- In this video I show you how to get the Ebay/Amazon, or any other 3rd party cable to work with VCDS Lite. This cable will only work with VCDS Lite and you will therefore have limited options and functions.

Yet another thank you. My problem was in two parts. 1, the VAGcom came with a disk which I couldn't get to work (load the driver) so as you suggested I downloaded from the ross-tech site - which worked fine. 2, You showed how to change the COM port, mine was reading 7 - so I changed it to 2. Then it all worked fine.

Thanks mate! Got it working. I successfully tested the interface in VCDS Lite only after connecting it to the OBD II port and starting the engine.
But can you make modifications?

Worked perfectly with my $20 Amazon VAG KKL adapter in a 2009 Audi A4 Cabriolet 8HE. Didn't need to use the convoluted drivers that where on the CD it came with. Successfully managed to recode my Symphony II+ radio with it to enable Aux input.

Thanks a lot, I have my ebay cable setup correctly with my 2003 Jetta Diesel. When I open VCDS-Lite, I click on "Select" in Control Module, then click on "01-Engine", it tries to communicate and fails after a few seconds and shows an error "too many errors...". Any idea how to fix that? Thanks.

Hey,a bit of help here. This is where am stuck.... Port Does Not Exist, Interface Not found. I've tried switching between COM1 and COM2 since COM3 and COM4 are in use , but outcome is the same when I press Test!

I de andre utstyrspakkene så ligger dette på både rattet og på en knapp på vindusviskerkontrollen. Men spørsmålet blir altså om det er mulig å låse opp forbruket som en feature ved bruk av VCDS Lite for å få det opp på førerdisplayet?

After i plug in my cable and I go to device manager, My Cable still just reads as "USB Serial" In other devices. So I'm guessing this didn't work

VCDS Lite only works with 2005 and older cars according to Ross-Tech.. is that true? (I wanted to use it to change some of my settings on my 2012 VW T5) ?
this is true. Worked 100% on my 2004 MK4 GLS, but did not work on my 2012 Golf R
There's a good chance that VCDS-Lite will not work on any VAG vehicle post 2004. (I don't think that VCDS-Lite software has been updated since the early 2000s.) VCDS-Lite uses what is known as a dumb cable. The full paid version required a special cable incorporating a dongle to stop piracy. That dongle not only ensured that the the copy of VCDS was legitimate by checking the license when it went on-line but if not it corrupted the cable. Hence saying that you should turn off all network connectivity when it is connected. The latest version of VCDS appears to use Bluetooth to connect from your laptop to the OBDII connector doing away with cables completely.

you need vcds 10.6 and higher version with can bus communication. version in this video is for vehicles without can bus.
Will the VCDS program clear the transmission memory? I installed a new valve body in a 2005 VW Beetle 1.8L T 6 speed auto and I need to re learn the transmission.

Hi, i had the same problem. I download the driver from link in description, then i run Driverhub. Drivierhub find this driver and we just need cilck "instal". Computer must run again and now, in device manager the cabel is reading properly. Try this, maybe it would help to you.
can i use this method to adjust my start/stop VW to accept a more powerful starter battery?
After installing the drivers and doing everything l can't find the cable in the device manager. Or rather is does not show as port but under other units then USB2.0-serial. what does that mean? Can't update drivers manually by choosing the folder, please help

you should put a link to buy the vcds lite licence, i bought it after watching this. $99 0r £78 in my case best buy ever. i had to bleed abs pump on my mk4 golf. now i can put my windows up and down with my key fob.

Does VCDS Lite work with 2006 Audi A3? Looks like you have an Audi of about that year in the video. I was told my A3 was too new to work with VCDS Lite and the KKL cable

@@danieldavis4334 it won't work. The '06 A3 is based on the Mk V VW Golf/GTI platform and electronics. The VCDS Lite app only works up to Mk IV. I had to buy the $200+ software and cable from Ross Tech.

Mine is stuck on com 6 and i cant re write it
If you don't know how to change com port settings, just install the software into another laptop - you'll be unlikely to find two configuring it as COM6.
Alternatively, go into your computer bios (at startup) and disable all COM ports. Then uninstall both driver and software, before restarting and re-installing. That'll do it. You can always re-enable the BIOS COM ports afterwards, if you really do need serial comms for anything?

2004 mk4's are the newest ones you can use these things on.

Asif Kruz those cables only work on older cars.. you need a can cable for newer vehicles
have you got the cable in to the car? i got this error until testing whilst connected to the car. check device manager / ports / look what number port it is 1,2,3,4, etc, then make sure you test with the correct port selected. I have a £5 ebay cable and a licenced VCDS lite, i can do everything i need with that

VCDS is full version and VCDS lite is free but limited functions.
What are the "limited functions" What can't the lite version do?
VCDS-lite has limited functions vs full version. U cant adapt or recode modules with lite. U can check fault codes and clear them. VCDS-Lite shows all the DTC's but gives description only on 1st faultcode.
