    Vinegar and baking soda neutralize each other (vinegar is an acid and baking soda is a base). To dissolve mineral buildup, use vinegar alone.

    Yes! As a service plumber I love it when people plunge their clogged sinks and blow apart the plastic connections underneath the sink. Or blow fittings apart inside the wall. I get paid good money to tear open and get to those. And you still have to pay me to clear the clogged line I was summoned for in the first place So yes please advise these people to shove pressurized force through their slip joint assembled plumbing fittings. Also the people who make the replacement vanities and cabinetry will love you for it. The people watching your video aren't going to go get a bottle or do it with their hand they're going to grab the plunger which is meant for plunging against a sealed system.

    Actually when you mix baking soda with vinegar the result makes salt. It won't clean as well as using just vinegar.
    After the cleaning is completed you might use baking soda to neutralize the acid in the vinegar.

    The problem with heat tape to keep pipes from freezing are twofold: one, the tape or the thermostat controlling it will eventually fail and then your pipe freezes again and two, the heat tape should be plugged in and unplugged seasonally, you'll remember to plug it in after the pipe freezes, again. Solution: find another option such as re- routing the pipes; install shutoff and drains, allow heat to reach the pipes and finally, insulate adequately the pipe from the cold.

    • @loverlyme
      @loverlyme 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's not a problem I've ever had. I'm dying of the heat today in Sydney and it's only 27C but the humidity factor is 75%. I'm glad I never have to shovel snow, slip down a driveway or put up with frozen pipes but surely there's a happy medium of almost perfect temperatures and climate somewhere? I think some of the contestants on 'Alone' put it well when they said you have to work WITH nature instead of fighting against it.

    • @dsandy8110
      @dsandy8110 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @TH-eb5ro
      @TH-eb5ro 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with this. Having grown up in the northern hemisphere we do not use this system of heat straps, insulation only as often as it will fail eventually. The weather is getting colder much further south and people are rushing to do this but not doing their homework. Even an insulated pipe can eventually freeze. One building I saw the joints were not cut correctly, that is the area that froze first. Another had installed freeze proof spigots but not angled the valve stems, again frozen burst. Another hose bibb is on the roof, pipe goes through an unheated stairwell with no shut off option. Another the heat straps were plugged into a temperature activated thermostat at the garage wall to leave them plugged in all the time. According to the contractor who installed them is was a 'set and forget' option on the documentation which of course eventually failed. All these little mistakes can cost thousands to repair. An honest contractor will present all options and warn of the risks in each.

    18:25: you are not WELDING copper pipe and fittings, you solder them. These are two completely different processes with different heat requirements and joint "fusion". That's why the silvery stuff is called solder not welding rod.

    • @eddiec2804
      @eddiec2804 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of people keep saying this, but actually it is both. Yes soldering is the process used to connect the two separate pieces permanently(one hopes) together. However, the permanent connection of any two separate components is a weld, regardless of the process used. This includes any process using electrical bonding, chemical and thermal combination. The gluing process for PVC and all variations of such is welding, as is soldering.

    I am a retired Pipefitter / Fire Sprinkler Fitter Union.
    When you use Teflon Tape, you only need to wrap the first 3-4 threads a few wraps to hold the tape in place.
    Its a complete waist of tape, time, and money. Any tape you can see does nothing.
    Keep in mind these threads are. TAPERED *. pipe and fittings. The best thread will be one that will using a new fitting and a new thread pipe.
    By hand screw the fitting on the pipe as soon as the fitting catches the thread.... The fitting should turn by hand 2-2 1/2 turns before it stops (where you have to use a wrench). FYI ELECTRIC CONDUIT THREADS are "STRAIGHT" threads they ARE all the same geometric shape all the same dimension.
    TAPERED are changing start to finish.
    Now the bad news. Are you going to go to the hardware store and find pipe and fittings with 2-2 1/2 hand tight start.
    Not on your life, when you thread your own pipe shoot for the above.
    Good luck.

But you gotta rinse it at least once or twice after the fact, and unless that was brand new (fake rust) coke alone didn't do that if you applied it 10 times, then cleaned AND rinsed...

    I wish these idiots would stop neutralizing the vinegar with baking soda. Plain vinegar is faster. If you want to make quicker progress get the vinegar hot. And it takes no time at all if you just put the vinegar in the bag secure it to the head with a rubberband and then go to bed. When you wake to shower scrub it then. No time wasted. And then you have the bot JOSERPA spouting nonsense in every comment mentioning the stupidity of mixing the vinegar with baking soda.

    The only couple things here that can be useful 1 is the clamp spreader inside the bowl as a handle can be useful in tight spaces and the piece of wire to cut piping. Most every thing else is pretty common stuff.
    Lastly before I’d ever want to jam something into a running water line it’d first use some bread, then some other stuff after. Several of those so called tricks are potentially going to make your situation worse unless you’re a very handy with plumbing and trades in general.

      if the part you're trying to remove is plastic, and the thing it's stuck inside is metal, like their first example, you could just cut the plastic part all the way through (turning an O into a C) and pry up one of the edges.

    I'm a plumper with about 30 years in the trade. The amount of times i went to a customer to reseal these drains, after they removed them for cleaning is uncountable. You risk severe waterdamage to your (or your landlords) property if you just unsrew that drain and screw it right back.

    So vinegar - an acid, and baking soda - an alkaline, together, as a solution? That’s your trick? Depending on how much baking soda you put you either making your vinegar weak as piss, or cancelling out completely. 🤦‍♂️
    Use vinegar, smaller bag as to not waste the vinegar (because there’s simply no need) and leave overnight. But, buddy, do yourself a favour - get one of those shower heads with ceramic beads inside, your water pressure needs it, will be best shower ever. 😂
