  • Holiness Leviticus 20: 26
“And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.”
When I was growing up, my mother and father always had us in church somewhere every Sunday. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays, we would attend our home church, Roundtree Grove B.C. On the 4th Sunday, we would go to my mom’s membership church, Union Chapel B.C. in Garfield, GA. On the 2nd Sunday, we would attend Sunday School at the home church and in the afternoon, we would attend Charity Meeting at various churches in that association. We grew up going to mainly churches affiliated with the Missionary Baptist denomination. All of these churches had the same structure and programs and they seem to follow a certain script that was passed on from generation to generation.
And every now and then, my father and mother would take us to certain churches that didn’t act like us. They didn’t carry on like we did; they didn’t follow the program or script that we were accustomed to; they didn’t mind shouting like they lost their minds; and every now and then someone would break out talking in a language that we couldn’t understand. These folks would start church at 11 am and stay until 6 pm. And we could identify them in public because they didn’t act like everybody else. The women would always wear dresses with no make-up on their face and the men and boys would never wear short pants. And they, along with us, gave the name or stigma to their church or denomination as the Holiness Church!
They were partly right!! They didn’t do what a lot of us were doing. They didn’t act like a lot of us did act. They didn’t mind letting folks know what “church” they belonged to and who their pastor or bishop was. But one thing they didn’t have right is the fact that the term “Holiness” is not about a church building! The term “Holiness” is not about a denomination! The term “Holiness” is not about your pastor or your bishop! The term “holiness” is a description of what and how every child of God should be living! Every child of God is called to walk in HOLINESS!!
(Please be blessed by the entire message!)
Thank you for your continued support!
