    I've read somewhere that Adi Gallia used red specifically because at the time the jedi believed the sith have been extinct for 1000 years and that believing a lightsaber was "evil" just because it was red was ridiculous. Also, she switched to blue because the Sith returned and she didn't want to be confused as one. Can't remember where I read that, though.

    Looking at Sharad Hett, as a Jedi he was the poster boy for the Jedi Peacekeeper. He had so many titles and achieved so much good in the pursuit of justice. And for Hett that mindset didn’t really change when he became a Tusken Raider. He saw their raids as a just act because their natural resources were being taken by people who were not from Tatooine. Somewhere between his heroic acts of a Jedi and the loss of his family and self imposed exile, something changed inside him. Perhaps the dark side affected him more than he realised, turning his universal sense of justice in an almost personal vendetta to rally to the disparate Tusken tribes into a larger singular army to fight back against the settlers. And as a Tusken, both he and A’Sharad would quickly learn the harsh reality of surviving the unforgiving sands of Tatooine. Perhaps it is from that primal need to survive that turned their crystals red (more so A’Sharad since his father already had a red blade) and as is said in the video, time is of the essence for a nomadic tribe always on the move.
    I like the idea that the red blade for a Jedi represents justice achieved through (almost) any means necessary. Like Jedi who wield purple blades are said to walk the line between the light and dark sides, I believe that Jedi with red blades walk a fine line between justice and vengeance.

    Again I did comment about something like this in the "Sith That didn't use Red Lightsabers" video but Krayt Pear's can be found in blue, green, red, white, and black. So in theory, if you had a red Krayt Pearl logic dictates that the pearl should produce a red plasma blade in a Lightsaber or a black Krayt Pearl should make a black plasma blade. To make it clear there is no Expanded Universe lore to back up the claims here. Regardless, I do enjoy thinking that the Hett son and dad duo were originally using red Krayt Pearls because of the religious importance Krayt Pearl's have in Tusken society.

      @@Akbar_and_Shaa no those just add more to the overall story and gives actual credence to the power that is the force. It shows that Jedi and with in legends are much more powerful then we ever believed, and until Disney came along was the mainstream canon. Perhaps your reasoning for disliking such power is how often it’s used or the deviation from skill and swordsman ship to planet busting power. But I find that it adds more personally. It is widely known that force users even sith almost always hold back in terms of power for the Jedi to avoid casualties, and for the sith to protect themselves from their own power. Also if any powerful sith went around destroying planets non stop there wouldn’t be much of a reason to be a sith anymore, which is why most of them don’t. If they do gain something out of it however then they most definitely will destroy it. Like with darth nialus and his constant planet surface destruction for his hunger

    TLDW: Jedi with red blades were mostly before George Lucas’s mandate that Jedi wield green/blue lightsabers while sith use red blades. Most red blade wielding Jedi were retconned to the more traditional colours

  • @ariesstorm9577
    @ariesstorm9577 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Rewatching this video got me thinking how the three main practitioners of Vaapad appeared to approach the form differently just by looking at their lightsabers. Firstly you have Mace Windu, who is primarily uses a purple blade (a colour that is a combination of blue and red) but also uses a blue crystal. The purple crystal working for him because of his own inner darkness. Then you have Sora Bulq who used blue lightsabers throughout his entire career and only using red once he fully committed himself to the dark side. Finally there is Depa Billaba who uses a red lightsaber with the crystal as a focal point for the dark side so that she can better use Vaapad, using the red crystal in times of more “aggressive negotiations” while also switching over to her green crystal on other occasions. By the time of Shatterpoint her fall to the dark side means that the red crystal is no longer required so she is able to fully embrace and utilise Vaapad.

  • @Daniel_Huffman
    @Daniel_Huffman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    The common reason for these Jedi to use red blades and the varied reasons for the Sith Lords who didn't wield red blades is rather symbolic if you think about it: With the non-red Sith having so many reasons for their blade differences, it plays into the trap that the Sith fall into: Infighting. For all we know, with The Galaxy being so large and with thousands of years of war, there may have been two or more Sith who disagreed so much as to why not to use a red-bladed lightsaber that one of them ended up killing the other. By contrast, the Jedi who _did_ use red-bladed lightsabers, as you pointed out, seemed to all have a single, unifying reason to do so, showing that for all their flaws, particularly near the end of their heyday, the Jedi would still look out for each other and stand as one.
    If my name seems familiar, it's because I comment sometimes on the Fanalysis reviews on the Harry Potter chapters, typically giving insight and Fridge Brilliance from TV Tropes.

      @@EvanNova95 on the topic of Fanalysis, I'm guessing that the reason for Episode 9 being the last Star Wars discussion video you guys did has something to do with the unfortunate circumstances that have derailed everything this year. Either way, it's really unfortunate as some of those videos encouraged me to start exploring Legends deeper than I had previously with stuff like the Dark Lord Trilogy last year. Getting the Clone Wars Omnibuses for Christmas and my Birthday last year helped get my love for Star Wars back after I was incredibly underwhelmed by Rise of Skywalker and hated most of the film. I think those Omnibuses contain some of my favourite comics in all of Star Wars and they make me wish I was old enough to enjoy the prime of the expanded universe as content came out. Since individuals are diverse and the crystals are supposed to change color based on the state of the force and personality of the force user by how the Kyber Crystals work we should be seeing a whole range of colors. If you say they're supposed to change color due to the mood for lack of a better term how can you say that the greens and blues weren't for bravery or kind of like a rally a few of the jedi genuinely thought that the sight of so many lightsabers would cause the enemy to surrender

      That's why I feel like a lot of the new canon contradicts some things we already saw in other canon material. Like, I kind of rationalize the dominance of the dominance of and green and blue lightsabers by saying that by the time of the fall of the Republic, the order was almost exclusively relying on Ilum as a source of saber crystals, which probably only had blue and green in vast quantities. This is why other colors, like the purple of Mace Windu's saber and the yellow of Rey's by the time of RoS are exceedingly rare so you'd have to go out of your way to get something else.
      As for the red crystals, they can either be created synthetically through the dark side or made from former Jedi crystals through bleeding. I kind of like both and feel like they could coexist. Perhaps in times where the sith order was larger and needed more crystals, synthetic crystals could be used for the masses of apprentices, dark Jedi, and later sith inquisitors, while the sith lords needed to bleed a crystal they had taken from a Jedi to forge a true sith lightsaber.

    With the Hetts, there are a few different crystals available on tatooine. If you keep the lore from SWTOR in mind, there are multiple facilities on tatooine that were owned by the sith empire, and multiple facilities that were established by the infinite empire of the Rakata, so it would be reasonable to assume that synthetic crystals would be somewhere there, or at least the equipment to make them, though the Rakata used Orange crystals. Even beyond that, there are Krayt Dragon Pearls, which tend to provide a green blade but sometimes also provide them in other colors like white or purple. There are also of course plenty of natural minerals and gemstone mines, though there is no history of those having much in the way of the force. But then Lambent crystals were used in the post yuuzhan-vong war era, so that's not neccessarily a barrier.

    4:22 I thought that was Eeth Koth in AOTC which was why it was previously revealed that he died in the clone gunship you see be shot down on-screen before TCW retconned that.
    9:50 I guess I hadn't looked too deeply into that passage or mistook that passage to be attributing to when A'Sharad returned to Tatooine without realizing that he did it sometime later. And I do find that to be a pretty major retcon. In my headcanon, I like to think that he had multiple crystals much like Ki-Adi Mundi did in AOTC where he would use green crystals some of the time and red crystals other times.
    13:31 I have both of those figures. I don't know if I want to get Adi Gallia though, but I think it would be good to have that unique figure with the red lightsaber as a way to reflect on her comic book appearances with it.
