Very interesting. I love the beautiful city of San Diego. I was here in the year 2000. Sports Arena Hotel. Here are so many attractions. Balboa Park. Sea World. The Harbour and the restaurants in the Old Town. The Railway Station in San Diego is beautiful. Mexican stile. Long live the Coaster. 😊🤗👍 Regards from Berlin
As a San Diego ex-pat now living near Chicago, this superb piece of my San Diego memories is warmly watched. Such great memories living there. Economy and overcrowding exiled me. Thank you creating and posting this.
Great video Coasterfan, the Civilized San Diego area in Downtown San Diego, Old Town Station, the bluffs of Del Mar, Oceanside & Carlsbad are all good train watching places to watch Amtrak, Coaster, the San Diego Trolley, BNSF freights.
Just love your Coaster movies and indeed your Grand Canyon one too!! I've been on the Coaster twice and we did the San Diego trollies too and your films bring it all back!! I never knew that steam had been down the coast though as shown passing a Coaster on your trailer at the start of the Canyon film? We are English but must go back to CA again, our daughter lives in OK so we do get over the pond a couple of times a year. Well done!!
+douglindsay1 Thank you! Steam has occasionally ventured down the line to San Diego. The last time was over 5 years ago now. It was supposed to run again this year but the trip was cancelled unfortunately.
NCTD is negotiating with Siemens for new Charger locomotives to replace the Tier 0 and Tier 2 locomotives. Plan is to bring this to the board next month, but NCTD has to work into Siemens' schedule.
2401 "Stop the Fuelishness" wrap reminds me of MBTA 762 "No. Brainer." Here on the east coast. Commuter rail does save a lot of congestion and fuel on the Pike, when Keolis figures out that 3000 horsepower turbocharged F40PH Screamers built in the 80s can in fact push 6 inches of snow. At least there isn't snow in SoCal. If there was snow like have in New England the congestion and unrest that would follow would be devastating.
Half the people here overreact to snow. If you have lived here for more than 10 years New England snow is nothing new. Those overreacted need to go to Florida. (95% of NE leaves)
chaosdemonwolf1 its push pull commuter operations. Its fairly common in the U.S. and Canada. In case if you didnt know the cab car at each end of the train has controls to the locomotive
+Kiernan McCloskey With most modern North American rail equipment, the bell automatically comes on when the horn is sounded. Bells are also rung in areas where any people are in close proximity to the tracks.
I don't think that is something that is normally modulated, but it can vary between pieces of equipment. Also keep in mind that trains moving faster can sound like the bell rings at a faster rate due to the doppler effect.
What the cabcars need is for their horns to be unrestricted just like they were back in 2008, 09, and early 2010. They shouldn't have been choked in the first place.
KayzerSouze On many commuter routes, the trains are not turned around at the end of a run due to either a lack of facilities, time between runs or both. Cables that run the length of the train called "MU" or multiple unit cables connect the locomotive to the last passenger car on the train which is also equipped with an operating cab. At the end of a trip, the crew just switches from one cab to the other to go back in the other direction.

I rode on the no brainer
It's true
lol don't forget the people who go and buy $400 worth of food before the storm and they don't eat any of it other than that its true.

burdizdawurd1516 no all of new England what I cant get is par plows more snow than mbta at 5 mph on a 2% grade and still gets it done faster.
Nice shots! I like how the train passes by the beach. Looks like one of those commercial ads for the train. :)
My favorite shot 13:57, 14:07, 14:44.

Coolest TH-camr
Did anyone notice that Mikes TH-cam name is CoasterFan2105 and the first clip had engine 2105
It's cool too much!
They should’ve extended metrolink to San Diego
I guess most of the coasters love to go backwards.
Is your channel named after coaster locomotive no 2105 cause I've seen that loco in lots of your videos
Yes, it is!
CoasterFan2105 I'm guessing it's your favorite then. I love 2105 and 2104 the most.

Where you think horn comes from reverse driving trains?
Commuter trailers of corse
Recently been to America and traveled on this and the Pacific Surfliner. Why are the trains and cars on the train so old fashioned?
They're not. The Surfliner got new locomotives right after you would have visited. The cars are 2000-02 manufacture.
So that's where the stolen GO carriages went!

@Lazys The Dank Engineer the significance of 3002 is :D

TOP TRAIN AND COMFORTABLE 75%
it was 2104 at the end when it said 2105 at the end lol
How come there's so much use of the bell? Not that I'm complaining, but I thought it was only used at stations.
+Kiernan McCloskey With most modern North American rail equipment, the bell automatically comes on when the horn is sounded. Bells are also rung in areas where any people are in close proximity to the tracks.
+CoasterFan2105 I also noticed there were many different frequencies of bells, is this another control in the cab?
I don't think that is something that is normally modulated, but it can vary between pieces of equipment. Also keep in mind that trains moving faster can sound like the bell rings at a faster rate due to the doppler effect.

2307/2309 have Raised Letter K5LAs. 2303/2304 have a K5LL or K5SA things lol
The ones that should be replaced are 2303 and 2305. The others have ok - EPIC horns
MassDotFan1062 Productions they are K5CA-LS horns, they are the Canadian tuned version of a K5LLA hybrid.
MassDotFan1062 Productions Ik that I should’ve specified more tho. 2310 has a raised letter also
