome playing all around , too. Many thanks for posting this.
The bass line for New World Man is the most perfect bass line in the history of bass lines.
Marathon, Force Ten and New World Man. My fav
josh is brilliant , new guy on the block , to me that is, love the hard work these bass players do , Rock on !
This was great! I enjoyed listening and trying to figure out what song they were playing. I got them all 🙂. Wish I could play like this, excellent work! Geddy is a master.
That was amazing guys. Rush the best band of all time.
How could anyone down vote this vid?....these guys pulled it off in stride....well done gents.....👍👍👍
18 fisherman who thought they were getting fast large mouth bass rigs?
mean mean stride?!
Man I love that song "What your doing" nobody ever requests that song too bad its an excellent song along with End the End.
The Bass Channel + Tim = match made in heaven ❤️
Hey Timmy - you are aging like a fine wine my friend! and for those that don't know him, he was this good at nailing Geddy when he was 12!!! Hope all is well dude, when this covid thing is over i would love to see your band live, you are an inspiration to all bass players.
Hey buddy! Lots of fun times back then.
The best Band!
This video did not disappoint. YYZ, Cygnus X-1, Headlong Flight, Leave That Thing Alone, New World Man, Big Money, and Driven. You made some damn good picks.
Just add Xanadu and Territories and you have 25 !!!
That was fookin’ AMAZING!!🔥
The algorithm gods blessed me with this today!! 💥
Ah...Product placement at it's finest. Do I now want to own a Tech 21 SansAmp? So what if I do? These guys did a great job showing it off!!! Well played, sirs, well played.
OMG..
Sonetimes you forget how amazing Geddy was until you see someone else work through his lines..
Great job guys!
And Geddy played keys, foot pedals and sang!
My Fav: Ghost Rider... so subtle.
Yeah... 😳
Well done! This is not only the bass riffs, but not less 50% of unique sound by this amazing band ...
