Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf is the greatest pure shooter in NBA history and long before Colin Kaepernick was born, he stood up for his constitutional right not to participate in the national anthem. It cost him what should've been a HOF caliber career.
in the NBA you have no rights to express your opinion-making it a dictatorship just like all other American sports associations. Mahmoud was indeed the greatest shooter in NBA history just look at his FT percentage beats everybody out there.
Steve Jobs Abdul-Rauf was never fired from the NBA, there is no such thing. And I wouldn't exactly constitute whiteballing an athlete for protesting unwarranted murder against his people as "treating their players better".
While I agree Abdul-Rauf should be placed on a pedestal for his stance and ultimately his sacrifices for the struggle, but y'all please stop with this greatest shooter ever non-sense its just disrespectful to Curry.
Rauf came out after 2nd year. Curry came out after 4th. Comparing numbers year 2 to 6 for Rauf in NBA vs Curry year 1 to 4 same points & assists. He was traded after his best year averaging 19 + points & 6.8 assists. If nuggets would have given him green light & ran offense for him no doubt 25 to 30 points a game for his next 8 years. His best years were taken away period. Greatest freshman scoring record in college still not surpassed 30.2. Best free throw % in NBA hx but needed to shoot 1200 was 39 short. final 1 minute shot 80% (that’s as clutch as it gets) He would be taken out of game for 15 min come in the last minute & hit 3 shots in your face. And definitely having Dan Isel, who’s a big man, coaching you is completely different than having Steve Kerr. I watched almost all his games for four years in a row he wasn’t streaky, if he missed two shots in a row he would be taken out or he would be told not to shoot and he’d have to pass inside to Mutombo. Different game & era. Amazing quickness likely quickest ever shot & release. He missed cause he was pushed or hand checked. Tough to know but trajectory was same as these shot first PGs of this era.
CAP. He played 8years in the NBA. Compare Currys 1st 8seasons to Raufs 8year career and you'll see that he was nowhere near Curry. He was a good player in his Era and it's unfortunate that his career ended over him not standing for the anthem. But Curry had already built a hall of fame resume in his 1st 8seasons. Rauf never scored 71 in a game his career high is 51. Saying he was better than Steph or as good as Jordan is literally one of the biggest lies ever told. Stats don't lie
Go compare Currys 1st 8seasons to Raufs only 8seasons and you'll see the truth. Curry had already built a hall of fame resume in 8years. Rauf was never close to being a hall of famer. Just because he could shoot 3s good doesn't mean he was on Currys level.
Rauf was the best shooter before Steph Curry came along. Keep in mind Rauf played in the 90's where defense was super tough and still scored in the mid 50's, not once but multiple times. If Steph played in the 90's he would have been sent to hospitals and filed for disability retirement because defense today was nowhere close to the 90's. Ask Jordan or Laimbeer.

@Mr. Vain do you know any good places to watch throwback games that would be a good learning experience watching some of the older guys putting in work.
In the 90s, the 3 point shot wasn’t something everyone took. It was usually only done by the best shooter on the team, like Kerr. You didn’t have everyone jacking them up at the rate of 25-30 total per game like we do now. Steph Curry takes more now than most teams did back then.
Even though your TH-cam name would suggest that you would possibly be another biased Jordan fan in terms of how you would edit the highlights of your video, I love how you include the highlights of MJ's opposition. It gives a more balanced and realistic perspective of Jordan's competition in his prime/Bulls era. The truth is Jordan didn't always dominate, terminate and annihilate opponents night in and night out. Guys didn't back down or cower away from MJ as much as the story is often told. Jordan was out-performed at times. He was out-duled at times. Yes he was the greatest, but he also lost battles too. Much of his greatness is in the fact that he didn't give up and he always kept coming back and competing.
The other team had an amazing game and MJ finished with 39 in a crazy comeback when they were down like 20 something...he’s Black Jesus dude lol yeah they obviously lost but he still was dominant
I watch games like these and it's amazing that a perimeter player like MJ was able to dominate his era - one that was still geared towards the big men and scoring/defending the paint. I hear young folks say that there weren't a lot of great perimeter players in the 90's. That's hardly the case. The game just wasn't geared for perimeter players then, the way it isn't for big men now. I think of guys like Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Mark Price, Tyrell Brandon, Kevin Johnson, Terry Porters.....point guards who could shoot. They would flourish in today's NBA. Guys like Dell Curry, Rex Chapman, Ricky Pierce, Drazen Pterovic (rip) would be bigger stars playing today's game as well. At the same time I look at Mutombo and he'd probably be a bench player in today's NBA.
Yeah I don’t think mutombo would be bench players at all. People forget he was a 2 way player. Before he just went all defensive. With this squad I can see he went defense.

1:05 abdul at 6’1 bringing the ball up court while being guarded by 6’6 shooting guard Michael jordan and the announcer goes “ well the nuggets don’t have a true point guard in the game”. It’s crazy how much the game has changed. This dude would probably be the best point guard in the nba today
Check the play at the 11:05 mark to see how NBA rules have changed. Nowadays with that "gather step" b.s. in the rule book, this play would NOT be called traveling. This is an example of how scoring is easier today than it used to be.
That traveling call on scottie at around 11:00 would have been a normal take to the basketball in today’s game. The refs were still more strict with the rules back then
It wasn’t a strict call (back then). It was just the rules being enforced as the game is designed to be played. Same with the moving screens that get people open today. It’s easier to let very athletic but skillfully limited players get away with calls now than to enforce skill development on the business side of basketball. You used to actually have to play like a star for a little while before you got perceived as one.
His career high is 51,not 71. He played 8years in the nba. Compare his only 8years to Curry and Jordan's 1st 8years. As you can see Curry and Jordan had already built hall of fame resumes in there 1st 8seasons. Rauf was never on a hall of fame trajectory. Stats don't lie,but people do.
Jordan at this point in his career wasn’t the high flyer of his youth. He still could and did dunk quite a bit but he couldn’t simply jump over everyone at this point. Dunks like he had over guys like Ewing earlier in his career, he just didn’t have that much lift anymore. Kobe did the same later in his career too, he very seldom dunked unless it was wide open.
The thumbnail said better than Curry which is not true but he did have a game.. but this does dispels the notion that people like Curry wouldn't cook in the 90s!!
Isn't there a story that jordan hates playing against Abdul-Rauf cuz he could just score no matter how jordan guards him. He was just so quicker than his opponents and as soon as he gets open he'll shoot it no matter what. Can you imagine if he plays in today's game.
That's not true. He was just good player who could shoot 3s,not great. Curry was already a hall of famer after his 1st 8seasons. Rauf only played 8years and was never on a hall of fame trajectory. Love that Nuggets team. Abdul Rauf’s game was the pinnacle of 90s shoot-first guards, a precursor to Steph, Trey, Dame etc. Back then, shooting threes (or long twos) off the dribble seemed rare. His dribble moves and high leaping jump shot feel like throwbacks, versus the hesis, step backs and chest shots of say a Trey or Lamelo.
“He battled Tourette’s syndrome. His shots had to rotate correctly. The ball had to glance through the net perfectly. If one attempt even so much as felt off, he’d have to start the process over again. “You saw nothing wrong with the shot, saw nothing wrong with his release, but for him, it didn’t feel right,” Pack said. “It didn’t leave his hand right, it didn’t hit the net right…People who were there, we know why he was such an amazing player because obviously the disease he had, he never used it as a crutch, he only used it to make him better.”

Mahmoud was lethal just like Steph was. To the ones to young to have seen him, he was money!
Look at his latest video

I will never forget this game. The bulls made a raging comeback led by Jordan and Steve Kerr. But ran outta gas. What have been 42-2 in February.
I remembered this game! It was really amazing...

@We Are A Beautiful People exactly. That’s crazy
The refs were still more strict with the rules back then
Exactly lol
That’s what I said. Would have not been called today…. LeBron does it and many others.. lol.
