    Imagine trying to use words to describe every scene in a film, every note in a song, or every street in your town. Now imagine trying to do it using only the numbers 1 and 0. Every time you use the Internet to watch a movie, listen to music, or check directions, that’s exactly what your device is doing, using the language of binary code. José Américo N L F de Freitas explains how binary works.

      TED-Ed I noticed that the quote "there is only 10 types of people in the world the ones who understand binary and the ones who dont" the 10 was in binary witch translates to 2

      Can you explain ternary and quantum now?
      How does the processor even understand an option other than 0 or 1/yes or no?
      What is the third state?

      I was always amazed how morse code operators could translate inhumanly fast, yet that speed is probably a million , billion or trillion times slower than a modern CPU processing what is essentially still morse code (binary).

      Goes way back before computers, Creation of binary code inspired by 5,000-year-old text.

      That's partially true, the only thing that it's done with 0's and 1's is store information. Everything else is physical.

      The next layer is logic gates. These are devices (circuits) that can do stuff with the basic definitions of say numbers, and produce a single binary output. There's AND, OR, NOR, etc. Given an input 1 and input 2, they output a result. These gates are in themselves binary (or called boolean), they either allow or deny "something" to pass through.

      @12PnT12 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      > seems like I still don't get it lol
      I can try to make it clearer. This video has 2 parts:
      1. Binary - a useful way to store and process information in computers using 2 digits. Most math operations work the same as we are used to, we just need to translate from 2 to 10 digits - and by the way, it's possible to work with as many digits as you want to - 2, 3, 4, 8, 16, you name it. Binary just happens to be convenient for computers.
      2. Information - if everything is numbers (doesn't matter how many digits), how does the system differ between numbers, text, pixels and sounds? Basically, one technique is labeling things, for example TYPE - INFORMATION. If text was 0 and numbers were 1, the first digit of a number would define a type. And 0010 were either "C" or "2", the representation for "C" would be 00010 and for "2" would be 10010 (these are made up numbers, but the concept still applies).

      ASCII only contains 127 characters, mostly Western symbols. UTF-8 is a specific encoding of the Unicode character set, which has room for billions of characters. • @SomeRandomPiggo
      @SomeRandomPiggo ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still store everything as 8 bits though, it's the reason for the 8 in UTF-8. For example, an emoji may be stored as 32 bits, but thanks to Unicode magic you can just store it as "11110000100111111010010010010011"

    • @mparagames
      @mparagames 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I didn't, I already knew that, but actually, the number "10" can be equal to any number in decimal, depending on the base it was represented. For an example, "10" in hexadecimal means 16 in decimal, 20 in octal, and 10000 in binary. In that case, if "10" is in senary, it equals to 6 in decimal, that's why I separeted the people in six groups in my version of the joke.

      electricity runs the 1s & 0s machines, while oil runs the physical machines. Modern life would not work without oil, but can, and did without computers. There would not be so much demand for computers if it wasnt for oil, and everything it has made possible, which DEPENDS on oil. In other words, the modern world can run without computers (like before internet), but not oil... so 'oil' is still the root that runs ALL

    3:05 At 44thousand Hertz encoding that would be a sound amplitude sample every 20 MICRO seconds - about 2% of a millisecond. The sample rate of ~44,000 Hertz is chosen because, according to sampling theory, a sampling frequency must be at least double that of a sampled frequency if you want the recorded audio to capture said frequencies reliably. Because the human hearing range tops out at 20,000 Hertz, the sampling rate of 44,000 Hertz sampling rate means that we can juuuuust barely capture those upper frequencies reliably. The higher you make the sampling, the more data that must be used per audio file. 44kHz is a good balance for quality and size. Many audio enthusiasts will insist on a sampling rates up to 192kHz with each sample being 24 bits rather than just 16bits at 44kHz. That results in a file size 6.5 times the size!

    Something interesting I read is how easy it is to perfectly capture music. There’s this theorem, the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, which basically says if you have a continuous analogue signal (such as a sound wave) that has a frequency of N, you can perfectly capture it as a discrete binary signal with no loss of detail by just sampling at a rate of 2N. While it goes into more detail, the end result is the same, namely that any sample rate greater than twice the frequency of the analogue signal you’re trying to capture is a waste.

    TLDR: Binary code is a system of encoding data using only 0s and 1s, which is crucial for controlling devices, creating color images, digitizing sound, and remains the go-to for computing.
    1. 💻 Computers use binary code to control devices based on software instructions.
    1.1 Computers use binary code, a reliable way of storing data, to control other devices according to software instructions.
    2. 💻 Binary code is a system of encoding data using only 0s and 1s, with each digit representing a power of 2.
    2.1 Data is encoded in binary using separate rules, such as multiplying each digit by 10 raised to the value of its position.
    3. 💻 Binary number notation uses powers of 2 and standard rules to assign characters to specific groups of 8-digit binary strings.
    3.1 Binary number notation is based on powers of 2 and letters are interpreted based on standard rules like UTF-8, assigning each character to a specific group of 8-digit binary strings.
    4. 🤔 Context is crucial in determining the meaning of binary numbers or text.
    4.1 Context is necessary to determine whether you're looking at binary numbers or binary text, just as it is necessary to determine the meaning of a sound or word.
    5. 📷 Color images are created by binary sequences that determine color intensity and are transmitted to liquid crystals in the screen to create the final image.
    5.1 Color images are made of pixels represented by three binary sequences that determine color intensity, which is transmitted by a video driver program to liquid crystals in the screen to create the final image.
    6. 🎧 Sound is digitized through pulse code modulation, recording amplitudes as binary strings to determine speaker vibrations for different frequencies.
    6.1 Sound is digitized through pulse code modulation, with snapshots of amplitudes recorded as binary strings to determine the vibrations of speakers for different frequencies.
    7. 💾 Binary code is still the go-to for computing despite the existence of clever compression formats.
    7.1 Clever compression formats can reduce the amount of bits required for data storage and transmission, but for now, binary code remains the primary choice for computing.

    Imagine if there were no Indians or to be precise Aryabhata who discovered 0, the world wouldn't have survived today.

    Whoa ! love the way they started by writing the binary code 10 for 2. Also helped me in my computer science class. THANKS!!
