Dany's ability to transmit anger in one line and transition seamlessly to pain in the next is what is required to pull off this song. Master class vocals.
From the women who normally is pounding her snare so hard it seems she is trying to hit the bottom head; here she is doing brushwork and ghost notes like a 20-year jazz snob vet without a misstep. Pau and Ale are creating a pocket while still maintaining their level of complexity. The sisters never cease to amaze me.
Gotta love Ale... playing beautiful, complex bass lines while looking like she's wondering what to have for dinner. Pau being too cool for school, playing a style that's got to be out of her comfort zone. And Dany.... oh Dany, the perfect picking, the power chords and the voice... OMG, the voice! These girls are just Wonderful!
I think you were hearing her hi-hat work, not a shaker track. She uses Abelton on her laptop to run tracks, but here you can see Ableton is not engaged (not set to play). It's waiting for the next song in the queue. So no tracks on this song.
I like both versions and find it impossible to choose between them. Dany’s voice and Alé’s bass runs combined with Pau’s restrained drumming is sublime!
Came to comment on it too. She's doing a "bark" on the hat. You can see her body tipping when she lifts her leg. I do also hear a little something, like a light snare roll there too. (I could be wrong it's so subtle) They're known to add subtle tracks in some of their songs.
They use backing tracks, they have talked about it multiple times. They do record those tracks themselves. That “shaker” sound, I thought it was the hi-hat 🤷🏽♂️ 😂. By the way, this cover is the radio version of the song.
It’s not a question of “better”. Alanis wrote the original. She got a bunch of excellent musicians to record it, and performed it with different musicians. It was one of her greatest hits. It’s obviously a great song, and it’s hers. The Warning like the song, and paid homage. They are a three-piece. They do vocals and play the instruments simultaneously. And Pau is half asleep doing the drum part. The Warning made the song their own without expropriating the author, just as they did with Metallica’s Enter Sandman - but in the latter case, they switched it up completely, and yes, this one, they made better. It’s a lullaby after all. DPA’s arrangement is much better than Metallica’s original treatment, in my view. The Alanis cover here is very true to the original, and DPA just hold their own, extremely well, as you can expect them to. Dany’s voice will cope with any rock song, but she goes for different nuances than Alanis, and that’s perfectly ok. If you ask me for a difference - if I was the guy they sing about, I would question my moral integrity listening to Alanis, but I would be slightly worried about my wellbeing listening to Dany. That’s the confidence of having your sisters right behind you, I guess…
Dany absolutely Crushed it, and Pau was feeling it also (Paulina's favorite breakup song), but Ale... Thunder Goddess strikes again !!! ⚡Viva The WARNING⚡ NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan🤘😎🤘.
No one could avoid the original if you listened to alternative radio in the 90s, but I never listened closely. I was a bit more consumed with metal and shoegaze at the time. But this version by The Warning has just made me love this song like it just came out last week. So for me it's certainly better than the original. Thanks. (Just found your page on FB.)
Great reaction my man....now you need to see the other 5 songs they did here at Sirius Xm ...just fabulous and the audio is freaking great. Cheers. Rock on!!!
I agree, as i prefer Dany uber alles, je t'adore... Especially that gorgeous vocal breakdown. The guitar work in the arpegiated notes, and during that breakdown, is just so good. I believe it shows a side of Dany we haven't seen yet, contrasting with her raw power in the "angry" sections. Masterful!
the watning should record an ep with covers... a remake of the covers of acdc, motley crue, metallica, muse, now with more developed and tuned vocal skills and how to play their instruments... it would be...!!wow!!
Both versions are excellent, but like you I am biased towards The Warning. Superfan for five years now and have never been disappointed with anything they do. ✌️❤️🔥
Good pick up on the shaker track. I thought it was just the hi-hat kept slightly open. Pau uses a track here for the 16th notes with brushes on the snare, while she uses a single brush to sweep the snare. That is most noticeable in the brief sight we get of the brush in her right hand -- the track continues as she drops the brush to pick up her second stick and, to my ears, ends when she returns to the hi-hat. Dany also uses guitar tracks in this performance, for the more ethereal sounds through much of the song.
@atflokee And yet, there are tracks playing. Perhaps added in post-production? But that would be very unlike The Warning from what I've seen of their live performances.
Maybe not better than Alanis (like I’ve heard from a few people) -- I mean, come on... Jagged Little Pill was a masterpiece of composition and execution -- but the sisters did it 100% justice! 🤘Thx, D-Attic!
It’s fine to have a preference, but the song has always been an absolute banger for about 30 years straight. It’s only a matter of whether one actually listened to it.
This is what the girls are capable of , nice natural and clean sound , not a fan of over processed ,lack of true harmonies , too much layering , productions .I hope that their next album is more like this , but it won't most likely . They should take more control on the production side .
AFAIK, they do have full control over production... they are involved in every aspect and are always requesting changes when they feel the change is warranted...
@@WaldoKitty Are you part of their team? Are you also involved in every aspect of production? I fear the girls will get conned by the "just give it to me and I'll make it wonderful" line by producers. Just give me "real" every time.......they're that good!

The cover is musically better done than the original. No doubt about that. But that does not take anything from Alanis Morissette who wrote this excellent song. Having three musicians as talented as the Villarreal sisters, you can cover almost anything better than the original.

It’s the hi hat opened up slightly and closed that’s the sizzle you’re hearing brother…Pau’s in the pocket!!
Yup! That's what I came to the comments for right there!
Agree, you can see it in one of the close ups. She throws that little off-beat sizzle into a couple of their other songs.
Was going to write the same. I think Pau opened it up more than she usually has it to run a more jazz type sound.
