I have a similar model. Most of it is in decent condition. Very dusty and some rust. Unfortunately it does not advance when typing. Is there some sort of device missing that pulls while you type? I found a torn piece of thick cloth on a circular wheel in the back.
So damn impressive. On my 1933 Smith 8-11 I cleaned the rails with mineral spirit and oiled them a little with gun oil, but the carriage doesn't glide like yours. How did you achieve that?
Love your channel. I have a 1928 L.C Smith and need to repair the main string as it snapped. Is there any step by step manual on how to get the main spring removed? Nothing i can find online. Subscribed!!
I'm having a similar issue, you might try looking whether the screw is spinning on the gear on the inside end. It could just be slipping and not broken.
If chrome ring has tab on bottom, bend those, rings can be tough to take off, sometimes impossible no tabs, then it's pressure fit & probably corroded/stuck They have special set of tools for these ring style tops
I wouldn't know how to do that, these machines have a built in reverse mech that the spools fit into. www.ebay.com/itm/Twin-Metal-Spools-with-Black-Red-Ribbon-For-LC-Smith-Corona-Desktop-Typewriter/233576288252?hash=item36623b4ffc:g:EVUAAOSwW-heTDtP
I have a 1926 version of this. It could use some replacement feet. The ones that are on It are made of wood and are falling apart. I think someone may have made them. What would be a good option to replace them?
Hi, I just bought an L. C. Smith and Brother's typewriter that looks similar in design as the one you demonstrate in this video. How can I tell how old this is and its value?
L.C. Smith & Brother ?? How about L.C. Smith & Corona . . . . Go here, typewriterdatabase.com/ Value is from $0 to $400, depending on condition, Most would be under $100.00 This Typewriter was restored for about $200.00 , it's value after restoration, About $200.00
Hi I have a typewriter Luke Smith 2-8B I can not find any like and let me know if you have any idea what year is this particular model or where I can find out from already thank you very much
Most serial numbers are 5 or more numbers ( 3:20 you can see the serial number on back of this LC Smith typewriter in middle of screen ), If you machine is from this era (1930's) full size typewriter, value is in its condition, un-serviced rusty, corroded & labels worn down about $50.00, Chrome good + labels good $ 100.00 . Add 100.00 for a good cleaning/servicing, Add 200.00 for a deep clean/restoring. I would put the value of machine in video at $ 75.00 when it arrived @ the shop for servicing & Now, afterwards, resell more likely about $ 250.00 in condition you see in Video. Super mint "Museum" quality machine might max out @ $500.00
Hello I have the same typewriter as shown in your vide. mine needs works fine but very rusty and needs a lot of tender loving care. the side walls and the back wall are missing. I am afraad to take it anywhere because I do not trust todays people if they even know about these kind of old machines ?? I live in orange county California do you have any suggestions ??
Rust can be a huge problem sometimes irreversible. Look for a shop locally, should be a couple around LA. Go in & see how they are, look at what they have done & just see if they seem competent. I find most typewriter shops have old school guys that just love to what they do, that's the vibe your looking for. Or if you come over here to Phoenix, you can come by here & see things in person.
L. C. Smith is still on my list. One of these days. If I can find one with the decimal tabs, once I have budget again. :)

Hi I have the same model as this one in your video. The ribbon lift doesn't work....any suggestions??
Ribbon selector in proper position ? Ribbon vibrator broken or disconnected ?
Troubleshooting needs to be done
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 I'm thinking disconnected since it won't move at all.....do I need to take it apart or how do I check that?
Chrome won’t getcha home. Flat black will get ya back.
Hello!

Hi Belle . . . .
I was wondering how to remove the keytop from the keys, I'm currently restoring one of this LC Smith Corona 8-11.
If chrome ring has tab on bottom, bend those, rings can be tough to take off, sometimes impossible
no tabs, then it's pressure fit & probably corroded/stuck
They have special set of tools for these ring style tops
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 thanks a lot for sharing your wisdom! May I additionally ask how to build the spools for this machine?
@@herr_rudolf I don't understand the question, spools ? ribbon spools ?
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 Yes, the standard spools do not fit and I think I might need to build them as I can't get them online where I live.
I wouldn't know how to do that, these machines have a built in reverse mech that the spools fit into.

Rubber automotive body spacers, salvaged feet from more modern typewriters, etc

Go here ...... typewriterdatabase.com/
Best source for serial numbers & years produced
enter on that page the problem is that not identify a single serial number 2-8B says that would be the number? and to know the value?
Thank you

I have an LC Smith, and was wondering if there is a functional replacement for the feed rollers.
jjshort.com recovers platens and feed rollers, I usually use automotive vacuum tubing and redo the feed rollers as needed
