  • I really loved this story to write and edit from start to finish. My documentary is about a forgotten basketball legend. This is the legend of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. Blackballed at the age of 26, the best time of his career. He is considered as a prototype of today's players Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, and Trae Young.
Written and produced by Oldskoolbball (Tarik Arslan)
Editing program I use: Premiere Pro CC

I fully agree. Yet, looking at this from the good side, he made the noblest thing and made history in a way few people has done and no NBA titles, honor could have done. He has sacrificed millions and millions of dollars and NBA Hall of Fame title just to express and reveal what he believes in. Very few people do that at the expense of millions of dollars.

I am a Fenerbahce Basketball fan from Turkey. This most humble and kind person played for Fenerbahce but at that time our organisation managers were idiots. Could not handle the value of Rauf. I am 48, I grew up watching him. We never witnessed something like him. He dropped over 50 against Stockton. Stockton was my hero. He shattered into pieces Stock before my eyes on the TV. Later, his conversion is the main story for us in Turkey; we were in tears when his career was busted by idiots. Rauf is one of the first 3 shooting guards of all time for me. My apologies to his teammates in Denver but they couldn't keep up with him. We know him exactly as who he is. Love him whatever he does. He is a wonderful human being. We hope to see him on big 3 more. He is still a blink of an eye fast compared to his same-aged players. May Allah bless you, brother.

@@samuelrigaud6595 You don't know what you talking about. I'm Muslim ALHAMDULILLAH, and we know exactly his sacrifices. A true believer carries his Islam (Submission and worship ONLY to the ONE GOD) on his head and this world in his hands, and if his head is shaking and his Islam is about to fall off his head, he drops this world's things from his hands and catches his Islam. But the hypocrites and disbelievers do it the other way around.
It's not only the standing up for something out of honor, which Islam prohibits, because there're clear evidences, Ahādīth, that the Messenger of God Muhammad, Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, forbade his companions to do that, and that they don't make something out of him what the Christians made out of Jesus, peace be upon him, they made him their false god they worship, but music with instruments in general is forbidden (HARĀM) as well, so Abdur-Ra'ūf just practiced what God commanded him to do, that's it. May Allah give him the highest rank in Jannah, amin!
And the fact that OTHER Muslims play in the NBA, is no evidence IF something is allowed (HALĀL) or prohibited (HARĀM) in Islam, the evidences are the QUR'ĀN and the SUNNAH of God's Messenger Muhammad, Allah's blessings and peace be upon him. I know Muslims or those who call themselves like this, they don't even pray the obligatory 5 daily prayers, which is the main pillar in Islam after the pillar of testimony (shahādah), which is the 1st, or those who drink alcohol or whatever sins they practice, all of this DOESN'T mean that it's allowed!!!

@@samuelrigaud6595 Man people are just like book carrying donkeys. You simply don't understand anything what is said to you. Stop talking in the name of Islam dude, who are you?! You ain't even a Muslim and like mentioned, if a Muslim drinks alcohol, it doesn't mean it's allowed, how stupid can someone just be, it's unbelievable. I'll just say to you the same like that other dude:
Like I've mentioned, you don't know what you talking about. One of my destinations of studying Islamic sciences was Mekkah where I was learning from scholars from the Ummul Qura University, where did you study, if I may ask? Right, so I gave you the most simple example, there're Muslims who drink alcohol, and everyone knows that alcohol is HARĀM (forbidden), so by your false logic, alcohol is allowed in Islam. What the hell you talking about, please stop embarrassing yourself, there is no "interpretation" in this, there's QUR'ĀN and SUNNAH, which means ALLAH said and the MESSENGER MUHAMMED said, nothing else can be taken as textual evidence in Islamic sciences.
Here for you since you forced me to quote the evidences:
Allah says in the Qur'ān (translation of the meanings):
_“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah…”_ [Qur'ān 31:6]
The scholar of the ummah (Muslim nation), Ibn 'Abbas (a known companion of the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with him) said: _This means singing._ Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: _This means playing the drum (tabl)._ (Tafsir al-Tabari, 21/40)
Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: _This ayah (verse) was revealed concerning singing and musical instruments (lit. woodwind instruments)._ (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 3/451)
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: _“Do not sell singing slave women, do not buy them and do not teach them. There is nothing good in this trade, and their price is haram (forbidden)."_ Concerning such things as this the ayah was revealed (translation of the meanings): _And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah…_ [Qur'ān 31:6].” (Hasan hadith)
The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad, pbuh, said:
_“Among my ummah (Muslim nation) there will certainly be people who permit zina (fornication), (wearing) silk (for men), alcohol and musical instruments…”_ (Al-Bukhāri 5590, narrated as mawsul by al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Sahihah by al-Albani, 91).
This hadith (narration) indicates in two ways that musical instruments and enjoyment of listening to music are haram (forbidden). The first is the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: _“[they] permit_” which clearly indicates that the things mentioned, including musical instruments, are haram (forbidden) according to shari’ah (Islamic law), but those people will permit them. The second is the fact that musical instruments are mentioned alongside things which are definitely known to be haram (forbidden), i.e., zina and alcohol: if they (musical instruments) were not haram, why would they be mentioned alongside these things? (adapted from al-Silsilah al-Sahihah by al-Albani, 1/140-141)
Also standing up for something or someone (Fatwa):
Standing up for a newcomer is not the standing mentioned in the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him):
_“Whoever likes the people to stand up for him, let him take his place in Hell.”_ Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2755; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi. That refers to when they stand up for him when he is seated; it does not refer to when they stand up to welcome him when he comes. Hence the scholars differentiated between the two types of standing, because those who stand up to greet a newcomer are equal with him, unlike those who stand for one who remains seated.
It was proven in Saheeh Muslim that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) led them in prayer sitting down, because he was ill, and they prayed standing, he told them to sit down and said: “Do not venerate me as the Persians venerate one another.” And he forbade them to stand in prayer whilst he was sitting, lest they resemble the Persians who used to stand for their leaders whilst the leaders were seated. In conclusion, the best is to follow the customs and attitude and views of the salaf as much as possible.
So, who are you again? And stop spreading lies about Islam

2 things. 1. The Charles Barkley “I’m not a role model” ad was aimed at being more than just a basketball player. Too many of our kids only see being an athlete as the only way to be successful. 2. From 1996 till 2018 people and organizations change. So while yes in 1996, it was a problem, Kaep would have been better suited in the NBA in 2018.

Jesus himself called God in Aramaic as _ELAH_ in Hebrew it's _ELOHA_ or _ELLOHIM_ in Arabic it's _ILĀH_ , all of these means _GOD_ and are Semitic languages, but _ALLĀH_ is one of the 99 names which has been revealed by GOD and is the most important one, which includes all His other names and attributes. Arabic Christians say _ALLĀH_ as well

The 51 against Stockton is legendary. Rauf literally looks like a MyPlayer playing on Rookie difficulty. “Pass out of double, call for it back, one two dribble, kick out, slither to an open spot and shoot it half a second after it hits the hands” or “Calls for the ball on the wing, half spin into a contested three, nothing but net” or “Dribble drive, stop on dime, pass out, relocate, call for ball, patented pump fake fly by, ultra quick release swish”
The full footage is somewhere on TH-cam. You have to see it to believe it. This man was blackballed out of a potential HOF induction and definitely a record or two.

But also developed in terms of human empathy, general view on how things stand with social/racial injustice in US and how US take advantage of it's position to opress other countries, got bullied by majority of US society that's highly uneducated and belives that sunday beer combined with BigMac and game on TV means "land of freedom"...
