Thank you so much for this. I'm pretty much an "Ask TH-cam How To Do It Webmaster," having taken on the position for my Ladies' Golf League with lots of experience with Word, Excel etc. but none with graphic software.. Receiving random photos from the members to publish using the very basic version of Weebly we have has been interesting to say the least. At first I didn't even know what questions I needed to ask. I've come a long way but your video on image file formats is so helpful. I really appreciate the final section: changing the settings on my iPhone. Who knew it was that simple! Thanks again.
Happy to subscribe and learn more tips and tricks.

doing image processing with python, I save image in any format, and read them back to work with it again... there I don't feel any difference between jpg, png or tiff or whatever 🤷‍♂️ I wanted to know if there is any difference really

Hi there, thank you for your question! The choice of format depends on the intended use of the image. For example, if you want to compress multimedia files like audio, images, and video, JPEG is a good choice. If you want to display complex images, PNG is a good choice. I don't think they make much of a difference either way but always best to use the correct format for the intended purpose of the files.

Hi, I need help. I took a 3 image AEB photo in raw, then I merged them in Photoshop and ended up with a great looking 32bit photo. To upload it to Facebook I had to convert the final image to jpeg, forcing me to convert it first to 16bit by which time to photo looked totally different, not justifying the effort at all. How can I create an image for FB that resembles my original merged 32bit image?

Hi there, thank you for your question! To ensure your merged 32-bit photo resembles the original as closely as possible when uploading to Facebook, follow these steps. Save the merged photo as a high-quality JPEG with the highest possible settings while maintaining a reasonable file size. Embed either the Adobe RGB or sRGB color profile to preserve accurate colors. Resize the image to Facebook's recommended dimensions, typically a width of 2048 pixels, to avoid quality loss during Facebook's compression process. Consider using a higher compression quality to minimize further degradation. However, keep in mind that some loss of quality may still occur due to Facebook's compression algorithms. If the quality loss is significant, consider sharing the original merged 32-bit image separately on platforms that support higher bit depths.

What file format is the most future proof? Have 110Gb of flicks from life, moving and still images ?

Hi there, thank you for your question! Most file formats will be perfectly fine for storing your images but you can also look into saving them as PNG or TIFF images.
