Gibbs and McGee farewell is a father and son moment. Gibbs was more of a father to Tim much more than his father. I love where Gibbs picked to retire cause he finally found peace.
Love the symbolism of him fishing in waders as the last time we see him. Guy spent 20+ years building boats as a "hobby" (prolonged trauma response), and when that's finally taken away from him and he has to adapt, he realises he's finally got pass the seventh stage of his grief and is happy again.
The whole series he didn't really know what he wanted from life, so he made a billion different things to distract him (building boats, secret missions, visiting his hometown, etc.), and in his very last scene on the show he tells McGee that he doesn't know what he's looking for in a tone that can only be described as contented excitement
Wasn't sure it was possible, but they managed to give Gibbs a perfect happy ending after nearly 20 years, and it was so well earned

I grew up watching this show religiously. Got old went to college had to work forgot about the show. This is great summary of the character Gibbs.
And starting next season he’ll be back

Nothing's been announced or confirmed about Gibbs coming back to the main show, and if he does I doubt its more than a guest spot here and there like Craigan does on Law & Order SVU these days (I hope thats the case anyway, I like Agent Parker too much lol)

Them saying, "He doesn't want it (his badge) back." , was like him saying he didn't want *us* back. It just broke me. Like flying away knowing you'd never see your Dad again. We miss you , Gibbs. (And Mr. Harmon, thank you. Thank you for giving us this character.)

@@brayidurYea I would agree. I watched this scene and it felt like these two were breaking character and showing their true emotions. It is hard to say goodbye to someone you have worked beside for so long but sometimes that is life. The moment these two hug and Tim starts to cry is the moment I start to cry. I miss this show so much.
Ducky and Gibbs both have been tear jerkers for me 😭😭
Two grown men. A teacher and a student . Now the student becomes the teacher and the teacher, finds a new way.
Two friends, two comrades in arms, two virtual brothers now on their own charted courses and as to where each ones goes, only time will tell .

The last farewell scenes of Dinozzo, Gibbs and Ducky still bring tears to my eyes.

@@laurie686Gibbs, by no means a perfect man himself, was a father figure to his team because he gave each of his "kids" something their actual fathers didn't or didn't give enough of: attention (Tony); availability (Nick); emotional support (Ziva); acceptance (McGee). In the case of Abby and Kasie, their fathers were deceased and Gibbs filled that void, as he did when Ziva and Tim lost their fathers.
The hardest part about NCIS is watching McGee lose all his family.

Ah yeah I been watching NCIS on Netflix and just had to switch over to prime to watch the rest just seen this part today and yeah it was pretty sad McGee did lose everyone him an Jim an vance are the only 3 original members still standing I ain't really a fan of Nick or the other dude the girl is ok but it's not the same an never will be now I think they should have ended it here Gibbs an McGee an Tony an Kate an zeva all had a good run these new people blah

Between the massive turnover on NCIS and the cancellation of Blue Bloods, CBS is killing me
3:36 Tim so completely earned that whole thing. As much as i love the whole team, McGee is special, and Gibbs acknowledged that, and gave him an amazing gift. He never said "I love you" to the others (iirc). While its true he didn't have to, they knew he loved them, and he showed that love through his actions. He never said the words. But he did to McGee, because he'd earned that moment, and, ai think, because Gibbs wanted him to be able to have that to take with him when he left. The others - Ziva, Tony, Abby - left Gibbs, and had their reasons and lives waiting for them. But McGee was going back to his life, Gibbs' old life, without him. I'm just still really emotional and grateful for this scene, okay?
I think he told Tim that because Tim was insecure due to his father never really showing him love so Gibbs chose to say goodbye with love for him. ❤❤❤ but that’s my take on it.
at this point mcgee has patched up most stuff with his father after gibbs gave his father the talk i think this is more about the fact that gibbs never thought someone else would be the last man on the hilltop as it was and realised mcgee is gonna now do the same thing gibbs did which is watch teammates come and go so he wanted to leave in the most positive light possible.@@heatherwicker9990
@@heatherwicker9990I agree. I think the others got their love in other ways. Ziva booped Gibbs nose...no one else got to do that. Tony at the end got a hug and a pat on the head...instead of a head slap. McGee got the I love you his dad never gave him. Abby's end was less personal I think...but that's because of the difficulties between Pauley P and Mark H...And now I need tissues.
Gibbs was the best boss always bringing the best out of his team and the team brought the best out of him as well . Thank God for the real life mentors like Gibbs
The way they said that they love eachother made me ugly cry. I hate that Gibbs is gone, but he deserved to finally find peace.
This last scene inspired me to go beyond myself and face some big time fears that I did the very next day. Thanks to the writers!! The white mountains were gorgeous!
All the back and forth, ups and downs, and they all remain family. Gibbs, Tony, Ziva, McGee,… We could learn something from the shows we love. A friend is a friend, family is family, no matter what. We have become to comfortable throwing people away. We recycle, save the whales, but we forget about people way too easily.

Gibbs promised Ducky way back in Season 9 that he would be the Executor of Ducky's will. I've not heard any mention of that. Guess we'll find out soon enough if the writers remembered and reached out to Mark Harmon and reminded him too.

Would imagine since Gibbs remained in Alaska, Ducky would've asked Palmer to be executor of his estate.
This show meant the world to me and my mom growing up
She was bedridden for the large part of my teenage years and on and this was what we watched alot when i spent time with her
She passed away in july and scenes like this for some reason hurt more than ever when i go back and watch the show
I was in tears a few hours ago when i found out that ducky passed away in real life only two months after my mom did and it stings
Thank you for the happy and the sad moments this show brought and will continue to bring me
I picked up fly fishing after this, lol bought myself some gear and going to practice. I think it is so peaceful and beautiful to watch.

Every once in awhile, or maybe once in a lifetime, we get a show with characters that resonate for us. Mark Harmon was the center of this series and the cast did a bang up job. The emotions felt from their efforts speaks on how talented they were at their craft. Sure the writers put pen to paper, but the cast brought it to life. Go not gentle into that night, rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Without the main team NCIS is difficult to watch and the no1 character I look up to says goodbye and David's death hits me hard

The show just hasn’t been the same since Gibbs’ departure, the writers/producers really should’ve written Tim into the lead role, instead of bringing in someone totally new. Not that I think Gary Cole is a bad actor, but the character of Alden Parker just puts me off somehow and makes the show less likable. Having Timothy McGee stagnate in a subordinate role, after 18 years of faithful, loyal service doesn’t seem right to me, especially given whom they replaced Gibbs with…
Maybe so, but honestly McGee makes a better probie than leader.

I have watched this show from the beginning but now it's time just like everything to end. Gibbs and Ducky are gone
Boss and employee. Teacher and student. Mentor and mentee. Father and son. Gibbs and McGee are all these in one. This goodbye is not just McGee saying it to Gibbs, but also Sean Murray saying it to Mark Harmon 😢 NCIS should've ended right here. But for me the ending began after DiNozzo left. It truly ended after the death of David McCallum (Ducky). After that, only Mark Harmon, Sean Murray and Rocky Carroll remained of the original cast (yes, Vance debuted in Season 5, but he came on board when Gibbs, DiNozzo, McGee, Ducky, Ziva, and Abby were still running around together).

I stopped watching NCIS about 5 years ago before all this happened, I used to watch it with my old mum and we got to know it so well we would know the script before they even said the words... she died in 2019 and I haven't really been able to watch it since. I've heard a lot of not great reports about its decline. I know Gary Cole as he was in a short run sci-fi show which was ruined by studio execs and cancelled by its creator rather than see it ruined, so I know he's a good actor.... but NCIS without Ducky and Gibbs?? I don't know.. it was bad enough when Ziva and Dinozzo left..... I guess I should catch up... Its likely to be as painful as watching this.

I wish they kind of ended the show & not carry it on to where you kind of start losing interest due to casting leaving the show.
There were some real good casting / original cast members that I wish they never left the show. The show started going a little downhill after DiNozzo left..
They should have ended it by Gibbs telling McGee this is your team now or something like that.

I wish they come up with an episode that Gibbs wife and his daughter is alive and well for real.
I think that would've undermined this beautiful scene of Gibbs coming to terms with their loss. If they showed up, alive and well, then he'd have more emotional damage to get over, "why didn't you ever contact me"? "I mourned you for years and you just now decide to come back"? It would have been a unnecessary mess and Gibbs doesn't deserve that.
@@jamesdaniels8007exactly, it wouldn’t just undermine the entire series for the Gibbs character, but it would be an unrealistic stab for every parent and service member who’ve lost children and spouses and subsequently gravitated towards the Gibbs character.
