    Interesting video, Anne! So, I work at a sign company and I often need vector art. I ask clients for a vector PDF. A lot of clients will take a raster file and simply save as a PDF. I always have trouble explaining why their file isn’t usable. It’s tough to explain something to someone who knows nothing about what you’re talking about.
    Other than saving a raster as a PDF, where do raster PDFs come from? Photoshop?

      Ugh, I feel your pain! At my prepress job, we would get that a lot - I'd ask for an Illustrator file, and they would send me a jpg saved in an Illustrator file. :/ At a different job, we were expected to recreate company's logos if they gave us a jpg...I ended up really enjoying doing that, actually. I think companies are working with external designers who don't provide native files...and they don't realize they need them! Yes, raster PDFs come from Photoshop, scans, or most likely, someone opening a JPG with Acrobat, then 'Saving As' PDF.

    Windows Meta Files used to be common for vector clip art in Microsoft software. They had the disadvantage that shapes were composed of linear segments, but that could be mitigated with high enough resolution. CDR from Corel sometimes comes up. The Adobe formats differ greatly by version. The internals of an AI file may have a PDF inside, which seems to be built upon PostScript, which is confusing.
    Adobe never got brave enough to add an alpha channel to JPEG after they created RGB and CMYK subtypes.

      Thanks for this! I actually haven't run across WMF files in 20 years as a graphic designer (I've seen that format as an option but never needed to use it). CDR does come up now and then in customer files, though. :)

    Do you offer freelance help as far as looking at AI files and answering questions / offering suggestions for improvements? I would love to have someone take a look at a file periodically--pretty basic, icons, simple layouts for decals etc. I am a self-taught Adobe user and could use some suggestions for improvement. Thank you--enjoyed your video!

      Hi, thank you!! I don't currently offer this...I just don't have time at the moment, between TH-cam, a part time job, and an Etsy shop! Are you in our Illustrator Facebook Group? We have a lot of super helpful, knowledgeable people - facebook.com/groups/adobeillustratorusershelp

    Which file format is best for sending brand deliverables to client? Which is best for print purpose ( like flyers etc) and also which is best for digital use (social media etc) ? Do we always design in cmyk when designing for print and rgb for digital use ? Please help ? 🙏🙏🙏

      I would do PDFs for all the print things, and JPG or PNG for all the digital things. :) But there are a lot more factors than just file type (resolution, color mode, etc).

    May I know what is the size for art board for create logo , and what is the pix size for image , important to get high quality logo ,
    When I zoom PNG file , I always found some less pix

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the size you want the final logo. So for web, it might be 300px wide. Make your artboard 300px wide, then export as 72 ppi PNG. When you add it to your website, NEVER make it larger than 300px, or it will look pixelated. If you zoom in to a size bigger than 300px, it will also look bad. View it at 100% to see if it looks good. I hope this helps!
