    I've learned these lessons the hard way - so you don't have to!

    My 20s, with all my hopes and dreams, caused me to buy and store. Instead of buying in anticipation, I wish I had bought items as I needed. Too many things were never needed and later regretted. That money and time could have been used in creating memories or staying debt free instead. Now, I’m living my best life with a serene and minimal home, where ALL my things speak beauty, comfort, and usefulness. 😊❤

      Very true! I guess sometimes we need to learn hard lessons when we are young to fully appreciate life later. My husband and I had a similar perspective on ‘stuff’ in our 20s. But now and deal with the consequences later. So happy we kicked that thinking to the curb! Have a great day! ❤️

    The declutterring is done and now I focus on buying intentionally. I still watch your videos though, because I now see you as a friend! The donation bin is always in use.

    Hey, Angela. After all these years as a minimalist, I still find it difficult to deal with declutteringthe sentimental items I have left from my dad, after passing away from cancer...

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, I’m sure that is very difficult. I suppose the question is: do you want to keep all the things? Or do you want to let some go? If those items are a burden to you (either physically or mentally) they may actually be doing more to hurt the memory of your dad. It sounds kind of strange - but it happens! I know some people who choose a handful of items that are the very most special and find ways to display them or use them regularly…and then let go of the rest. They find this very honoring and also therapeutic. ❤️

    It’s so nice how you share all this info and learned experiences so others might benefit from you! This is great and a good reminder for those of us who have been following you a while. We love you Angela!❤
    (I bought an enamel coated cast iron Dutch oven today -I’ve both wanted and needed one for quite a while. I have done well not just making a spontaneous buy and put a lot of thought into it. Thanks to my new minimalist mindset I can make wiser and better purchase decisions OR realize or discover I don’t need to make the purchase after all).

      Thank you! You’ll love your Dutch oven! I bought one about 6 months ago and haven’t regretted it once! It was a bit of an investment but worth it! ❤️

    Inspiring and entertaining video as always. I loved your line about having "eviction papers ready to serve." I needed to hear that. Books, DVDs, and CDs never look so appealing than when they're in my quivering hand between the shelf and donation/sell box! I've gotten rid of a lot but have miles to go. I also appreciated the "go at your own pace" advice which does include "go," meaning going forward. Glad to know you're in our corner cheering us on! Thank you!

    For me, mostly imo about figuring out what I actually want, need and love and what I don’t. I find myself wondering about a number of those middle of the road things. Unsure about if I love them, why I think I want them etc. So really it’s just a gradual series of asking myself the questions around those things. Pause. Why do I like this? Do I genuinely like this? Almost like I just sort of make sure or confirm yea or nay. And I sort of grill the actual things at times too. What are you doing for me? Am I just used to you or think I “should” keep you? And so on. But mostly what I like. What I love. What I want. Sometimes those can be really hard questions. But yet it’s still important to ask them. After awhile it will be answered one way or another.
    20/20 rule is one of my faves.
    Redesigning my kitchen. Wondering about your corner kitchen cabinets. How did you come to said decision? And are those corners open or have a faux door? I’m finding that trying to decide on what to do with the one bottom corner is a very tricky endeavor. 😅😅 I think I’ve got the rest figured out tho such as it’s going to be L shaped and on either end is more or less like 2 floor to ceiling pantry cabinets (one on each end). Cool part is that I may still have room for a little 2 or 3 seater nook/table. 😬 Of course I’m still applying the “shrinking appliance s” concept as well such as I won’t have a typical oven/stove. Maybe just a 2 burner induction and an XL convection/air fryer/roaster/toaster unit. Lol. Fridge and micro, dishwasher will be small also, Of course.

      Hi there! Yes! Questions can be tough to ask- but vitally important. As far as our corner kitchen cabinets - they are both lazy Susan style. So the door kind of folds out, and then there are two trays that spin all the way around for great access. They work super well for us! ❤️

      @ Hello! Suddenly I’m noticing everyone’s corner cabs and kitchen features lol. Went to visit my son. “Let me check out your kitchen with my tape measure.” Lol. 😅😅 He’s got one lazy Susan with the door kind of stuck to it. 😬😬 I’m leaning that way also. One or the other.
      Thanks!! 😊

    The difference of opinions between family members cause a lot of contention. Cass from clutter bug says “YOUR happiness is what matters most”, well that only applies if you live by yourself. It’s a complicated situation. I do want to get rid of certain things members in my family don’t agree with, but I want the space physical and mental.

    One thing I find difficult are videos of my family. I asked my daughter if she has still got a player but she doesn’t want them. I’m 70 and consider myself tidy but still to much stuff especially in the garage which is not dreadful but I need help ☹️ i also have box full of photos. I know you can have them on usb or similar but I don’t have laptop and not technical person. On the bright side whenever I watch your video or read a book on subject I go straight to it. Restricted currently as I have a fractured disc but going to do kitchen drawers tomorrow xx

    I have a friend who travels to Africa often and lived there as a dr. Our church has raffles to also raise money so any unwanted presents I take them in. She uses money for clothes and toys for the children,😊

    I like how you indicate that decluttering doesn't have to be a huge event and that it's okay to start small, simply by removing trash and recycling from the rooms. To further define trash, you can get rid of expired items such as food, medicine, makeup, liquid toiletries like perfumes and soaps that have gone off. Like you said, you can take your time and keep it small throughout the whole process just by tackling a drawer here and a cabinet there

    I think that clutter DOES contain something you want for example a piece that is beautiful and is useful, but you don't really have a use for it or need for it. The item can be i. Perfect condition and functions. Yet you don't need it or use it. It is STILL clutter.

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is a great point and I agree! ❤️

    True. Thank you, Angela!
    2024 was my serious fight with visual clutter. I don't have much storage in my small house, and though I am not a typical hoarder, lol, rather an aspiring minimalist, this part was hard for me. Still, I bravely peeled down the layers of my belongings to the level where I was pretty happy with my space. Though...
    I came to the point that what was good yesterday is not enough today, lol. No, I am not super ambitious, I only find my clutter-free flat surfaces super calming, and every extra piece that somehow lands there makes me stand up and clean/tidy/declutter. So, the journey continues🙂.
    Also, I observe an interesting thing. Belongings I held on to a year ago, weren't that precious to me a month ago and I parted with them easily. That's an interesting development. Sometimes, when I hesitate, I put things back, and some weeks later I have no doubts and no regrets; I even caught myself - I have forgotten them completely! It's a good feeling.
    Also, I have to confess, I even started to look at what the extreme minimalists are doing. Their approach is very inspirational because their perspective is completely different from yours and other "mainstreamers🙂." All are very inspirational and useful.
    This year I am going to attack my "paper clutter." A scanner has been purchased already, I just need to start. 12 documents /day is not much, but during a month/30 days, there will be 360 documents. And that's already something... This year December should find me a couple of boxes of papers lighter.
    I feel it will be a good year🙂!

    Thank you so much! What an incredibly helpful video!
    It’s never occurred to me to “declutter at my own pace”. I grew up in a hoarded home and it wasn’t until I was out of the house in my 20s that I had realized that.
    My room was always immaculate, so when I was told to ‘clean my room’, without being told to, I would take _everything_ out of my closet, dresser and desk, go through each thing item by item, declutter everything I no longer wanted and put away everything else in an organized fashion.
    My brain still thinks that it has to do everything all at once *and* within a five minute time interval. It becomes waaay too overwhelming to declutter with this subconscious mindset and I just freeze instead.
    Thank you for permission to go at my own pace. I never knew that’s exactly what I need and needed to do! 🥰

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh wow! Yes, that is probably a mindset that is tough to break - and I understand why you thought that way, given your situation growing up. Definitely give yourself plenty of grace! Just because you lived in an ultra cluttered environment doesn’t mean you will naturally fall into those same patterns! ❤️
