I grew up in New England and knew a lot of middle aged “friends” like this. One was literally a Unitarian minister.
What's a Unitarian?
@@ImJustSaijan Technically it’s a sect of Christianity that views good as one being rather than the Trinity but in practicality it’s just a super liberal type of religion that’s popular in New England cause they don’t require you to go to church in the summer (when a lot of people are at lake houses/vacation).

It was set in the 90s but would have been far better with Jones back on the show being her hyperactive/funny self.
Overall, the skit was stupid-bland. This cast is damn funny but the writers kinda suck!
It's better as an easter egg because it's a period piece and it's perfect for the guest hosts type. It's a great easter egg... let's see if next time Leslie is on they easter egg Kristin or something 🤓

Fifteen or so years ago I worked with a woman in her early sixties who was sometimes met at our workplace by her "sister." Each time she was introduced to me as such, my heart broke a little.
It's..... different, I can say that. I've been with my partner for 10 years now and I'm still introduced as his "nephew" or "friend". :/

Sometimes it might somewhat literally be the case. Prior to same-sex marriage, couples would legally adopt each other, particularly common in relationships where one partner is older. I don't know how "sister" would happen, but yeah. I had an interesting experience where my father-in-law would introduce both my husband and me as his sons. Not 100% honest, but he was still claiming me as family, so I didn't say anything.
My sweet childless aunts made sure to live next to each other (and my grandma) forthe entirety of their lives . They would make sure to visit each other every single day and took care of the other until the day she died. They were raised to be close to each other and take care of each other. They survived communism and depression.They had short hair and wore pants and button up shirts regularly because they dressed for functionality. They were certainly not lesbians tho and if anybody thought that about them I and they would be offended. (Not even from the homosexuality but because incestuous implications) Maybe u should mind ur own business instead of imposing sexuality onto strangers. They obviously didn’t want it to be any of ur business.
There was a woman at my workplace a decade ago who seemed very butch. One day a car drove up and she ran up to it and got in and chatted to a woman inside. She came out later and loudly declared that that was her 'best friend'. It was rather obvious she was trying too hard to seem hetero. Made me sad.

As someone who was raised as a Unitarian Universalist, I can say that this is exactly what some ministers look like. Also, this sketch made me so happy. Like, it taps into a very specific kind of "we see you" message while making those "wow they're just really good friends" jokes. I can't explain how it's different from other sketches, but this one is it, folks. Truly well done!
