  • 2 day trip to Flagstaff testing the bed configuration and figuring out my core Van needs. My wife and I decided to take the opportunity and test out the van while helping our daughter move into a new house. Yeah, that bed is not gonna work for me! Next time its BLM land!! Just have to figure out the crapper or my wife won't come!! #vanlife #vanbuild #chevyexpress

You'll learn your needs as you go along. It's best to start out the way you are doing it.
I'm still working on mine a year later.
    I'm almost there!
    You'll get there too. 👍

yep, it helps I have a 25ft rv when I need to hit the road. Right now its hot in AZ hard to work on the Van. You got the time but not the money, got the money but not the time! LOL

I’ve got $150 memory foam mattress from Amazon in my semi that I trimmed with a butcher knife. Most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on! I think there are cheaper ones also. Can always get a mattress topper but those tear easy even the expensive ones.

Thx, this is a temp set up so my wife and I can escape the AZ summer heat up to Flagstaff. We use our RV pop out as an office/TV instead of the couch it came with. In the long run I will probably end up with a Japanese style futon style bed in the Van. Not there yet. 😄

Thank you, it will take a little time. One project at a time! Fortunately the government already spray foamed and paneled the entire ceiling and walls. It will make the build a lot easier after the flooring is done!!

Save money use 1 inch or just metric size 80/20. I used 1.5 inch. Metric size parts are cheaper and easier to get. Good luck! It's an experience for sure

Yep, I have been in the corporate staging industry for over 20 years, we build all kinds of stuff out extruded aluminum for convention booths etc. I will def be using the metric sizes, and not attempting making my own angle brackets, waste of time, just buy them outright. Probably do the 8020 for the heavier stuff, and the 8010 for the upper cabinets. We'll see, I am a couple months away from that part of the build, and there are a lot of other extruded aluminum products out there that I want to look into first. Thanks for your input!! Def looking forward to this portion of the build!

One thing at a time and next thing you know the Van will be off-grid and livable. I will be installing a roof fan and a marine hatch at some point. Going as stealth as possible for work purposes. Just need a little more money to order a few things. Next project is dealing with the topical rust on the floor and then primer. Going to be ordering kilmat sound deadener here soon!! Thank you for following along!!

Nice, I spent many years in the corporate staging industry building out scenic sets, trade shows and conventions. We use a lot of different extruded aluminum, a lot of different types and configurations depending on what your wanting to build and accomplish. I am not stuck on any specific brand, so I will be exploring a lot more when the time comes. I will def be reaching out to you when the time comes.

Nah, 18,500 miles on this 08 when I bought it 6 months ago and was owned by the AZ department of corrections. 28 service records on carfax, already spray foamed walls and ceiling with rivetted aluminum paneling (saved me a bunch of time and money), and this 3500-6.0 has some balls to it. Not really a fan of the Sprinter and Promaster designs. Eventually I will put a 5inch lift kit and a rear locker on it and perhaps a topper for more head room. My first priority/need was for work and it goes above and beyond what I needed. Thanks for the comment though....
