- In this video I show you what screwdrivers work the best on electrical projects. Based on what I have seen from people and a poll I did on the channel, most people are using a screwdriver that just does not work the best. I will go through all the different types of screwdrivers that are used, what they are good at and not so good at, and then give you my opinion on the best available screwdrivers out there. Many will have never heard of them.

Robertson screws are fantastic! I wish Phillips didn't exist, and I think standard slot screws should be outlawed!

I use the Klein combi screwdriver. I bought the combo two pack that comes with the C1 and C2 screwdriver.

Enjoy all your videos and they are most useful to me as I have 11 rentals and 77 years old and probably will never retire.
Please discuss what to do about older house that renter is over loading the circuits. Service panel has been upgraded by Electric co so panel is fine. Is there any way I can go into panel and put some of load on this breaker on another circuit. The renter is beginning to get the hang of it. She now knows that you can’t use the microwave, air fryer, space heater all at same time but what can I do to make this situation better?

I prefer to use a 1/4" cabinet tip flat driver. Specifically the Klein 605-6B. With practice, keeping the driver in the screw head is easy. It doesn't slip out of outlet screws like a PH2 would, rarely do I use phillips drive unless its a phillips only fastener.
Square bits are second pick, but you'll swap between sq1 & sq2 often meaning more pieces to keep up with.
Not really a fan of ECX type, not that it's bad, it's just very specific.
The 1/4 flat handles Ide say 95% of fasteners I come across on equipment/devices.

Great video. I personally think Milwaukee ECX is trash, The Klein hybrid fix’s the part I hate about the ECCx by adding the tip for better fitment. But I find wera’s 162 # 2 PH/S part number 006456 better than both its a NON pozi philips/ slotted screwdriver that works on more than just electrical e.g. anchor mounting hardware etc.
Side note Im not a wera fan boy. But their PH/S does work well.
I have the Wera PH/S and it won’t cam out at all on these screws.
If you don't have the square bit you can take a philips and grind the end strait flat on and get the distance the 4 blades to the size of the square bit and stop. then grind or shorten the blades of two so the legs off maybe a 1/16 shorter than the square end allowing the square end to go into the square hole and then the straight legs can serve as a regular flat screwdriver tip.
I had already ordered 2 Klein screwdrivers with combination tips, but thus far I don't have them so I haven't tried them.
does anyone know what ecx stands for? i always thought it was electrical connector/switch

The driver you use depends on the age of the device. Early devices all came with slot only type screws. Later they became slot, phillips style screws, and when I retired they were a combination that included a square drive cut in the screws. That gave you a choice on the tool you used.

ECX head screw driver for electrical terminal heads.
I do electrical frequently. I like having an arsenal of tools for on the job options. I found at Lowes a screwdriver made by Ideal part # 35-204. This has been so good I used it for a week and bought a second one. Milwaukee makes one called ECX, KLEIN's version called combination tip. I been trying to find 2 inch combination tips (bits) for my screw gun. Robertson # 1 and # 2 screwdivers and 2 " bits should be in your tool arsenal. Always best to have backup tools.
I picked up the set of Klein combo tip screwdrivers for replacing the receptacles in my house. They will not seat in the terminal screws. Dont know what the deal is, #1 robertson works great but the combo tip doesnt seat far enough in the head of the screw and just cams out.
Just as a check, are you using the correct size combination bit? I have not once had that issue at all.
@@HowToHomeDIY Yep. Unless there is a 3rd size. Set came with two, the larger is obviously the wrong size, smaller is the one I am talking about that seems as if it should work but just doesnt seat deep enough.

Your audio is on & off. Hard to follow. I suspect the tool you are referring to is the special electrical 4 prong head.
KLEIN LISTEN UP, make combination bits 2 inches long and in #1 & # 2 size
What nobody is doing (including this video) is tightening the terminal screws to the manufacturers' torque value. Tightening as much as possible is over torqueing the terminal screws.
I have never seen a connection fail due to it being really tight. I have seen plenty of failures under torqued.
Or, you could grind off the tip off a Phillips...
If the manufacturers really wanted all these screws so they never ever come loose, they'd use torx screws instead. The fact that most of the screws are a 3 way cluster#@&* of Phillips, flat, and Robertson, tells me all three options actually tighten the fastener to UL or third party specifications when properly tightened with an adequate tool by someone qualified to operate that tool.
I went to Lowe’s and looked all around till I found in electrical section bottom shelf three screwdrivers 🪛 (same size) and got one. Thanks.
On a lot of the reviews they’re getting bad reviews because you can’t replace the bits only buy a whole new driver
That's not true. You buy the screwdrivers that you can put different bits in.
Suggestion: be careful not to move the subject to or from the camera, and therefore in and out of focus.
Upset that apparently this "great product" does not have the support of Klein marketing team. The product is no longer available at Home Depot, Lowes, Grainger, Klein's own website, or anywhere else I could find. Big disappointment. Wish it wasn't so.

An intelligent person should find it ambiguous that such attention is given to terminal security here but the use of Wago (VAHGO) lever nuts offers no such security!!
Would you mind expanding on that? I'm about to do some electrical work on my house, and was planning on using Wago connectors.
I'm just a homeowner though, so I'm always happy to learn from more experienced folks.
@@thepenultimateninja5797 The quickest way for me to explain the lack of terminal security of the Wago is for you to cross your fingers and notice the contact area created between the fingers. Then, with your index fingers make a cross and observe the difference in the contact area. This indicates almost exactly the difference between a wire nut and a Wago. After 65 years as an electrician (still working) you couldn't pay me to use Wagos, and speaking of paying, that's what you'll do to get them. Of course, as a DIYer you won't mind the difference.
